Well the bear migration has made it to Bogalusa in Washington parish. We got this guy on camera last week at our lease in Bogalusa off Hwy 10. Hopefully he just passing through.
Brought my son on his 1st official turkey hunt and we weren't in the ground blind 20 minutes and had one gobble within a hundred yards of us. I grabbed my trusty Flextone thunder yelper and let out 2 loud series of hen calls before they come out the roost. Both times he gobbled but after the second one we heard him fly down then another right after. I waited a few minutes then let a light cluck and a purr on my new Gentleman Jack Boogie Man slate call I bought from the Sportsman's show in Gonzales and he gobbled right behind me and a minute later was on my decoys with another Tom about the same size. My son got steady on the left bird as I settled in on the right bird and when I got to the count of 3 we both dropped them in their tracks. Best hunt I had in a long time and now my son is hooked forever. I told him that was a once in a life time hunt that it is usually never this easy to bring them in like that and he would more than likely go along time before he ever gets that opportunity again. My Tom had a 91/2' beard with around 3/4 spurs and was a whopping 23 pounds and my sons had a 9' beard with only 1- 1/2 spur and weighed in at 20 pounds.
I left my camp at 5:00 AM and dropped my daughter off at my box stand and continued to a lock on I have at the far back corner of a clear cut. I had no movement all morning and got a text from my daughter she was ready to go so I started to pack my gear and as I was lowering my back pack to the ground I heard a noise and looked up and this buck was running off through the clear cut. He had been bedded the whole time 25 yards in front of me and I didn't even know he was there. I dropped my pack and grabbed my rifle and followed him in the scope and when he slowed down I shot. He slumped over and turn broadside walking slow so I chambered another round and shot again. I had been watching this deer from a spike at 1.5 years old and this is the buck he turned into 3.5 years later. Let EM go and watch EM grow!!!
I spent this Thanksgiving weekend with my daughter at my lease in Bogalusa. Even with the full moon woes my first day in the stand I saw 6 does and let them all walk knowing I had a big buck in the area. I was hoping to get my daughter on him but luck would have it he appeared for me at 10:00AM Saturday morning. I dropped my daughter off at my box blind and continued a few hundred yards away to my lock on over looking a crossing in the 2 year old clear cut I am hunting in. I had no movement at all that morning and at 10:00 AM my daughter was ready to go having not seen anything either. I packed up my gear and started to lower my back pack to the ground and hear a snap. I look up and this buck had been bedded 20yds from me the whole time and we never knew either one of us was there, I dropped my back pack grabbed my rifle and as he ran off through the clear cut he got about 120yds out and I hit him in the back leg. he stopped and turned broad side and I hit him again or so I thought. After 2 hours of tracking NO LUCK so we backed out. I started searching the internet on my phone for a blood hound and found Mr. Kenny Martin who lives a short drive away in Talisheek. He is a member of the Louisiana Blood Trackers. He came out with his trusty tracking companion and within an hour I was holding onto my trophy a 141', 160 pound 4.5 year old 11 point with a double main beam on the right side. My hats off the Kenny and his dog. My daughter wound up finishing the weekend off with 2 big sows. 1 was 160lbs and the other 140.
Went out to the lease this past weekend to work on food plots and stands and wound up helping one of my members set a trap to try and fix an ongoing hog problem. We baited it up Saturday evening and came back in Sunday morning and caught 5. 200lb. black and white boar with 4 sows. 22long behind the ear and 5 less to worry about. Brining home the bacon !!!
I brought my daughter on our annual Thanksgiving 3 day hunt at our lease and she made an AWESOME 220yd shot on this 130lb doe with her 7mm-08 at 7:14AM Sunday morning. The weather was cold and everything had a heavy frost and as soon as the sun came up enough to melt the frost the deer came out on the edge of a new clear cut on our property to warm up and she overcame the cold temps and the adrenalin rush and put the smack down on her. Very proud of her on such a difficult shot for a 15 year old. The deer went 40yds after the shot and was done. Congrats again Hailey!!!!!
Sitting the stand waiting for an 8 point I have on camera and this guy decided to show up instead so I let the Grim Reaper do it's job. Meat for the freezer. 145lb. Boar.
Took advantage of the cold weather this past weekend and my right as a disabled veteran and got on this 8' beard with 1 1/4' spurs. I had 3 gobbling at day break and I had them talking to after 8:00 AM then they shut up. Finally a bit after 9:00 Am a passing by crow got him to gobble and it was back on. I was able to get within about 80 yards of him and set up a few decoys and between using the slate to purr and my mouth call kept him interested enough to come in and investigate. Big mistake on his part. 1 down and 1 to go.
Went to my lease this weekend and caught this guy Sunday evening hanging in my food plot with 3 does. He isn't even in rut yet but was hanging with his girls.
We went on our yearly weekly trip to our favorite public land location and ended up with an outstanding week. 5 guys, 5 days, 3-8 points and a 6 point. Can't wait til next years trip now.
Brought my baby girl to the lease this weekend for the youth hunt and she finally got her first kill. What a rush. Beat any deer I ever killed. Congratulations Hailey.
Went on a trip to North Carolina last weekend and decided to put the rage aside and try the schwackers out and the first morning busted this 4-pt. sneaking around. Quartering away shot was a little more of an angle that he looked like but did the job none the less.
Finally we now have a new pro bow shop on the westbank of new orleans. The name is extreme archery and it is located of Spencer st. behind Don Bohn Ford of lapalco. In door range and tournaments on Wednesday nights. They carry everything you need and are currently selling Hoyt, Bear and Missions (by mathews) and should hopefully be carrying Mathews soon.
Rage does it again.
a few pictures from this past weekend
checked cameras this weekend and cannot wait to see these guys during the day
I had my first bow kill with my new bow. I purchased the bowtech 82nd airborn which is shooting 340 f.p.s. and tipped the arrows with RAGE 2 blade MECHANICAL broadheads and look at the damage they did on this 150lb. 7- point. This is the entry hole not the exit. AWESOME !!!!!!
Went out Saturday to find 3-4 ft. seas but the TUNA were on allday. Best trip I have been on in years and will go again next year.Hats off to our guide for putting us on the yellowfin. 15 yellow , 2 blacks and 1 dolphin.
Someone put a post on this site a week or so ago about a bigfoot found in Georgia and they were awaiting test results and DNA results. Well it is an official HOAX. DNA shows opossum and human DNA and a bigfoot specialist paid the men for their find and discovered when they received the body that it was a rubber body and now they cannot find the two men anywhere to prosecute them and get their money back. The things people beleive and pay in this country. FUNNY!!!
Thinking of buying a new bow and leaning towards a bowtec, for all you bowtec hunters out there what is the difference between the bowtec diamond and the bowtec other than a few hundred dollars.
