Went out fishing Friday 10/31/14 out of Hopedale. It was shaping up to be a real bad day.First I had motor trouble my boat would only go 1 speed slow. This meant I would have to stay close inside so I went to the Biloxi marsh. After moving around and feeding numerous live shrimp to needlefish I started throwing a matrix shad shrimp creole 18 inches under a cork and caught 23 specks and 1 red and no more needle fish. The wind got wicked so I called it a day. Everything worked out in the end.

On 6/13/13 I played hooky from work. My wife and I launched at the wonderful Breton Sound Marina. We took the trip down the Spoil Canal to the M.R.G.O. rocks for the first time. Wow what a trip we had. We dropped anchor once and did not move the boat until we headed in for the day. We didn't limit out but we left them biting. Live shrimp 3ft under a cork worked great. After we ran out of live shrimp I used Berkley Gulp New Penny chartreuse tail on jig head under cork and Matrix Shad Tiger Bait under cork. The live shrimp did work better but what can you do. The speckled trout ran 15 to 17 consistently and they ran in schools every 10-20 mins a school would pass. We had a blast and hope others find this helpful. One more thing, I would like to say thanks to Louisiana Sportsman for this site and their magazine. Both are awesome and should be every sportsman Bible.

Army Corps of Engineers is on Leake Ave. I believe. If so it's a straight drive down Leake Ave. to River Rd which goes directly to Jefferson and or Harahan. With only a set of Rail Road tracks and 2 red lights I live in Jefferson and find many fishing locations convenient. I fish in Hopedale,Delacroix,Shellbeach and even Myrtle Grove. Good luck!

A comment titled: ROCKS in response to a report titled: Specks in hopedale

Colt, I would go to the Rocks. If you are familiar with getting there it should payoff. It's about 16 miles down the Spoil canal from Breton Sound Marina but so worth it. I went on 5/23/14 I didn't limit out but I caught nice trout including 1 20 inches long. On your way back to launch there are numerous great spots to fish for Reds. Don't forget bug spray the sand flies are terrible out there. Good luck

A comment titled: Too much money on costal anglers in response to a report titled: Inceased Salt Water License Fee

Since Louisiana makes saltwater fishermen buy a freshwater license before you can buy a saltwater license, I believe it would only be fair to charge an increase on the freshwater side. Since that would affect everyone in the state who fishes the charge could be less if it's needed at all. Just sayin!

Hey New2salt,
I had goodluck in Bay Five last year and in speaking to a friend with a camp down there here they are back again. Go strait down Wilkerson canal to the 1st possible entrance to Lake 5 turn right go till canal opens up to Lake 5 and fish the point on the left at Lake 5. I put my boat on bank and fished out. Good tidal flow in this area. There is also a huge drop off at the mouth of Bayou McCutchen at Lake Laurier. This is another spot to try. Hope this is helpful.

A comment titled: Lowrance HDS 5 Gen 2 in response to a report titled: GPS Question

The Lowrance HDS 5 Gen 2 with Lake Insight is what I just bought and it came with the transducer. The reason I got the Lowrance HDS model is it can use the Standard Mapping E-card and turn your GPS screen into a copy of the fishing map we are all so familiar with. Lowrance is the only brand that can use the Standard Mapping e-card and only on the HDS models and I believe the Elite-7. Go to youtube and search (lowrance hds e-card standard mapping)you will see some videos and likely be impressed. I got my Lowrance HDS 5 Gen on for $635.00 with free shipping. Make sure you get the Gen 2. I hope this was helpful. Goodluck !

A comment titled: ONLY IF FINANCED in response to a report titled: Boat Registration Question

I could be wrong but I believe a title only is needed if financed. When I bought my boat last year I asked by phone about title and was told only when financed is this needed. However my boat is a 1975 model. You will definitely need a notarized bill of sale signed by the seller for boat and trailer. The bill of sale can be downloaded from LDWF web site and it ask all the right questions. Good luck!

A comment titled: Democrats own this! in response to a report titled: King Obama affordable health care

Just a couple weeks ago the Republicans were terrorist, communist, evil and holding the country hostage etc. Now, the Democrats who crammed this bad law down Americans throat are saying we should delay Obamacare implementation until the bugs are worked out. Anyone with a brain can see its because they are up for election now and people will wake up when they go to get their Obamacare and see the price . Most Obama followers think is free. By the way insurance subsidies are going to be taxable. Ask the IRS.
Louisiana already had free health care at Charity hospital. They could have put a Charity hospital in every major city cheaper than Obamacare. Redistribution of wealth is evil. A very special thanks to Mary Landrieu and Cedric Richmond for their ignorance. So when you vote, remember the politicians who screwed the working people to give to the lazy.

Testify, I understand its how Captains make their livings and I too would protect my financial interest as well. Bigloedude you make a valid point such as what color plastic or how deep etc. I also agree that these sites have become free advertising for businesses like Seatow.

Thank you for the direction. Most people are too tight lipped if you ask me. This web site could be so much more for the weekend fisherman if people would share a little more. You and I have shared info before. Remember, Lake of Two Trees for Reds. Thanks again.

Derek where did you catch the specks? My freezer is empty. When it comes to the reds I went fishing 8/9/13 in Hopedale and didn't catch any reds either but I was told yesterday where to go. I was told to the North end of Lake of Two Trees on marsh shoreline is full of reds. Hope this helps.

A comment titled: Any luck? in response to a report titled: Black bay help.

Hey Derek700 did you go to Black Bay?We had spoke before and I see you went to the MRGO rocks via the Spoil canal. Did you have any luck when you went? I have not been fishing last few weeks but from what I've read lately the rocks cooled off and Black Bay is on fire now. If you do go please let me know your path. I got a 15 ft flat with 25 johnson so the rocks was about a 50 min run. Just getting to the edge of Black Bay may be an hour. I 've not gone this way since I was a kid and we went through Delacroix. In a small mboat I think either Hopedale launch or a Point A La Hache launch nis the best bet. PLease keep me informed thanks cooper

A comment titled: Go east young man. in response to a report titled: Hopedale to M.R.G.O. rocks

Hi Derek, My first trip to Hopedale was this one. I went and got a Fast Fold Standard Mapping map #304 Aerial map of Shellbeach. I used my smartphones GPS and Google maps app and just went for it. The Spoil Canal literally runs into the Breton Sound Marina.
I have a 15ft flat with a 25 Johnson with a top speed of 24mph loaded with me and spouse, ice, poles etc. So I'm not setting any records getting there as you can imagine. Googles App MY TRACKS showed me at 16.9 miles oneway. It took about 40-50 mins and lookout for the boats behind you. Lots of boats and I went on a Thursday. I got off course on way back and hit shallow water but was able to backtrack and get home. The whole trip to the rocks looks like great red fish action. No joke i'm dead serious. Good luck if you go. I would imagine a windy day would suck at the rocks because there is little protection but the marsh on the way out would still be calling me if you what I mean. DEREK go do this. I'm going Friday 6/21/13 weather permitting. I'll see you there.

A comment titled: myrtle grove trout in response to a report titled: Fishing Help Myrtle Grove Area

Hey jleman2, I fished oaks bayou today and it was windy. I caught specks along the southern shoreline near the wilkinson canal. I did not limit out but I bet I would have if I din't run out of live shrimp. Be prepared to sift through a few undersized ones but I caught keepers too. My wife out fished me as I kept baiting her hook and unhooking her catch. It was great fun and I plan to go back next Friday. I hope this helps. Goodluck,
