Just saw a report about President Trump rolling back Obama-era waterway protection stuff. Will that change any of the access issues we have here?

December 11, 2018 at 11:52am

Wow....criminals are getting ballsy. They are now advertising in the classifieds that we can buy fake passports, driver's licenses, divorce papers and other 'official' paperwork.....

Dev's of this site still see no need to put restrictions huh?

Am I understanding the Importation Ban correctly? Is it now illegal to bring a deer head into the state? If I kill a deer in Mississippi and I want it mounted, I have to find a taxidermist in Mississippi? Or any other state for that matter??

Can anyone recommend a good outfitter in Alabama? Me, my dad and my brother are wanting to go next season and would like some advice. We can only go in January, so that rules out the Midwest. We don't want Texas. We are looking to keep the cost around $2000 each.
We are looking hard at Tatum Creek. Does anyone have ay experience with them?
Or is there a good place in Arkansas or Mississippi. We will only have 3 days, so that rules out a DIY hunt.

Can anyone tell me if the Red River being high is putting water into Lake Larto?

Can anyone recommend a Toledo Bend Guide Service for sacalait? I am looking for a July trip, if that is even possible.

Anyone know how the Saints are doing???? Are they going to win The Super Bowl this year? I bet this is their year, oh, wait.....

Sorry, just couldn't resist.

September 15, 2014 at 9:20am

I know that Saline/Larto has been drained to repair the weir, but can anyone tell me the progress? Me and some others plan a yearly trip up there in October/November and I would like to know if we should cancel this year's trip.

Is there any way an Administrator can delete the accounts for fewgwegff, gewgwdasaaeg and ydebbie71? They seem to be the main ones posting scams in the classified sections. I lost count at how many I just removed and I am sure that in just a few hours, they will all be posted right back. If their account is deleted, won't that help? At least for several hours until they create a different bogus account?

August 08, 2014 at 7:29am

Tony, Andy or anyone else that makes decisions. Is there anyway a moderator can delete an entire account/profile? I just deleted several posts from LORDKB. He/she was trying to sale synthetic marijuana, medical marijuana, pills and other drugs. Deleting those posts are easy but who can delete him permanently? Thanks

Capt Paul - or anyone else with an opinion

I am not sure if you can say one way or the other but I was hoping you can point me in a specific direction. I am about to purchase a GPS/Sonar unit for my console and a sonar unit for the front of my boat. I am looking at the Humminbird 859ci HD (front) and Humminbird 678c HD (bow). I also am looking at the Lowrance Elite 7x HDI (bow) and Lowrance Elite 5 HDI (bow).

Any opinions on which is better? I fish freshwater and fish mainly Spillway/Verret but do go to other lakes/oxbows all over the state.

Thnaks for the help.

I usually don't post stuff like this but feel the need to so someone else doesn't make the same mistake.
If any of you in the Prairieville/Gonzales area need small engine work, DO NOT GO TO IKE'S FIX IT SHOP on HWY 73 just south of HWY 42.
My generator was leaking oil from where the engine shaft goes into the generator itself. Easy fix, no big deal. I spoke with Ike and he even confirmed that is what it was. I dropped the generator off to them in June, telling them I was in no rush to get it back unless a storm was in the Gulf. I noticed that in the mechanic yard there were hundreds if not thousands of generators, lawnmowers, weedeaters and all kinds of other stuff. When I dropped it off, I had to leave a $50 deposit. The girl that did the paperwork told they were backed up and for me to call the first week of August to check on it. I called like she said and was told they were about to get to it and to call back in September. September's phone call resulted in being told to call in October.
I tend to be too nice to people when it comes to things like this and I didn't need it so I let it go.
I got a call from the shop last week and was told that it was ready and that my total (after deducting my $50 deposit) was $394!!!!!!!! Just to replace a gasket!!!! The generator, brand new is $619. So, after keeping it for 6 months, they charge me almost the price of a new generator to replace a gasket that takes less then an hour to replace (that is the 2nd time it has been replaced).
After complaining to a few buddies, all of them told me I should have known that would happen as that is the reputation they have. I wish I would have researched places first.
Hopefully my screw-up will help someone not make the same mistake.

