I bought a Hobie tandem kayak and had the pleasure of taking my son on our first trip two weekends ago out of Bobby Lynn's. For our first trip I think we did great! We caught over 150 fish and brought back 30 trout with 6 red's. My son is hooked! The mirro drive worked like a charm for us as we went out about 3 miles with no problems.

I've ordered a kayak for my 12 yr old son and I. A Hobie Mirage Oasis Tendem. I've never kayaked out of Bridgeside and was wondering if we had to go out more than a mile or two to catch trout or reds. Any help on where a couple of amateurs could go safely would be appreciated.

Thanks

I bought my 90 lb wife a 9mm Springfield XMD. The first time she shot it (which was only the second time she ever shot a pistol), she put 6 shots in a 3 inch circle at 30 feet. She loves it. I had her shoot my Smith and Wesson .375 and the kick was too much for her. I highly reccomend the Springfield.

I'll try the fish bag and see how it goes. I've been reading the kayak posts for a long time wanting to get in on it. If anyone would like to meet for a trip please let me know. I've learned of a few places that are easy to launch and not too far to fish but I'd really like to join others for tips and the comraderie.

That's a good idea too. I was also considering using a dry bag that would fit in the hatches of the boat. What do you do if you catch a big red?

The one problem I had was using a stringer that I hung from the side of the kayak. The stringer kept getting caught in the rudder and was a real pain. I was thinking about using a surf fishing float net instead. This will also save a lot of time stringing the fish as we go. Does anyone else have any ideas? My boat really isn't big enough for an ice chest. Thanks

Thank you, we are still optimistic about the outcome but it really puts everything into perspective. I think a lot more about things other than work and what is wrong when you are faced with adversity like this. I appreciate any prayers we can get.

My son just turned 12. I took him fishing several times in the past few years and booked a charter earlier this year. His birthday was last month and all he wanted to do was go back out in the marsh for reds. He's recently been diagnosed with possible cancer and I plan on taking him as much as possible. You can't replace the memories...

First of all, I hope and pray that he will be alright. I just made made plans for my 12 yr old and I to camp out on the state park in Grand Isle but have changed my mind now. When I was 15 I spent 3 weeks out there in a tent and caught more trout than I can count surf fishing, but I don't think it is worth the risk now. We will pray for him tonight. Good luck

I've got a 10 yr old son and want to take him on a guided trip. I won't mention any names, but left 4 messages with 4 different guides that are listed on this site and did receive a call back from anyone. My son goes back to school soon and would love to take him out before then. If anyone would like to accomodate please shoot me an e-mail. sducote@corrmatls.com

Thank you
