Atchafalaya Basin to be jump-off point; Lamar-Dixon site of weigh-ins.
The inaugural Louisiana Sportsman Open bass tournament will be held March 10-11 in conjunction with the Louisiana Sportsmens Show, and will feature a guaranteed $10,000 first-place prize.
The Louisiana Sportsmens Show is the perfect venue for a bass tournament, offering a central weigh-location to highlight what a great fishery we have in South Louisiana, show director Jack Fisher said.
The event, sponsored by Skeeter-Yamaha, will be a two-man team event with daily weigh-ins held at the Lamar-Dixon Center in Gonzales. All entrants will fish the first day, with the top 20 moving on to the final-day competition.
Entry fee is $200 per team, with an optional $20 big-bass pot. Teams are limited to no more than two anglers.
While the team that rises to the top of the field after the scales close is guaranteed to receive $10,000, each of the top 20 teams will receive a check.
The 20th team will receive $500, based on 150 boats, Fisher said.
Participants will launch from Doirons Landing in Stephensville, and can fish either the Lake Verret area or the Atchafalaya Basin.
Each team may weigh no more than five bass per day.
Fisher said anglers must launch and return to the same side of the levee either on the Lake Verret side or at Doirons launch inside the Basin.
Anglers can launch and head to their waters beginning at 4:30 a.m., but cannot begin fishing until a time to be determined at a later date.
The teams must check in at the dock no later than 2:30 p.m. on the first day of competition and no later than 1:30 p.m. on the second day.
Any team missing those deadlines will be disqualified.
Boaters will have to trailer to Lamar-Dixon in time for the weigh-in. Scales close at 5 p.m. on March 10 and at 3:30 p.m. on the following day.
A captains meeting will be held on March 7 at Cabela's in Gonzales.

A few people have been posting questions for Captain Paul on GPS locations and you may have noticed the response time has been slow. Here is the reason...
Captain Paul has been under the weather. I called him today and I should have a good time line as to when to expect to see him back in service. As soon as I know, I will post the date.
He has also asked us to pull the fishing edge programs from our shopping cart for the same reason.
Please check back for the updates.
Sorry for the delay, but the January 2007 tide guides have been uploaded today.
For those of you who like to plan, we now have the Tide Guides for 2007 and 2008 available through our web site, or you can call or swing by the office.
Today I was accompanied by Kent Saxon & Allen Wall of Gator Trax Boats in Springfield, La.
Fished out of Breton Sound Marina on Escape Charters with Capt. Tim Ursin (Capt. Hook).
After a half hour boat ride straight out the MRGO, we began fishing Carolina rigs with live shrimp next to a platform.
Two hours later a 120 qt. ice chest was filled with 4 limits of the most beautiful speckled trout I've seen in years.
Capt. Tim was very attentive to my customers' every need.
I hope to fish with him again soon.

OK, it's not this difficult: Just click 'Report' or 'Forum' in the top nav to view the reports in your favorite style. That's as simple as it gets, folks.
Even if your software is ancient, those links should work. But we recommend updating your browser to take full advantage of the new features.
I was told about the RC plane on the site and I had to add my 2 cents. Here in New Orleans we have 2 RC clubs in the area, New Orleans Model Aviation Club http://www.nomacrc.com/ and the Crescent City RC Club, http://www.ccrcc.com. Both clubs welcome new members that are interested in the sport. Check out their web sites and give them a call if you are inteested. I have posted a few photos so you can see all we fly. Small electric planes and helicopters, to the large (150 CC) sized 3D airplanes, to the top end turbine Jets. Check them out, let me know what you think
You should be able to view all comments now. I did remove the duplicate " what's the problem comments"
