Went to Bayou Dularge yesterday. Had 21 trout, 8 reds, and 10 drum. Caught the trout North side of Sister lake, I hit all the points with plastics. Had to weed through 50 little ones to get that. At the crack of dawn there were birds diving all across the lake, and boats in every pile of them. When they stop biting around ten o clock and the shooting stopped, I hit the ponds with a spoon. Tide was high and the reds were in there. When we had enough of that I went to bayou Sevin with some cracked crab and caught the drum but they were to big to keep. I didn't see as many ducks as I would have hoped. Maybe 300 and that pushing it. All in all it turned out to be a great day. Kids stayed hooked up the whole time and I had more than I really wanted to clean. Had about the same result last weekend. Till next time, good and safe trips to all......
Went Friday evening to the Mud Lake Bayou Dufrene area to throw a spoon in the grass beds. Had one bite and it was a bass, I missed it. Saturday morning I headed out to Big Bayou Dularge. I fished the drains and wound up with the opposite of my usual problem of the reds being to small. This time I had one 20', and the other four were over 27' one of those being around 36', I kept just the 20'. The crazy thing is I caught all of them shallow on a popping cork and a plastic grub. Quite around 1 pm. Could not take the heat anymore standing on aluminum. Wound up with 1 red and 10 keeper spec's out of about 25. Sunday I hit all the points in Sister Lake throwing a popping cork, I'm getting hooked on that thing. Wound up with 11 more keeper specks out of about 30, once again retired from the heat around 1 pm. Monday I changed gears and brought the crab nets to Pirouge Canal area. Did real good with that, 80 crabs by 1 pm using hard heads for bait. I was a hero to all the girls for the 4th of July. I spent my life buying fancy rides and nice clothes to get dates. Who knew all needed was a bushel of crabs and a boiling pot.... Well till next time.
Went to Dularge yesterday. Caught at least 60 trout, not a one made the box, all shorts. Had two drum that went 25 pounds each. No red's. All fish caught around East Bay Junop on plastics and cracked crab. Girls had a great time. I'm having trouble finding anything worth wild on the inside right now. I guess the bright side is that I didn't have a lot to clean up when I got home. Maybe next time....
Went to DuLarge last weekend. Caught 8 reds and 2 bass north side of Sister Lake.
It's not hard to get to. Launch at Jug Heads, go south thru the locks, keep going south until you hit Grand Pass. If you look right that's Lake Mechant and if you look left that is Sister Lake. As far as where to go, I don't know August is far off. I'm not a pro down there but to me there were more fish closer to the coast line than farther north and that will be the case until it start's to cool off. They are catching the bigger speck's somewhere offshore where I do not venture on account my boat is small. If the wind is not bad just start hitting all the points and islands in the lake, mouths of the bayous and such. You may not have a lot of keepers, but the action will be fun. Good luck fishing.
West side of bayou grand caillou just south of Dulac. It's a pipe line canal.
I have also seen them at G and F Sporting Goods in Raceland.
