Saturday morning I got down to Dularge bright and early. Launched at jugs at 5:30 and was heading out to catch some trout. A friend and I fished all over Lake Mechant and Raccourci Bayou. We picked up a few reds hear and there. We went to Caillou Lake and fished some structure over there. Picked up one speck. Then we looked at the map and decided to make a run out the rigs and Islands for the first time. It was very smooth so it was a good day for this. We pulled up to the first island and the birds where diving all around. We got in the middle of them and caught 12 good size specks. By this time the birds had moved out. We rode around the island and hit the NStar platform but could not buy a bite. This is the best day I have had in Dularge in the last month. I went back today with two friends and we ran to the island and the NStar rig but could not catch a single trout. The winds where picking up so we took the Champion bay boat to lake Mechent. Still could not catch even a red fish. Finally caught some big pull reds that we tagged and released. As always thanks for reading and any information on Dularge or fishing in general will be much appreciated!!
P.S. All the fish where caught on matrix shad. Does anyone know where to get live shrimp down there.
Thank and Happy Fishing
My friend Bailey and I left the house Saturday at 3:30, headed for Dularge. We went to Lake Mechant to look for some trout and reds. I went to a spot where I had caught some specks last weekend but this time there were none to be found. I fished some different spots all around Mechant and did not catch the first trout. Around 10:00 I told Bailey we could go look for some reds. I went to some clear ponds in Lake Mechant with lots of vegetation in the water. The reds were just all over in the ponds. The ponds were so clear I could see all the redfish tailing the top of the water. I tried sight fishing with top water, spinnerbaits, charter baits, and anything I could think of and they would not bite. We decided to just troll and fish the banks in the ponds and this was better but still a very slow bite. Only caught two keeper like that. We picked the other four keeper and about 20 sheep head fishing dead shrimp on the bottom farther north. I fished all day and did not pull out till 7:30 that afternoon and just could not understand why I could not sight fish all those reds we saw and where were the trout. As always any information would be much appreciated! Good luck and thanks!
My girlfriend and I were off of school Friday so we decided to make a trip to Dularge. I have been catching a few fish down there so she wanted to go. We got to the marina at 8:00 Friday morning and headed out to find the reds. The first cast she caught a nice red. I had a felling today was going to be one of those days to remember! We had out limit by 11:00 that morning. I thought about going to look for some trout but we were having so much fun we decided to play catch and release for the rest of the day. The main reason I did not go fish for trout is because I am not familiar with Raccourci Bay. I tried to cross it the other day but soon found out that it was very shallow and turned back around. If anyone has information on crossing the bay please let me know. All in all it was an awesome day in Dularge and cannot wait till next weekend!
Left the house this morning at 5:00 for my normal dularge trip. I started fishing at 7:30 in moving water. I picked up a few rat reds hear and there but no keepers. I moved to 3 or 4 areas and did not have much luck. I decided to try one more spot before going to try for some trout and I found the reds. I was fishing for about 20 minutes in this one spot and did not get a bit but all of a sudden I was catching fish after fish. We limited out in 30 minutes. Right after we got or limit they stopped bitting. Why is this? Why do they bit for a little while then just fall of the end of the earth? If anyone has any insight on this that would be great!
Thanks, Monty and Happy Fishing
Woke up this morning and headed down to Dularge with the bass boat for the first trip of the year. I got to jugs landing around 7:00 this morning and headed out. I went down to the bottom of Mud Lake and then ran up to Deer Bayou to start fishing. I noticed when I got to deer Bayou it was really shallow. I trolled all up and down Deer Bayou fishing moving water with a jig. I cough one trout and that was it. About three hours went by and I decided to move somewhere else. The water was so shallow I could not get my boat on plan. I have seen boats all day running up and down the bayou with not trouble. I do not know what I was doing wrong. I finally got on plan and headed to lake Merchant to fish that area. I found the same problem, I was in about a foot of water. I only caught one trout today. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I am worried about going back down there because I do not wanna tear my motor up. If anyone has any advise please let me know!
Thanks and happy fishing to everyone!

Went today Friday 6 to dularge. Started fishing the north side of Lake Merchant. Only one small red there. I fished around there for about an hour and then went to jug lake. Fished around there, mainly the north east area of the lake. Only caught two red fish. There was a lot of thick grass between the bank and the boat. Stayed hung up on grass a lot. Any suggestion on how to fish that or where to fish??? After I fished there I ran around the area for about 3 hours fishing different areas. NO LUCK AT ALL. I fished bayou chubs. The LSU colors on a 3/8oz. jig head and I though a spoon some. Please tell me what I am doing wrong and any information will help!!!
Thanks

Where do you get your live shrimp from?
Thanks for the comments guys! Both of you are very right, we cannot compete with the hours on the water that the guides have but it sure is nice to get on a few fish ever once in a while.
Good luck Y'all
I went about four weeks ago to little pigeon thinking the water would be falling but when I got there it was on a slight rise. I hit some spots but only found a few. Almost all the bass I cough were on a crank bait by just fishing down the banks. Only ended up with 3 keeper bass. The river rose to almost 7 feet then was falling all last week so made another trip sunday afternoon to little pigeon and luckily this time the water was falling. I came out with 8 keepers this time but cough a lot of smaller bass. Mostly on a plastic trick worm or crank bait. I just bought a new bay boat so I will stick to the reds and trout unit the spillway gets really good during the summer. Good luck out there is weekend and happy fishing!
Thanks for the advise guys! Cannot wait till next weekend! I am going to try for some trout next weekend so I will be heading out to lake Merchant.
Thanks, Monty
Thanks Capt.! I am looking to learn the area more and would also like to take a guided trip in dularge, I will call you in the next few day and thanks again for the information.

Thanks yall for the information. I am thinking about going this weekend sometimes. Good luck to all

I got out there around 7 that morning. Very few people on the water. I went to river pines and fished in there for a little ways and only cough one bass. It was big enough to keep. Then I went up the river a little and fished and cough one sac and one bream on crickets. Around 10 or so i went down river because the wind was picking up and i didn't feel like fighting it. Went to that new spot and cough two more bass. By this time it was 12 and i went to go motor over somewhere and my boat wouldn't start. Couldn't get it going so i headed home. Wish i cough have stayed a little longer because when it warmed up i wanted to fish for bream.
Thanks, Monty
I have fished that area a few time last spring and never did much good. I would put in at the Rigolets Sportsmans Marina. I would fish the train bridge on the bottom and all I cough were catfish. Then one time I fished interstate 10 bridge and cough one spec. I tried fishing some of the canals right by the marina and never cough anything. Most of the seamed to shallow. If you could please let me know where I can fish down that that would be great or any tips at all with baits and times of day or just anything.
Thanks, Monty
Where is that at?
I use a small pooping fly. White or yellow! I have also caught a hand full of bass with a green sinking fly! good luck!!
Launch at the edge of the hwy. 22 bridge and go underneath the bridge and take the left fork. Go down there about 1-2 miles. there will be a man made canal to your right when your get down there. fish in there. have caught lots of brem in there on a fly rod using white small flys. I know it is confusing directions but good luck.
Can two people fish in one boat in the tournament???
What lakes are your considering the main lakes??
Thanks
I fished there last thursday on a slight fall and it was hard. Went and fished from 6 am till 2pm and caught 5. Have to go up big pigeon to get to grand lake. That is where I caught my fish. One early morning on a spinner bait and the rest where either punching matts or working a worm/ fluke really slow along structure. Hard day of fishing.
