My 8 yr. old nephew Kyle killed his first deer on Nov.29 near Percy Creek MS. The 7 point came down the ridge and stopped offering a broad side shot and Kyle smoked him with his .243 at about 60 yards.

I shot this little feller last sunday evening,he came out behind 12 does & fawns and after 2 or 3 minutes I couldn't stand it anymore... "BAM"...droped him in his tracks with a neck/shoulder shot at 40yrds with my 7mag 150 grain Core Loc....I'm getting reports from that area of good buck movement....the rut should peak around Jan.2nd in Wilkinson county...Good luck to all!!

How can you tell if a trolling motor is 12 or 24 volts??, it's a motor guide bow mount handle control, it has 2 wires feeding it,black + red. there's a sticker on the motor that says "hyper drive", I'm thinking it's 12 volts but just not sure and don't want to burn it up!!

May 03, 2007 at 10:13pm

I will soon be in the market for a new trolling motor for a 18' alum bass boat,it came with a MotorGuide 50 lb.thrust/24 volt.My old MotorGuide is 11 years old and wore out!!. I fish fresh and salt water do I need a salt water series? are they worth the extra cost? also I noticed you can't buy a 24 volt anymore in the 50 lb. range, are the 12 volts just as strong now? I would think that the 12 volt will drain the batteries faster then the 24 volt.
I'm looking at the MotorGuide Greatwhite bow mount and the MinnKota Riptide SE bow mount, both are about 55lbs. thrust/12 volt and about the same price( $450),I could save quite a bit going with a fresh water series!Witch one should I buy??

I'm new here so I don't know if this was a topic before? I want to know what yall think about Baiting? I'm hunting in MS now and can't legally bait deer but from what i've seen lots of hunters do it anyway!. I see lots of pic. with deer eating from bait piles at NIGHT but do yall kill Bucks eating from them??, I tried corn in LA. years ago with no luck, all that I saw during daylight was a few does and fawns. Is it Ethical to bait?, Is it fair chase? Personaly I choose not to bait and I hope MS never makes it legal! but to each his own!....Pic. of my 2 best bucks(130 class)

A comment titled: Here we go again in response to a report titled: Dog Hunters Gone Wild

I respect the rights of dog hunters BUT land/lease owners have the right to not have people or DOGS trespassing on their land,if you're still or stand hunting on public land that the law allows dog hunting on then deal with it or find a new place that's still hunting only. With that being said it is NOT the responsibility of the DOG to know where he's at OR TO READ POSTED SIGNS!! If you can't keep your dogs off privite land you shouldn't drop the tailgate. The law needs to change to include very stiff fines(thousands) for repete offenders.

How much are you willing to spend? Reconyx is the best but they're $450 + I like the Bushnell Trophy Cams for $200 , I've owned lots of cheaper cams and they don't last.....check out the reviews on Chasing Game.Com

A comment titled: Best? in response to a report titled: What's the best deer camera?

Reconyx is without a doubt the best all around camera but you're gonna pay dearly! The best in the $200-300 range would be the Bushnell Trophycam.

A comment titled: I recon common sense is uncommon these days in response to a report titled: Rice Bran & Corn

Hunt r, are you a politician? if not you missed your calling! you've avoided the truth & facts and changed the subject better than EWE could have.
The TRUTH is yes that male dog can smell a female in heat and locate her as can a stud horse find a mare by smell and every mammal I can think of including DEER! THAT IS FACT!! Many animals also use visual cues and sound that is also fact.
To claim a buck can't locate a doe in heat using scent is INSANE! They use sight, scent & sound to locate does in heat!

I'm done!

A comment titled: Common Sense in response to a report titled: Rice Bran & Corn

Ok, lets try this have a male dog in your fenced yard and your neighbor that's 1/4 mile away has a female dog in heat in his fenced yard and you're down wind, now do any of you actually think that your male dog can't smell that bitch in heat? Hell most of us have had to go find our male dogs after they jumped or tunneled under the fence to get to her! Well it works the same with deer!!

A comment titled: Role Dat & Huntr in response to a report titled: Rice Bran & Corn

Role Dat, I believe the answer to your question is yes if you're looking to kill 'good' deer, if you're meat hunting than you should do ok with the bait. To me less is more when hunting bucks, less sound, less scent, less unnatural sights(big box stands & lights),less corn/bran piles in the woods. I usually walk to my stands, sometimes we use electric carts but they make too much noise sloshing through the mud for me so I will stop well short of my stands and walk. I don't use flash lights unless it's pitch black. You might try fertilizing any oak trees ,briar patches etc. around your stand sites. I prefer to hunt from loc ons and not hunt the same location every day. It doesn't take a buck many times of looking at box stands and smelling human scent to put 2&2 together and start avoiding those areas.
I will agree with most of what you've said about the visual clues does give when in heat, but over my 30 yrs. of deer hunting I have heard/seen bucks chasing does in the WOODS at NIGHT several times, bucks can and most often do find their does by smell and they will run the hell out of them in the pitch dark using sight, scent&sound!! so I will have to respectly disagree. In 'my' 30 years of deer hunting I have never heard a BUCK ROAR or GRUNT SNORT WHEEZ but i'm not about to say it don't happen just because 'I' haven't seen or heard it.
