A comment titled: new type of deer managment in response to a report titled: First blood of the season

Hey crod,
we practicin' a different kind of managment. We shoot 6pt or less so we can let the big ones grow and breed those good genes to the does ha ha!! I couldn't pass him, haven't killed too many with the bow yet. We are actually shootin' progressive this year so the next one has to be an 8pt, then a 10 if I am so lucky. Good luck Mon. and Tues. they are startin' to move good and the hookin's are showin' up too.

Try the rage broadheads they do the job. If you want to stay with a fixed blade, you can't beat the 100 grain G5 Montec 3 blade- it's solid and easy to re-sharpen. Hope your luck changes.

Before you buy check out the 35 whelen, flatter shooting than the 45/70 and 444, recoil friendly, and all the caliber you need to kill deer. Just my .02.

Put an arrow on it and shoot her first- between the eyes! If the string don't break when he gets out the car to check on her shoot him in the nutz! If it still doesn't break, give it a good waxing and bring all your huntin chit in the house. Donate her stuff to waste managemet and fill her closet with the huntin chit HA HA!

Meadville/Bude has a lot of Homochitto National forest around there. If your place is not to close to forest land it will be prime, BUT if it IS close to the forest get ready to see some dogs on your place when you are hunting.

A comment titled: NO WAY in response to a report titled: getting a dog

The breeder I purchased my dog from has a conditioning cd that she played so the whole litter was being conditioned to gunfire. She started it when pups were 4 weeks. When I picked my dog up from her they were working other dogs at the pond with gunfire blanks and my puppy never flinched, just picked his head up, his ears perked up and then he went back to playing. He is not gun shy at all. Check the internet to get one of these cd's and like everyone else said it's too early. Get your obedience training done, then take him. Will be better for you and your dog.

A comment titled: I did this last year!! in response to a report titled: RIFLE SCOPE

300RUM,

I went to my local shop and looked through the Swarovski, Zeiss, Meopta, and Leupold. He let me take them all outside at dusk to look through them. I was partial to the Swarovski Z6 because he had one that was less than 6months old for a steal. The guy returned it for the Z6 illuminated recticle. Still I wanted to look through them all. I wound up with the Swarovski but HANDS DOWN for the money, you will not beat the Meopta 56. It to me was almost as clear as the Swarovski and I could hardly tell a difference against the rest- hope that helps!

A comment titled: not good in cold weather in response to a report titled: Need info on Deer Stand

Get ready when it gets real cold, everytime you make a slight move in that thing it will make poping and cracking sounds that sound like a gun shot! I used one for a season that a friend wasn't using and I gave it back at the end of the year!

A comment titled: Old School but tried and proven in response to a report titled: Retriever training

Go get the book Water Dog by Jim Wolters, it was written a long time ago but is a tried and proven method. Also you can do a google search for dog training videos. It will help you gain the knowledge for obedience training and then the retriever training. YOU MUST GET THE OBEDIENCE TRAINING DONE, the dog will be easier to train then. Good luck

A comment titled: WHOA! in response to a report titled: 24ft Bay Stealth

A 98 model is a far cry from an 04 model you listed in the post. Still not bad for the price- IF there are no soft spots in floor/transom and the motor checks out (compression, condition of lower unit/oil). I would put it to the test on the test drive if I were you (run the hell out of it). Also check electronics and look at wire connections for corrosion. If it checks out $6500 is not a bad way to get into the fishing game with that size of a boat.

A comment titled: GO COMPARE!! in response to a report titled: zeiss or leopold?

Fastdog,
I have a variX 3 50mm that I really like, BUT- I was in the market for a new scope so I decided to compare. I went to the local shop where I live. He carries Zeis, Leoupold, Swarovski, Nikon and Meopta. It was dusk dark, just before he closed. He let me take 1 of each scope outside. All were either 2.5 or 3 by 12/14 by 50mm. I looked through them all and HANDS DOWN, NO QUESTION, the Swarovski was the clearest and brightest of them all. It has this built in 6x zoom and when you crank it up to the highest power in low light conditions the image barely got darker like it did in the other scopes. Another thing that sold me on it was the field of view- 63 feet at 2.5 power. It takes a little getting used to but I can even see my barrel in the scope when I look through it! The model is a Swarovski Z6 in 2.5 - 12 X 50mm. We hunters spend all this $$$ on camps, 4 wheelers, hunting club dues, food plots, etc. for the goal of killing deer and for most I assume they want a trophy. So why would you skimp on the one thing that could make the difference on weather you can see/shoot that trophy? I spent $1600 on that scope (that was a deal too) and I aint sorry I did. The only thing I could see myself being sorry for is to spend money on all that other stuff, then buy a cheap scope, and miss out on a trophy opportunity at dark 30 because of that. Then all that other money spent was for nuthin'. Good luck, let us know what you decide to buy! BTW JB is right about the meopta, the one I looked at with these other scopes was just as clear as the leuopold and Zeiss. If the Swarovski is out of your price range the Meopta may be 4 you.

Very well written Capt.J. People in this country need to finally wake up and realize the "long legged mac daddy" and our congeress are the "chain holders". If we cannot change this by way of vote in 2010 then we have no other choice but to repeat the actions of our forefathers 233 years ago!!
