Does anybody know what the surge was for the Verret/Bayou Black area? I can imagine it was not even close to the 8 foot prediction. Fishing was getting good and I would hate to see a big fish kill there. Thanks
I heard that the Tropical Storm a few weeks ago scattered the trout in Venice and that they are hard to come by. Is this the case? And if so, have they started grouping back up yet? I have a trip planned for next week and the guide pics I am seeing are showing mainly reds and sheephead (eewwww)...I'm started to get a little concerned! Thanks for any info you may provide.
How is the trout fishing in Venice in July, early July? Small trout move in in Grand Isle...in my experience....is it the same for Venice? I will be with a guide so I am sure he will be on them, I hope.
Just saw a report about President Trump rolling back Obama-era waterway protection stuff. Will that change any of the access issues we have here?
Wow....criminals are getting ballsy. They are now advertising in the classifieds that we can buy fake passports, driver's licenses, divorce papers and other 'official' paperwork.....
Dev's of this site still see no need to put restrictions huh?
Am I understanding the Importation Ban correctly? Is it now illegal to bring a deer head into the state? If I kill a deer in Mississippi and I want it mounted, I have to find a taxidermist in Mississippi? Or any other state for that matter??
Can anyone recommend a good outfitter in Alabama? Me, my dad and my brother are wanting to go next season and would like some advice. We can only go in January, so that rules out the Midwest. We don't want Texas. We are looking to keep the cost around $2000 each.
We are looking hard at Tatum Creek. Does anyone have ay experience with them?
Or is there a good place in Arkansas or Mississippi. We will only have 3 days, so that rules out a DIY hunt.
Thanks
Can anyone tell me if the Red River being high is putting water into Lake Larto?
Thanks
Can anyone recommend a Toledo Bend Guide Service for sacalait? I am looking for a July trip, if that is even possible.
Thanks
Anyone know how the Saints are doing???? Are they going to win The Super Bowl this year? I bet this is their year, oh, wait.....
Sorry, just couldn't resist.
I know that Saline/Larto has been drained to repair the weir, but can anyone tell me the progress? Me and some others plan a yearly trip up there in October/November and I would like to know if we should cancel this year's trip.
Thanks
Is there any way an Administrator can delete the accounts for fewgwegff, gewgwdasaaeg and ydebbie71? They seem to be the main ones posting scams in the classified sections. I lost count at how many I just removed and I am sure that in just a few hours, they will all be posted right back. If their account is deleted, won't that help? At least for several hours until they create a different bogus account?
Tony, Andy or anyone else that makes decisions. Is there anyway a moderator can delete an entire account/profile? I just deleted several posts from LORDKB. He/she was trying to sale synthetic marijuana, medical marijuana, pills and other drugs. Deleting those posts are easy but who can delete him permanently? Thanks
Capt Paul - or anyone else with an opinion
I am not sure if you can say one way or the other but I was hoping you can point me in a specific direction. I am about to purchase a GPS/Sonar unit for my console and a sonar unit for the front of my boat. I am looking at the Humminbird 859ci HD (front) and Humminbird 678c HD (bow). I also am looking at the Lowrance Elite 7x HDI (bow) and Lowrance Elite 5 HDI (bow).
Any opinions on which is better? I fish freshwater and fish mainly Spillway/Verret but do go to other lakes/oxbows all over the state.
Thnaks for the help.
I usually don't post stuff like this but feel the need to so someone else doesn't make the same mistake.
If any of you in the Prairieville/Gonzales area need small engine work, DO NOT GO TO IKE'S FIX IT SHOP on HWY 73 just south of HWY 42.
My generator was leaking oil from where the engine shaft goes into the generator itself. Easy fix, no big deal. I spoke with Ike and he even confirmed that is what it was. I dropped the generator off to them in June, telling them I was in no rush to get it back unless a storm was in the Gulf. I noticed that in the mechanic yard there were hundreds if not thousands of generators, lawnmowers, weedeaters and all kinds of other stuff. When I dropped it off, I had to leave a $50 deposit. The girl that did the paperwork told they were backed up and for me to call the first week of August to check on it. I called like she said and was told they were about to get to it and to call back in September. September's phone call resulted in being told to call in October.
I tend to be too nice to people when it comes to things like this and I didn't need it so I let it go.
I got a call from the shop last week and was told that it was ready and that my total (after deducting my $50 deposit) was $394!!!!!!!! Just to replace a gasket!!!! The generator, brand new is $619. So, after keeping it for 6 months, they charge me almost the price of a new generator to replace a gasket that takes less then an hour to replace (that is the 2nd time it has been replaced).
After complaining to a few buddies, all of them told me I should have known that would happen as that is the reputation they have. I wish I would have researched places first.
Hopefully my screw-up will help someone not make the same mistake.
Just wanted to send a Thank You to a/the LSM Moderator(s).

I'm hearing that Larto is extremely low right now. Is this accurate? Is it too low to launch? Is it low just because of the lack of rain or did the weir fail again? Going up there in 3 weeks and was just wondering if I need to plan to fish Black River or another oxbow up there. Thanks.
