Bringing my teenage boys to Grand Isle for my first ever trip there to fish Thursday afternoon/evening and Friday morning. Looks like a falling tide for Thursday afternoon and rising tide for Friday morning. Looking for trout and redfish so any suggestions on where to fish right now and what to use would be appreciated. Capt. Paul, Was wondering if you had coordinates for three popular winter time fishing spots along Hwy. 1 called Forbidden Hole, Snake Pit, and Radio Tower Hole. Regards, Cason G.

Anyone catching crabs or shrimp at Joseph's Harbor lately? Trying to find a place to take my young boys crabbing.

Might want to remember Capt. Paul, the GPS man on this site who also makes the Fishing Edge files. Heard he is recuperating from open-heart surgery. Hope you get well quickly, Capt. Paul!

Anyone know who works on boat plumbing in the area? Have got 3 livewells on the boat with copper pipes in the back that have corroded a bit and are probably leaking some. Need to have them checked out to see if they are and which livewell is being fed by which pipe.

Anyone catch lately at any of the SMI rigs, Tiger Shoals wellheads, or Eugene Island 74 etc.? Planning on going tomorrow to try to find some fish. Thanks!

Any of you fishermen know of any ethanol-free gas stations in the New Iberia area? Just had to bring my boat in for about $400 of repair work due to ethanol-related gas problems. The only place I found that claimed to have ethanol-free gas is Hebert's across from Dago's in Lydia. Anyone able to verify this? Called Dagos as well but they didn't know one way or the other.

Am interested in castnetting some at Marsh Island for live shrimp to fish with. Anyone have any suggestions for any particular weirs or dams?

Just wondering if anyone has a good recommendation where you have caught specks or reds, fishing from the bank, bridge, etc. using plastics, dead shrimp, or live bait. Willing to drive up to 1 1/2 hrs. east or west of New Iberia. Have a small boat but not real safe to take small kids in.

Made my first cast of the day yesterday with one of my Shimano Curado reels, and the freespool button would not disengage when I began to try to reel my bait in. I had to manually thumb reel my bait back to the boat. Any suggestions?

Some guides will also guide out of your boat if you have one that's adequately sized and equipped for half the cost or so of their regular-priced charter.

Guess the water cleared up eh Capt.? Wanted to go yesterday but had to head in the opposite direction to Lake Charles on business.

A comment titled: Should be calm tomorrow Capt. in response to a report titled: Rough Seas

looks like winds should be 5 mph or less. Not sure how quickly the waters will clear up though. If they have to open the Morganza Spillway with all of the high Mississippi River water I hope it doesn't mess up Dularge/Cocodrie for the summer....sure would be nice to have one 'normal' summer, lol!

A comment titled: I wouldn't go.... in response to a report titled: Marsh Island

unless you're going to be bottom fishing. The water is filthy everywhere in the bay right now with the rising water that's pouring out of the Atchafalaya right now.

A comment titled: Only good snake.... in response to a report titled: snakes

I'm always amazed at the number of people who try to convince others to 'learn more' about snakes to see which ones are 'bad' and which are 'good'. I simply don't have time nor want to take the time to decide if a snake is 'good' or 'bad'. I will shoot or shovel any snake that comes within range and won't bat an eye! Since the Garden of Eden when Satan chose the body of a serpent to represent him, and the serpent allowed himself to be occupied by him, snakes have represented evil. Just last week I had the pleasure of shooting a nasty-looking 3 1/2 ft. snake in our pond. Heck, my dad used to take us at this time of the year on snake shoots up and down the bayous with .22's.....it was a blast!

Believe the launch fee is $5-6, and he usually has frozen bait shrimp, crabs, and sometimes cocahoe minnows.

A comment titled: Matt...here's a website for you in response to a report titled: Dularge Trout Fishing

www.lumcon.edu Click on Facilities then Monitoring. You can then click on several different locations in the Cocodrie/Dularge area which will give you all kinds of weather and water-related current information including water temperatures.

Bush was really not a conservative. He was good for keeping us safe from terrorists but was not fiscally conservative. Find myself aligning more with the TEA party these days. Tired of big government!

I knew things like this would become reality before Obama got into office...that's why I voted for the other candidate, even though he wasn't a conservative either. Hopefully enough TEA party candidates will get into office after next week's voting to at least defund all of these left-wing ideas.

Any idea what your ticket fine will be? Looks like you don't need the closed area with the good catch you had in the open area!

A comment titled: Federal Closures in response to a report titled: Redfisherman

The federal closures are ridiculous and should be opened immediately. Officials are having trouble finding much oil anywhere right now and surely there is not oil 3 miles off the coast and beyond from Lake Charles to Venice!!

A comment titled: Thanks in response to a report titled: Dularge Redfish Action

Enjoyed the day anyway and learned a new area....the young ones really liked seeing the alligator so close to the boat! Glad to finally take a trip with you after having to reschedule since January due to freezing temps, wind, oil, etc. Just a minor correction...we're actually from New Iberia, and George Blanchard, the one pictured with the smart aleck grin on his face, had the lucky rod for the day and lives in Patterson.
