Bought some matrix shad today. me and a buddy decided to do some pond fishing to give them a try. Hit a local pond for about an hour in rain. Caught 4 missed about 4 more.

I've only been there a few times but sunset point in mandeville is a really nice pier to fish from. It's off the lake front. It has lights and the whole 9 yards.

Hey backlash. A great place for live bait would be bayou adventure in Lacombe. Look them up on face book or the web. Great people and they have all you need. Another place for live bait is the route 22 gas station right in Madisonville. It would benefit to have at least a kayak, canoe, or even a small john boat to get to some good areas. Lake road in Lacombe at certain times of the year can be good from what I hear both fresh and saltwater fish. Also if you have any relatives or friends that live in a subdivision and there is a neighborhood pond in there don't pass it up these ponds might not look like much but you'd be surprised with the quantity and quality of bass. Good luck man

thanks guys for all the comments and info. Ive caught plenty of trout in the lake with my rods but had a decent amount get off because my rods are much stiffer but I've narrowed down my search from all the help and I'm looking at some options for a rod thats 6'6 to 7' medium action with a moderate fast or fast taper. The rods I have as of now handle reds drum sheephead and larger fish great. Just wanted that one setup that was more 'ideal' when I would be strictly targeting the trout.

thanks guys for all your info. I will look at my options. Thats what I'm going for a more sensitive rod but with some good backbone for jigging the bridges with that sensitive bite. Thanks again vermont, your info was very helpful

mostly curados, line 12-15lb fluorocarbon, 1/4 up to 1/2 ounce jig heads, same size weights for carolina riggging also. All the basics for lake p. My rods now are in the 7ft medium heavy action size. They work good but just feel there a little stiff for trout fishing.. just started fishing lake p and am dedicated from here on. Wanting to find a rod with good sensitivity but still have that strong back bone for jigging the bridges etc. thanks guys

I'm looking at a few options. I have a matthews drenalin and its about 33' axle to axle. I have a small ameristep doghouse blind and it's really to small. I recently started checking out a NWR close to my area and its a great place just real thick and the section I'm looking to hunt theres not many trees for a climber. The ameristep brickhouse looks pretty nice but the penthouse has plenty of room and some nice features also. Will have to way out the options. There's only a 40 or so dollar difference and for the size of the penthouse it may be worth spending a little more.