I'm hearing that Larto is extremely low right now. Is this accurate? Is it too low to launch? Is it low just because of the lack of rain or did the weir fail again? Going up there in 3 weeks and was just wondering if I need to plan to fish Black River or another oxbow up there. Thanks.

September 19, 2013 at 7:31am

Little help please. I just found out the transom on my boat is rotten. Sucks because I just dropped some $$$$ replacing carpet, seats, wet sanding the gelcoat and replacing all of my plumbing. Question is, do any of you know what I'm looking at spending to replace all of the wood? It's an 18 foot boat and I want ALL of the wood gone and replaced with glass. I know I can't get a quote but was looking for a ballpark figure. $3000? $5000? $5000+??? This boat is already 17 years old and I need to decide if it's worth fixing or should I just scrap it??

Want to take off half a day to catch some fish? Easy solution...invite your boss! Took my boss this afternoon and within 5 minutes of making the first cast, he sets the hook on what he thinks is a good fish. Turns out, it was 2 on the same crankbait! We ended the day at 5:30 with 12. Could've stayed til dark and easily finished our limit but like an idiot, I drained my livewells in favor of fresher water and forgot to refill it with fresher water. All fish died fairly qiuckly and I did not want them to spoil so we headed to the house. Not bad for 3 hours! Hot as Hades though!!

I'm wanting to book a trout trip for my dad this fall, late October through November. I'm wanting to keep it close to BR so we can do it all in one day. Any suggestions? Dularge? Hopedale? Shell Beach? Not interested in Lake P.

Anyone know where I can get some catalpa worms? The guy that was advertising here is no longer here and the only places online that are selling them want 2 legs, a hand and my first born son for shipping charges.

Either that or fish are full of eggs and will be easier to catch in the next month or 2. So people will want to take advantage of other people's knowledge so they can go fill the freezer. Not that this is what the OP is intending. When will people realize that if they go and figure it out for themselves, it will be much more satisfying? If money is an object and someone does not want to risk spending hard earned cash for no results....seafood markets have all the results one can buy, guaranteed!

joebuck - why should anyone tell you where the fish are biting? Before I go further I will say that I have both asked for help and given help. But, why should someone help? It is good to help others, absolutely. But helping others, especially when it comes to fishing, usually gets you screwed. Too many people these days wait to be told when and where the fish are biting instead of figuring it out for themselves. If you don't believe me, wait for Joe Macaluso's report to come out in the Thursday Advocate. Then, go to where the report says the fish are biting and look at all of the people fishing off of a report. Look at conditions. Look at river levels. Look at the particular time of year and make an educated guess at where your best options are. If you are concerned about how much money it will cost to trailer your boat to a destination and come home with nothing for the freezer, may I suggest going to your local seafood market and purchasing your fish from there. It will help stimulate your local economy and it will surely guarantee you have food for your family. And, it will cost you MUCH less than actually trying to catch them on your own.
The last time I helped a 'buddy', it really backfired. I had been on fish and this buddy asked me to take him. I took him and we hammered the fish. I go back the following weekend to find this same 'buddy' in his boat and 2 of his friends in their own boats sitting on the same spot raping it.
Too many people want handouts. Too many people correlate the success of their trip with filet poundage. Too many people think the only way to have a good time and make a trip worth going is to put fish on the table.
Conversely, if you look at the coloration of the fish, it should give you a good idea of where those fish were caught.
One last thing, catching fish that somebody else is catching is extremely difficult to do. Especially in this area of the state. Conditions change daily. The bite changes daily. I started having much more success when I started keeping a log of all my trips. I make note of the corresponding river stage (whether it is falling or rising), the weather, time of year and any other variable I can think of. This keeps me from having a busted trip.....sometimes lol.
Good luck. Catch fish. But above all, just go fishing!

October 19, 2018 at 8:32am

Because he doesn't want everybody and their momma running all over the area trying to catch fish. At the very least, he doesn't want a bunch of people emailing him trying to get the info 'privately'.

