I just found out that the Louisiana National Guard supported Tournament at Spring Bayou will be on March 21st. It is an open tournament to all, payout is good and it supports a good cause. Actually, it is a good family day event and is held at the WMA landing campground area. I will try to post a screen shot of the flyer shortly if I can get it to work.
Well, now that turkey season is winding down, its time to start fishing down South...We'll be hitting Boothville/Venice in the next several weekends for some REDFISH and TROUT action...
Here are a few pics from the turkey pursuits this season:
please post info on venice boothville--any flooding ????
Today 2/6/08, three friends and I went to Lock and Dam No. 1. We got out there at 7:30 am in the morning and we were trying to snag some fish. We also did some tight lineing. Not 20 minutes into it, my friend decided to go a ways down and hooked up with a 45 inch spoon bill. The fight was on for about 25 minutes. The day turned out ok as we caught at least 25 catfish. We had one that went 20 pounds or so, and one that pushed 28 pounds. Most important, we had a good day.
The above is an edited version, as the original report, spelling errors and all, was by Brody Laiche, my 11 year old son who wants to post like the rest of us...He used my LA Sportsman account, so he and I have edited the original to read a bit clearer. I am nontheless proud, as his interest is enjoying hunting and fishing is most certainly there...like father, like son, and I am thankful for that....Good fishin' guys.
Considering a development of CAMP LOTS in Empire/Boothville/Venice area and wondering if anyone would be interested. I am considering developing lots WITH EACH HAVING A 15 X 40 or 50 x 14 high BOAT SHED ON THE LOT. The community would have 10 to 12 lots total and be set up for you to put up to a 16 x 80 single wide mobile home. May do RV spots in an area. The entire area would be secured with a high fence and there would be 2 electronic gates. One on Hwy 23 and one on River Road. The lot and boat shed would be leased on an annual lease, monthly pay would be ok on the annual lease, but I would give a discount for annual pay. This will be a nice place, secure and controlled entry only. the lots would be 100 x 100 or 100 x 125, and each boat shed would have a private fish cleaning patio with sink and cleaning table. Garbage pick up would be at Highway 23 in an estabished bin. Comments, thoughts are appreciated.
Hit the beaches out of South Pass and eastward on Sat and Sunday. Did great on Saturday with a limit of reds with 4 of us fishing. Caught 23 tout with several between 18 and 24 inches, and only one we had to measure. Suday was a bit s-l-o-w-e-r, but stil has 12 nice reds, and on 35 incher on a popa dog. Also had a few nice trout, bit the bite was slow.
Had friends Chris and Adam Armnd with us and it was an enjoyable trip. The heat was tough, but we came in mid day to get out of it. Good luck and good fishin' to all.
saw post and went to Hornady web site for info--looks like the company had problems getting the powder used last year and the end result is a new powder with a 175 FPS decrease--I have not sited in yet--so, no big deal--but if you sighted in with last years ammo and buy a new box (with different powder) I think u should check your zero--just wanted to put the word out to all u 45/70 users. good luck to all this season
As most know, Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop, La is in the mist of the annual tent sale...we made the trip today and hooked up with 2 more 45/70's for the Ms muzzleloader season...BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THERE ARE A FEW POSTS SELLING THE H & R 45/70 in the clasifieds section here for much more than Simmons is selling then new in the box...they are only $ 199 at Simmons for the wood stock version..I think the synthetic version is $ 239.00 (not for sure)...As usual, spent more than I planned, but picked up great deals on steel shot shells, ATV ramp, ladder stands, camo, etc... Hunting time is around the corner---GOOD LUCK TO ALL THIS SEASON.
Anyone heard that a 9 lb trout was caught in the Breton area this past week??? I was told it was a fellow out of Gulfport or Biloxi. Have it on a reliable person and also the the fellow was not entered in STAR. Any one hear this???
Did ok on Sat morning-42 trout- 2 reds, then went work on our camp; A few good trout, 4 + lbs--Mainly on live--even made the long run to Freemason to see what was goning on out that way--I saw several boats--not sure how folks did in the early morning, but our bite was s-l-o-w by mid day--Sunday, got a late start, and dodged a big thunder storm-did not do as well, 39 trout and 5 reds. The tide was just not right this weekend-- Hopefully, next will be better in terms of the numbers.
Been out on vacation for a few weeks. Missed reviewing the posts. We did the "Disney World" thing and came to a conclusion: Fishing is cheaper and there are more "Princesses" then I ever realized(but my 4 year old daughter knew each)!!!!
We did take a guide for Bass fishing in "Bay Lake" (the main Disney World lake)-- we smoked them on a 2 hour trip-60 + bass with several nice fish--one 5 1/2 pounder--schooling fish on Pop R and live bait--The place is catch and release and guided trps only--it is loaded with bass--If you go, book a trp a it was just plain fun catchng top water schoolig bass.
NOW, BACK TO THE FISHIN' GROUNDS--VENICE--Any recent reports on Venice/Breton/Black Bay/Central Rig areas for trout would be appreciated. Trying to head down ths weekend!!!!!!!!!!All jump starts are always appreciated.
We all need to remember those brave AMERICANS who gave all to their country!!!! We enjoy great fishin' and huntin', live free, and have so much ......... thanks to those who put their country first. Thanks to all our soldiers, past and present!!!!
My crew had a good trip even in spite of the wind!!!! The numbers were not there-only 26 trout on Sat, but it was still fun. Good thing was, these were all 2.5 + pound fish. We ran west to Sandy Point and a few spots further west. This was an attempt to get out of the wind and find good water. The trout were hitting on the incoming tide. Can u say "electric-chicken", because that was the ticket. Corks, but a few tight lineing.
Sunday was a different story, but I consider it scouting. There is little, if any at all, clean water on the East side (out Baptiste Collette and North)where we have been catching for the past several weeks. The break line is just West of Breton Island (what is left of them). We ran out there Sunday for a change and to have a "look see" and took home a few (12) nice trout on the "wade". It was the 1 st wade trip and they had 8 other anglers out there. Everyone seemed to be catching a few, and trout were good size. Hopefully, things will pick up out there.
To all, Good luck and Great Fishin'
Headed down at weeks end? Any reports would be appreciated.
Any one made the run?? How was the trout bite?? big trout?? where?? Any reports are apreciated as I am thinking about it???
It's Mothers Day-so only time for a quick report. Sat and Sun we had late starts. But, Team Stolen Monkey came through again. Not with the BIG TROUT we were looking for, but a great trip nonetheless. Got live on Sat, but did not really use/need them. Went out Baptiste Collette and North both days. Picked up 28 trout and 4 nice Red Fish by 12:30 and headed in. Trout were 12" to 22"-no really big ones. Sun, 34 trout, all 12" to 16" and we had 1 30" Red. Left early for Mothers Day. Good luck to all, and stay safe out there!!!
