Does anyone know of a camp to rent in Cypremort Point area? Thanks Pat 318-335-8316
Can anyone explain why I'll be sitting in my house while hunters are allowed to kill ducks in: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska? Their seasons close on Jan 28. Our west and coastal zones are closed!!
I vote for a national ban on mojo's
A group of fishermen/women have banded together to fight and reclaim our God-given resource. Freedom2fish.org is headed by Capt Tom Hilton (of Hilton's realtime navigator). This the real deal folks-different from all other organizations. It's time to end this ridiculous selfishness of the commercial fishermen and their puppet, the gulf council. Please go to freedom2fish.org and check it out. It's time we all banded together.
I'm hearing mixed reports about tiger pass. Some say it's not marked and a fella last week couldn't find any water deeper than 2 feet. Any comments and advice appreciated. Would anyone share a waypoint(s) to aid in navigating this pass?
So 'they' want to expand the Flower Garden National Marine Sanctuary, effectively stealing our God given resource. At the same time, 'they' say nothing to the fact that a floating LNG will be placed 50 miles off our coast---30 miles from the flower gardens themselves!!!! We have seen the studies. We know the millions of sea water used with the resultant killing of millions of organisms. Yet, 'they' are silent!!!
Hypocrisy at its finest.
I'm all for the FLNG, but leave our reefs alone!!!!!!!!!
Fishing deep this past weekend and landed a 25# speckled hind...but,
it was landed with an electric reel, therefore it did not qualify. could have been in the #2 spot.
Caught several other grouper as well in 400-600 fow.
There is a push to expand the flower garden marine sanctuary to include a majority of reefs off our coast. Now let me get this straight: it's ok to blow up rigs, destroying habitat and thousands of snapper and marine life, but we need to 'protect' the ecosystem by expanding the sanctuary.
Your president along with the NOAA are going to push to expand the Flower Garden National Marine Sanctuary. If successful, the sanctuary could cover 900+ square miles and include some of our favorite reefs and salt domes, to include the Sonnier and Ewing Banks, to name a few. If not stopped now, this will continue to expand, and next on the list will be the Midnight Lump (Sackett Bank). What this means to the fisherman, is that anchoring will be prohibited. They've taken your snapper. Now, they will be taking your rights to fish these areas. What's next?? Off limit areas like you see in California.
There is a site for public comment, I urge everyone, including those that don't venture offshore to post a comment.
More importantly, call your congressman now and say 'hell no!'
Time to act is now!!!!
There have been public meetings throughout the state regarding next years duck season. Anyone been and have anything to report?
Anyone have an educating reason as to why we can't have a season that extends into the first week of February?
As many may be aware there has been a valiant effort by Garret Graves to move control of red snapper from Feds to state management. Last year when it came to vote, representative John Fleming abstained from voting. That's right, he turned his back to us. Graves has a lot of national support and will be introducing a similar bill this year and has a good shot of getting it done. Keep an eye out and call your congressman!
On a side note, John Fleming is running for the U.S. Senate seat (Vitter's). Please don't support this adversary of the Louisiana sportsman. We don't need another enemy in Washington.
Charles Boustany is running for the same senate seat. He supports Graves 100%. He is a friend of the sportsmen of this state. We need allies in Washington. Boustany is in full support of changing red snapper management from the Feds to the states!
Being that we are almost at the end of 1st split, this is a great time to post. Although there may be a select few areas killing ducks, most in this state are sharing the same sentiment: no ducks. Now if I had posted on Feb 1st to say that my lake was loaded to the gills with birds, the skeptics would say, 'those are not new birds, those are the southern birds that are starting to migrate back north. There are a lot of birds because of no hunting pressure'. You can't say that this year because the fact is that there are no birds south. The fact is that the birds migrate later. Period. North Dakota is still loaded with mallards despite one degree weather. There are other all-knowing great hunters that say, 'Get off your butt and go find those birds. You have to work to get em. Etc., etc.' The fact is brother I work (and pay taxes) everyday. Hats off to you commando. The birds will arrive by Christmas.
What we need people is a commission that works for us. We don't need a commission that totally ignores public comment. We need commissioners that will serve the interests of the people. How many kids were screwed out of a hunt because the youth hunt was Oct 31? 'P I T I F U L' . This is insane. There are a select few that benefit from an early season. I say give it to them. The rest of us, I say start the season on Dec 15 and let it run to Feb 7th. Now that's serving the interest of the hard working tax payer! And for the rest of you that say 'OMG, we can't kill a duck in Feb. They are starting to pair up. Let's just shoot them out the nest, then '. I say get real and take your rose-colored tunnel vision PETA issued glasses off because the bird that maybe (a big maybe) be paired up in Feb., is the same duck some dude shot at in Stuttgart 2 weeks prior.
My next post will be Feb 1, and I'll show you black bird sky full of ducks.
By the way, I like my eggs scrambled!
Boy, my kids sure are excited that the youth duck hunt in the coastal zone is tomorrow!! Only problem, there are NO DUCKS. Come on, man. Evangeline parish in the coastal zone!! Really?? There are no ducks. There will be no ducks next week or the week after.
This commissioner sucks. He ignored public opinion and set the season as HE wants. What about the kids, bud????
Is it legal to hunt a place where rice, millet, or any other grain is growing and is subsequently flooded? If yes, then can a 'pond' be made like with a water leveler or similar device and still be hunted legally? I hear stories of guys hunting areas unaware that they are breaking the law. I hear all kinds of opinions. There is nothing in the pamphlet addressing this. Any experts?
I've been wanting to build this blind for a few years now. I finally put a pen to paper and gave it to local welder extraordinare, Gary Carpenter. This is what he created. Ready for duck season.
'LWF commissioner says that harvest data trumps public opinion when setting duck season dates'. Are you kidding me? What is the purpose of these surveys? They don't even listen to what the hunters of this state want?!! Is this some kind of dictator over there at the LWF? The seasons last year were guided by a survey. This stinks!!
The waterfowl dates are set and we that hunt north of I-10 in the 'coastal' zone are screwed. I'm very happy for the true coastal hunters, because that season works well for you. Youth hunt October 31----no ducks for kids to shoot. I look forward to 2016 when we hopefully get moved back to east zone. Was hoping the 2nd split would go till Jan 24. ???
I sincerely wish all a great season!
Anyone have any experience with an Argo. Been looking at them, but trying to get some feedback.
I have some tuna left over from the grill. anyone have a good tuna fish salad recipe?
The NOAA is seeking public comment on a draft environmental impact statement for amendment 28. What is boils down to is the gulf council is considering action to reallocate the red snapper harvest between the commercial and recreational sectors. The council is considering comm:rec allocation options ranging from the current 51:49 % to 33.3:67.7%, respectively. The NOAA must receive comments by july 20.
That's what I'm talking about. Give everyone 1/3!
