12/23/08 I got a real good christmas present when My cousin ran him straight to my lucky A$$ at five yards. 18 pellet pattern the size of a baseball on his shoulder dropped him in his tracks. Estimated the weight at 180# and he was rutted clean out. Carried 4"+ mass all the way up. Scored 115 3/8". Ide rather be lucky than good any day! He's gonna look good on the wall.

Made two hunts during the front that came through right before christmas and did pretty well. The canvasback were unbelievable. Ok numbers of ducks that week but they are mostly all gone. Not sure if its pressure, feed, or the heat. Probably all of the above. I also killed a bobcat hunting in South Carolina. Weighed 15.5 Lbs. Another good ole' Venice Trip

Went down the river friday night to make a hunt sat morning and evening. My cousin jumped some pigs in the morning but couldn't get a shot. We made a quick midday creep on a little flock of geese and killed 5. Found some good spots to sit in the evening and at 4:30 I shot the 300 lb Boar at 10 yards and at 5:00 I shot this 160lb seven point. Hes not a monster but its my biggest buck so far. Another good day in Venice.

Headed down the river this past weekend to hunt friday and saturday. Not many ducks in the area we were hunting because I didn't want to get stuck in fog with all the rain and south winds. Scouted a bunch and found some birds but no canes so we had to cut canes and build blinds. Got to hunt with my buddy Stephen who just graduated from Army Ranger school and had never been duck hunting. We ended up having two decent hunts killing 16 and 18 birds with three people. Mostly greys, pintail, and teal. Another good Venice weekend.

Went down the river thursday night to hunt friday, sat, and sunday. Fog held us down friday morning so we scouted for an evening hunt. Found some ducks and shot our limit before sunset. 18 ducks, 3 pintail, 6 greys, 7 widgeon, 2 teal. Gained a person sat mornin and killed our limit of 24 by 7:00 AM with 4 big male pintail, and the rest greys and widgeon. Lost a hunter sunday morning and we killed our limit of 18 by 6:05 AM! 1 pintail, 1 summer mallard, the rest greys and widgeon. The spot we hunted sat and sun morning was unbelieveable. Sunday after we killed our limit in fifteen minutes we watched ducks pile in for 45 minutes until we had to go. At one point we counted 40 ducks sitting in our decoys surrounded by dead birds. I'll bring a camera next time and take some video. We fished around a good bit and caught a few keeper reds but mostly rat reds. Good start to the season with some good people.

Well after 3 years of Bow hunting harder than most seeing tons of deer and nothing to show for it but two misses and a bunch of bad luck and "one step from a shot" situations I decided something needed to change. Went out and bought me a new Fred Bear Archery "Lights Out" and it seems that my luck has changed. Went to Vicksburg Oct 17-19 and I saw 19 deer in the stand 23 deer total and I stuck my first doe on a Pea Plot we planted. She was quartering to me at 16 yrds and I stuck her through the neck and into her back shoulder. She hit the deck, got up and ran 5 yards, hit it again, got up and ran about 40 yrds and nosedived into a 10' creek with 1' of water. She was 128 Lbs. Yesterday, My cousin and I decided to go out to the South Farm of Sherburne only to find out inside of the levees was closed. So we hit the outside woods that we had never hunted before. At 6:30 I heard two sticks break behind me, I got up and waited. She popped out at 90 yards and was coming straight for me. She wouldn't turn and she walked straight under my tree. She smelt where I had put my stuff down when I put my climber on the tree, and took off fifteen yards back and turned broadside to look. I was already drawn back and I stuck her right behind the shoulder. She did the old leg kick so I knew I had hit her. She ran about 90 yards and crashed. She weighed 105 Lbs. Both blood trails were thick and easy to follow and both wounds were ridiculous. The rage has my approval. Got my meat for the year. Now I'm Buck hunting. Heres a pic of a big ten we got on camera.

Went to Venice last Thursday to get in a little fishing before School, LSU and SAINTS football, and all the hunting seasons roll around. We found em' pretty quick in the morning and we were back to the dock by 9:00 am. Drank plenty of beers and kicked it with my buddies. Can't wait till duck and deer seasons. We saw two big flocks of teal on the way out. Its gonna be awesome down there as long as these dam* storms stay away. Like always, another good Venice weekend with some good people.

Headed to Venice once again to get in a little fishing. Well the redfish are sworming down there and this weekend we managed to put a dozen nice trout in the boat. All in the 2-5 pound range. My buddy cleaned 7 of them before I could get a snapshot. Second day we picked up a quick limit of reds and we were back to the dock at 7:30 and back to town by 9:30. Can't Beat that! Another hell of a Venice weekend with some good people.

Headed down the river once again to do a little much needed fishing. Haven't had much time to get down there because of all this summer school milarky. Finally got a week off so I did what I do with all my free time. We fished for four days and caught our limit of reds everyday. We had a couple of trout mixed in but that steady wind had the water pretty stirred up all over. Heres a few pictures. I'll be back down the weekend after next for some more good times with some good people.

