Do any of the bait shops in Leeville carry live shrimp or only cacahoes? I was planning to hit Lake Raccourci tomorrow morning and check it out. This will be my first time in the area.

Does anyone use a Power Pole Wave Pak? I have a 10' PP Blade and was wondering if it would be a good investment to add the wave pak. I just wanted to get some feedback from those who have it installed. Thanks.

I am planning on taking my dad and 8 year old out fishing this Saturday and Monday(just my dad). I want to hit the trestles and Bayou Bienvenue/ICW area. I haven't really fished that area in a long time, but want to give it a shot and start learning the area. I have been reading the reports and watching the videos by dockside and figure with the area being so close that I might as well put my time in and start learning it. I would really like to check out dockside for advice and pick up some live shrimp. I also purchased about $50 of Matrix lures recently. So everything is pointing in my favor to fish like the

My question is would it make sense putting in at dockside or should I look to put in elsewhere given the area. I have only fished out of Campos a few times and that would be quite a run to the area I want to go. Is it worth hitting the trestles or should I stick to the Bayou Bienvenue /ICW area. Thanks

Has anyone had any experience buying a boat from out of state? I have agreed to buy a boat on consignment in FL. The boat is actual registered in TN where they do not require you to have a title for the trailer. The trailer has no VIN or it isn't legible. The owner supposedly has some paperwork with the VIN or Serial Number on it. Is this normal? Has anyone ever ran into this situation? I am worried about when I need to get insurance on it or sell it in the future. I don't want to have to jump through a lot of hoops here in Louisiana.

How do you determine the NADA value of a used boat? I am looking to buy a new boat and started looking at the NADA values, but it seems like it isn't taking into consideration the size and brand of the outboard. Any suggestions?

I just received a renewal notice for my boat insurance through Progressive. I am questioning if I really need to carry boat insurance. I have a paid in full 2001 18 foot Xpress bass boat with a 2 stroke Yamaha 115 on the back. It does give me that peace of mind that I am covered if anything was to happen, but I have had the boat and insurance for two years and nothing bad has happened yet. What are your thoughts?

I am considering making a trip this Saturday to GI or Fourchon and I was wondering if the specks have started showing up on the beaches or around the rock jetties. What has been the bait of choice? Thanks in advance.

Has anyone been down to Golden Meadow lately? I am thinking about taking a trip this Saturday and wanted to know how people have been doing down there. What are the trout and reds hitting on?

January 31, 2008 at 1:47pm

What started out as a great day fishing turned into a bad day when I got home to Mandeville only to find out that I left my cajun anchor, net and seat posts at the carwash in Golden Meadow. So if you are looking for a free cajun anchor, net and seat posts it might still be waiting at the carwash in Golden Meadow (the one in front of the laundromat).

We had a great day down in Golden Meadow. We caught 32 specks and 2 reds plus pleanty of throw backs of each. We caught the specks on a purple H&H cacahoe(sp?) and the reds were caught on smoke colored split tail rigged with a spinner.

January 14, 2008 at 10:14pm

Does anyone have any reports out of Golden Meadow? What are the fish biting on? Any hot spots? I am heading there Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I am going to be fishing Catfish Lake (wind permitting) and the surrounding canals. May take a trip to the Sulpher Mine if there are better reports there. Thanks in advance.

I made a late trip yesterday to BSM. I put in the water around 2 PM and headed to Stump Lagoon. This was my first time in the area, so I was taking it slow. I finally made it to Stump and fished awhile in the opening. Just as I was leaving another boat pulled up and we began to talk about the area. He showed my the 5 nice reds and trout he caught. He was telling me where to go, but I didn't feel comfortable going to deep in the marsh because I didn't know the area and it was real shallow. After talking for awhile he took me back to one of his honey holes and he caught a few more trout and I picked up these two nick black drum and redfish. He even gave me some of his market shrimp to tip my bait. It was getting dark so we headed back. I appreciate this guy not only telling me where to go, but actually showing me where to go and shring some of his bait. It is people like this that make Louisiana sportsmen so great. My son loved holding the fish for the picture. I can't wait until he is old enough to go fishing with me.

Anyone have the number for Boudreaux's Condeaux in Golden Meadow? I have been searching the net without any luck. Also, does anyone know how much the room rate is?

January 04, 2008 at 1:25pm

Is there a place to buy the fishing maps from standard mapping online? Their website does not give much information and it seems that Academy does is always out of maps for the Rigolets and Golden Meadow area.

December 26, 2007 at 4:13pm

I am heading to Shell Beach this weekend and wanted to know which live bait is working best over there. Live shrimp or croakers? Carolina or under a popping cork? We are planning to launch at Campo's, do they usually have live shrimp and croakers available? Any info is appreciated.