I am no trout expert but from my experience, you are about 1 month too late. You may still catch plenty of trout but you will have to weed through a ton of small trout just to find a keeper or two.
Again, I am no professional. I am sure there are people that still catch good size and numbers right now but from my experience, it is too late.
Either way, good luck to you.

Seems everybody wants to look at the post but not comment. Let me be the first to say what everyone else is thinking.
I see why you take your wife/girlfriend fishing. How many boats followed you around all day?

Jokes aside, you obviously have a ton of patience.

Just a regular largemouth bass. You will also catch some Kentucky Spotted Bass in the Tickfaw. Those usually have red eyes and will always have a tooth patch on their tongue. A smallmouth would not live long down here, the water gets entirely too hot for them. I wish we had some though!
Please dont take that as me calling you out or being a jerk. Just trying to help in case you go back and decide to keep a few. You will search and search in the regs looking for length and creel limit and never find the regs on smallmouth.

Glad you and your family enjoyed yourselves. I hate to be 'that guy', but there are no smallmouth in that river. Regardless, catch what you can!

Take some Dramamine before you will need it. Another tip that is more important then WHERE to fish is, get there early. Everybody and their momma will be there which will lead to idiot joe-joe's trying to launch a boat for the first time since the one time last year they went to the Spillway.

Fished Jack Miller's Sunday. No grass. Saw more apple snail eggs attached to trees than I have ever seen. They were everywhere. Some trees had 8-10 clusters on them. I didn't realize what they were until after I got home and WAFB did a short piece about them on the 6:00 news. Haven't seen any grass in Verret either, now that I think about it.

Not sure about catalpa worms, I never use the nasty things. $4 at any Walmart or bait shop will buy you a box of nightcrawlers. Rip em in half and thread them on the hook.

It is an oxbow, the catfish there are literally everywhere. You are making it harder than it really is. Trust me, night crawler 2 feet under a cork around trees.

A comment titled: Re: Lake St. John in response to a report titled: Lake St. John

You want GPS coordinates on an oxbow for catfish? Wow. How about just putting your boat in the water and fishing where you think they may be. It is an oxbow, nothing hard to figure out. You may actually find you enjoy it more than someone just handing you some fish.
I will offer 1 piece of advice for you though. This is Memorial Day weekend. There is usually a Poker Run on St. John every year on this weekend. Even if there isn't this year, there will be a TON of people skiing and even more people on jet skis and party barges.
There are only 2 public ramps on St. John. Spokane is the best. The other one is almost all the way down the lake, past Spokane.

A comment titled: Re: House Bill 391 and the CCA in response to a report titled: House Bill 391 and the CCA

fairfisher - When land erodes, they still claim ownership of the water bottom. Look at catfish Lake in Golden Meadow. You can have your boat, on it's trailer, on the ramp and it is fine. As soon as your boat enters the water, you are trespassing. Catfish Lake used to have islands. Those islands are now gone. Now, the entire lake s private property. I have brought this subject up before. Eroded = gone, no more, cease to exist. How can you own something that does not exist?
Also, asking questions will not get any answers. All you will get in response is being called a socialist democrat freeloader and told to pound sand because the bill was destined to fail. Forget what is right or what is wrong. We are just supposed to accept it because it is the law and we are supposed to like it. Eventually, this law will be changed and that is exactly what I will tell all of the 'landowners'.....pound sand you socialist democrat.

Just because it was destined to fail, whether because of how it was written or any other reason, does not mean it is right. People are claiming that they own public water!! And unfortunately, the powers that be are siding with the money instead of the public.

A comment titled: Re: House Bill 391 and the CCA in response to a report titled: House Bill 391 and the CCA

Let's look at this a different way, in strict regards to LAND. Let's say I own a 50 acre tract of land and the Amite River, which is public, runs through the middle of it. Behind my 50 acres is 1000 acres that is state land. This state land can only be accessed from the Amite River. Is it legal for me to claim that 1000 acres of state land as MINE? Go ahead....I will wait