Headed down the river this past friday to fish on saturday and sunday. Once the weather passed, we headed out around 2 and after alot of riding around we eventually found them close to dark and they were thick. I brought my girlfriend and she had done some freshwater fishing before this. Well, ide say she caught three time as many reds as everyone else and she loved every minute of it. We ended up catching about 60 on saturday and kept 30. Went to the same spot sunday morning and they were still there just a little slower and a little smaller. Forgetting the dead shrimp at the dock didnt help either. We ended up catching about 30 with 18 keepers all on artificial or cut mullet. Another good weekend with some good people down the river.

Here are a the last two hunts I made this duck season. Unlike what I have heard from many people, I had a great season. Teal season produced consistent limits if you could shoot, the first split was good in the beginning and tailed off, and the second split was ridiculous until the birds got smart and wouldn't come in unless you were in a great spot or had great weather. The key was finding where the birds wanted to be. The hunts that didnt produce for me were the ones when I woke up and went to a spot that I hunted earlier in the season. We still shot a few birds but I had to scout if I wanted to shoot limits. To me thats all the fun in hunting ducks. If I had to guess I would say we averaged about 12-15 ducks per hunt with one or two 5-10 bird hunts and a few 20-25 bird hunts. Got to make a hunt with my cousin Jason's Lab "Mac" who is getting old but proved he still got it when he made a 250 yard blind retrieve. Now he can enjoy sleeping in the bed and on the leather sofa because its about that time for him to retire, but we'll see, he might have a hunt or two left in him. We also shot a good bit of geese and as soon as we get some weather, i'm takin the plugs out and bringing the electric call for the extended conservation season. All in all, plenty of good huntin with plenty of good people. Till next season...

January 22, 2008 at 11:55pm

Here are a couple of late season hunts made down in Venice. Hunting was sometimes slow but we managed to kill a good bit of ducks every hunt. We also made a goose hunt and did pretty well. Overall its been a pretty good season for me, lots of scouting, moving aound, and plenty of good times with some good people.

January 17, 2008 at 9:15am

The hunting has been pretty decent in Venice so far this season. Enough ducks to shoot limits, but you gotta find the ducks and avoid the people. Opening morning I had 2 guys watch us hunt for an hour then blind up 200 yards from us, throw out 50-60 Dekes and 2 Mojo Mallards. He shot once and missed. He also scared all the ducks to us. Mojo Mallards don't work. Atleast not in venice. A couple of good holes I know produced pretty good so far. It should only get better as the season goes on. Ill have plenty more pictures like these.

Went out saturday and sunday Aug 11th-12th and ended up filling the box both days. Snapper, Redfish, trout, and a couple flounder each day. Caught the redfish in about 20 minutes both days. All in all, a good weekend with some good people.

August 26, 2007 at 4:25pm

Got this picture on my camera at the beginning of the season and i'm pretty sure this cat was shot by one of the members on this lease. Some people may think it looks like an owl but I'm positive its a cat, the scanned picture just isn't as clear. Pretty crazy that this deer has got no idea what creepin' above its head

Here is 100% evidence that with the assistance dredging, a diversion can work properly and build land. I grew up running boats in the area and I still do. The West bay diversion is filling in the bays with the help of dredging every day. Fishing remains the same what Venice has always been known for. If you dont believe it works go run your boat straight out of the diversion where the water used to be 4-6' deep...You will be high and dry before you can say 'Diversions don't work' Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of willow trees and prime habitat for wildlife the land is creating. Dont let the greed of a few cause our marshes to die without a fighting chance.

I run the river every day and it's not looking good. Far less birds than before the storm and whatever feed was still alive is all dead and gone...

A comment titled: Capt. Miles & Shallow South in response to a report titled: Awesome fly fishing trip (video included)

I have fished with Miles several times and He has has made me a much better fisherman. I also was a predominantly Venice fisherman. He provided me with alot of great knowlege of places like Delacroix, Reggio, Hopedale, and even Lake P. I caught my first red on sight and first red on the fly with him. Not to mention all the giant bulls he catches in the winter time. The video is only a small fraction of the sights you will see. Book a trip with Capt. Miles and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Not sure, but I think Yellow Cotton Bayside Cabins and RV Park in Boothville just below the water tower could set you up.

Figured someone like you would run thier mouth. I weigh 200 Lbs and if that pig is only 20 lbs heavier than me, you got seein problems. No biggy, run your mouth, that's all your good for.

A comment titled: 300lbs in response to a report titled: Venice Buck and Boar

Not exactly sure on the weight of the deer but that pig was pretty easily 300 lbs. I figured the deer was in the 155-170 range because it wasn't an easy drag either. 1bigdeer, you aint kidding, the picture doesnt do the pig justice. Its head was the size of a tire. Not to mention we had to stop dragging a couple times because we were gettin snorted and squeeled at by other pigs in the canes not fifteen yards away. We are investing in a damm deer cart because draggin them SOBs and being sore for days sucks.

Ive been doing pretty well down there. Six hunts 4 limits and a couple birls shy of 18 on the other two. I have had to scout more than years past, but its been good so far. Email me and I'll try to point ya in the right direction.