August 08, 2007 at 11:46am

Where is the best place to launch at Lake Verret? I will be coming from Baton Rouge.

July 01, 2007 at 9:36pm

I went fishing for the first time down in Dulac with some family friends from Houma. We ended the day with 6 reds (17-18 in.). Most of the reds were caught in Bayou Sale using dead shrimp under a cork. I think if we went to this bayou first thing in the morning, we would have done much better. The toughest part was fighting through all of the creabs and catfish.

July 01, 2007 at 7:02pm

I am bringing a family friend and her son fishing tomorrow in Dulac. They live in Houma and they mentioned that might be the closest place to launch (I believe it is at Tirvs boat launch). I normally fish golden meadow, fourchon and GI, so I am not familiar with this area.

Any way, I was looking for some tips on bait to use and maybe general areas to fish (not exact places or honey holes). I was looking on Google maps and it looks like lake boudreaux is close to where we are putting in. I am guessing this lake would hold some trout and redfish.

June 30, 2007 at 12:21pm

How much has everyone been paying for live shrimp? Have most places been running out early in the morning?

June 05, 2007 at 8:33am

I was curious if anyone knew where I could find crab drop nets rigged with a buoy? I know I could probably make one myself, but I was looking to buy it rigged.

I was fishing Bayou Lacombe a few weeks ago and saw a boat out there that had approximately 15 crab drop nets with buoys connected to the rope on the surface. It seemed very efficient to crab from a boat using this setup.

I am looking to fish Seabrook one afternoon this week. I was wondering what is the best way to fish that area. From what i can see boats anchoralong the canal. Do you mainly fish the bottom? Do you have more luck with marlet shrimp or plastics? Any info is apprciated.

We fished the edges of Lake Raccourci and pulled in a bunch of 11-11.5' trout on Saturday. Only kept 13 trout over 12'. It was my second time fishing the area and I am trying to learn my way around. Do you find using live cacahoes work better than live shrimp in the area?

Is the Between the Banks line a recording or do you actually talk to Capt. Bob? I am heading down there again this weekend with my 9yr old and may give him a call for some advice on the area.

Like everyone else said. Back out of the deal. That boat will end causing more issues and heartache than you will want to deal with.

A comment titled: Boat Insurance in response to a report titled: Boat Insurance - Is it necessary???

I believe I have replacement cost for my boat and motor along with a few other things including liability and I am paying $300 a year. It sounds like that is a bit higher than what other people are paying with nicer boats.

I agree the peace of mind is worth every penny.

A comment titled: A lot of area to cover in response to a report titled: fishing

Grand Isle to the sulfur mines is a lot of area to cover. I have been fishing the catfish lake area the past two months and have done really well. I went this past weekend and although I did not catch many fish, the ones I did catch where quality fish. I ended the day with 15 trout and 3 reds. Most of the fish were caught in the lake using a smoke colored split tail with a red jig head. As always look for clear moving water.

If you are going to be fishing the sulfur mines or catfish lake you might want to consider staying at boudreaux's condeauxs. I recommend getting boiled crawfish from the back. It was the best crawfish I ever had. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I have only been back there one time and I followed a guy to the far left of stump lagoon. He just mentioned that is was shallow and that if we were not on a plane we would hit bottom. I did not realize there were actual stumps in there. We caught plenty of reds and specks in his honey hole, but it would have sucked if I lost my lower unit. I think I will be using my trolling motor in the future.

Remford, I have only fished stump lagoon once, but I was curious why you are recommending that we stay away from there. I know it is shallow, but one guy told me to get on a plane when you first enter the lagoon and stay on a plane until you get to your spot. Is there anything else I should watch for?

Nice Catch! I am not doubting Pot Shooter and his 2 friends caught these fish in 2 days, but could they get in trouble with LDWF if an agent witnessed them in possession of their 2 day limit? I do this quite often myself and was always curious if I could get in trouble for possessing uncleaned fish over my daily limit. It is always easier to clean the fish at one time rather than making a mess twice. Thanks

Just got back from Academy with $111 less in my pocket. I replaced everything that was left at the carwash. What an expensive lesson. Oh well, I still had a good time fishing.

January 16, 2008 at 2:18pm

Which launch do you use (public or behind the crab shack)? We use the one behind the crab shack. Were you just using a cork with market shrimp on it?

Most of my trout are caught in catfish lake. I try to stick around in the NE part of the lake where you see the white pvc pipes togther. We also caught trout in the pipeline canal just trolling up and down. Smoke colored sparkle bettle always works best in this area although I was catching nice trout on my last trip using Berkley Gulp shrimp (nuclear chicken) under a cork.

Thanks for the input. I am starting to wonder if we shouldn't head down to the sound. I have a 18' 5" bass boat with a 115hp on the back (30 gallon tank). Is it too far of a run from Campo's in my boat to the sound?