Little help please. I just found out the transom on my boat is rotten. Sucks because I just dropped some $$$$ replacing carpet, seats, wet sanding the gelcoat and replacing all of my plumbing. Question is, do any of you know what I'm looking at spending to replace all of the wood? It's an 18 foot boat and I want ALL of the wood gone and replaced with glass. I know I can't get a quote but was looking for a ballpark figure. $3000? $5000? $5000+??? This boat is already 17 years old and I need to decide if it's worth fixing or should I just scrap it??
Thanks
Jeremy
Want to take off half a day to catch some fish? Easy solution...invite your boss! Took my boss this afternoon and within 5 minutes of making the first cast, he sets the hook on what he thinks is a good fish. Turns out, it was 2 on the same crankbait! We ended the day at 5:30 with 12. Could've stayed til dark and easily finished our limit but like an idiot, I drained my livewells in favor of fresher water and forgot to refill it with fresher water. All fish died fairly qiuckly and I did not want them to spoil so we headed to the house. Not bad for 3 hours! Hot as Hades though!!
Is anyone else having problems with the back button? This is the only website where the back arrow doesn't work. I click the arrow and nothing happens.
Is the fish 19 inches long and the girth 17.75 inches? or is it 2 fish..1 is 19 and the other is 17.75? If it is 2 fish and those are the lengths, I would say the 19 incher is 4+ and the 17 incher is 3+. But, it all depends on when they were caught. This time of the year they are heavy with eggs. If you catch them in August, they will not be as heavy due to the strain of the hot water.
Length x girth x girth / 800 is the formula. Using that formula, your fish is just over 7lbs. A bass from the spillway that is 14 inches long will be 2 lbs all day long. A 19 inch long fish weighing only 2 lbs is a sick fish IMO.
If he survives another couple of years, that side of his rack may develop into something crazy.
50 yards or less.....I'd go 308. My family also has an H&R 44 mag that was purchased for my and my brother's kids when they were small. That is an incredible gun and round for sub-100 yards. No recoil and cheap ammo.
I have killed many deer with a 270 but have since shelved it in favor of a 7mag. I found that the last 5-6 deer I shot with my 270, did not bleed a single drop. It got so bad with a lack of blood, the last 2 I killed I made sure I shot through the front shoulder instead of behind the front shoulder. I shot 130 gr and 150 gr and even played with different bullet manufacturers. I hunted in Grosse Tete and every shot was less than 100 yards. All of the shots, minus the direct shoulder shots, were behind the shoulder and complete pass throughs. The deer never ran more than 50-60 yards but there was just no blood. Small hole in, small hole out. My dad has hunted with a 270 his entire life and has had no issue with it. I found a deal on the 7mag I have now and could not pass it up and have really taken a liking to it. All 3 calibers you mentioned are good and will do the job. I think that people put too much stock in what caliber the gun is and not enough consideration on shot distance and shot placement. If you shoot any high powered rifle and place the bullet in the boiler room, the deer will die. The question will be is if you can find it easily.
getreel - You are correct, I am wrong. I have always been told that and I just read the regs. All it says is that they cannot be transported across state lines into Louisiana. My apologies Mathgeek. That's what I get for being a know-it-all......
Just an FYI - It is illegal to use goldfish for bait in this state.
Awesome, thanks. I understand it is trivial compared to what some have lost, but I was hoping the surge would be minimal. Fishing was just really recovering in this area.
Nothing wrong with a sheephead. It's just not a fish I want to target, especially with a guide. Now, if I was by myself it'd be a different story. I do not know the area and would be happy to catch anything.
Thanks. I am going with probably the most known guide down there and I am sure he will put us on them. It's been years since I have fished inshore in GI and can remember June being our best month with July being great for numbers but having to weed through schoolers.
Bow pointed straight up in the air, motor bogged down, throwing a 3 foot wake....and they wave at you like they are doing you a favor.
I work for the government and they are making me come to work...as well as a few hundred other people at the same complex. If it is safe enough for me to report to work and be around a few hundred people, it is surely safe enough for me to spend time in a boat by myself.
I have seem flounder caught in Pigeon and redfish caught in Palourde. It is not a common thing, but it happens.
Agreed on the live grass shrimp.....nothing better. Will catch anything that swims and will outfish anything else, hands down. Problem is finding them and then keeping them alive.
Look at Richard K. Yancey WMA....70,000 acres loaded with hogs and all public.
LETUMGROW - That is a huge stump and an even bigger feed trough to make that black panther look so small!
I think it is ok to ask general questions, i.e. 'How is the water in Verret?' or something of the sort. What is not ok, is asking specifics. Or using your kids/wife/older parent to make it SEEM like you would be helping them. Too many times I have seen word spread and an area go from 5-10 boats to 50-60.
I agree. When I used to fish 2-3 days a week, I would dread the Thursday edition of The Advocate. Joe Macaluso would post the fishing report. Wherever he would say the fish were biting, I would head the opposite way. I also used to post pics of successful trips but got sick of the emails I would get from people wanting to know where, on what, how, what time, what I eat for a snack, how I combed my hair and what my favorite movie was. Too many people just wait to see someone's success instead of just going fishing and learning for themselves. Those same people also do not understand that one of the hardest things to do in fishing is to catch fish someone else is on!
Wise man once said, 'Follow the money.'
Agreed. The best thing that has happened since this site changed is now I actually do my job a little bit better as I am not on this site constantly. And yes, they could change the name of this site to \'Dularge trout and redfish reports\'. This also used to be the best site to sell outdoor related items. That is a thing of the past as well.
