Fishing reports first, Sunday we had a call out of Myrtle Grove and noticed 30 boats anchored up in Wilkerson canal. From what we saw the bite was late, and steady. We ran to little lake to get a customer and noticed it covered with grey ducks. On way back noticed a work boat hung up, nobody injured. On another note yesterday we responded to a 43 ft sportfisher trying to go out of Main Pass, Venice. Not a good choice. If you fish Venice, I hope you are a member of Sea Tow Westbank.

Windy day reds, find the clean water and it's on.

We've towed an alarming number of boats without a VHF radio onboard. Once you're a couple miles South of Venice, most cell phones don't have service. Even if you do have service, if you have to abandon ship, a wet cell phone in your pocket isn't going to do any good. That's why even if your boat has a fixed mount radio, a handheld in your ditch bag is a must. Remember, a VHF radio may be your only chance at calling us or the USCG for help. Our friends at Sea-Trac Offshore Marine Electronics are offering the Standard Horizon HX150 for $99.99. It's a fully waterproof, floating handheld VHF radio. Give them a call at 1-800-899-0591 and ask for sales. Don't forget to tell them that Sea Tow Westbank sent you!

Not often Capt Evan and i get to fish together. So Black friday we snuck out and picked away at 26 trout in about an hour or so. We could see and hear HWY 23. The fish are a little scattered but it should turn wide open soon. 13-15 inch trout on plastics with cork. Wind picked up and trout shut down.

Sheriff office called me at 7AM today asked us to get 2 stranded duck hunters and there dog. They left yesterday at 5AM IN VENICE area. NO FOOD,NO PHONE CHARGER,NO MARINE RADIO, NO FLOAT PLAN, They stuck their outboard way up in the duck ponds on a sand bar and water fell out. No they were not Sea Tow members. A passing by mud boat lent them a phone and pin dropped it to me. We got them out but not there boat. He hired an airboat co and went back. There lack of planning and knowledge could have cost them there life.
There mistake sure had everybody from Sheriffs office to USCG on edge.

Today some avid anglers were heading to the insane Bull run on the beach out of empire. They ran over the top of a dredge pipe, game over. I counted over 30 boats from Bay Long to Bastien Bay. Some boats were even catching trout.
Don't forget our fall fishing special 14 months for price of 12. Special ends October 31.

Submerged Object: Lake Decade
As Marty stated there used to be a small wellhead at that location for about 10-12 years. I used the well head to line up the red beacon at night when crossing lake at night.
I am on the water 4-5 days a week and have hit submurged pipelines etc. Generally in Plaqumines Parish
Steps to make a claim: Get GPS, Contact Terribone coastal zoning,
Give coordinates, they can tell you who is responsible, get number and call them, hope they are in business.
No matter what, this needs to be rectified before someone gets hurt. Water will be dropping soon.
Fishermen usually will mark an area that is dangerous with multiple pvc pipes sticking in all directions in order to not tear nets etc. Multiple pvc pipes are common in lafitte, Empire, Venice etc.
Hope this helps.

For your bag itself, a floating bright colored bag is a must. If it sinks or you can't see it, everything in it is useless. ACR makes 2 different models that are nice.
Here's the larger of the two bags. https://www.acrartex.com/products/catalog/survival-products-gmdss/rapidditch-bag/#sthash.FJTv1Zym.dpbs

Here's a basic list of supplies you should have in your bag.
EPIRB
Handheld VHF
Strobe
Air Horn
Signal Mirror
Whistle
Parachute Flares
Handheld Flares
Water
Bright Bandannas (to cover your head for sun protection)
Sunscreen that can be applied wet
Bug Spray (especially if you're in the marsh)
Knife
10'-15' of floating rope (to use as a tether to keep everyone together)
Flashlights
Radar Reflector
Smoke Signals

Our friends at Sea-Trac can help you with all of your ACR brand items as well as your VHF.

There are trout around.
Popping cork and clear beetle.
Fish 30 yards off the little broken islands.
Wilkerson Bayou area.

November 21, 2016 at 4:39pm

I ran it today out to the bay to empire and back. A boat hit a dredge pipe and we got them back safe. If you are unsure of an area, idle.
Bull reds were all over the beach in packs. I would stay up and down bayou Wilkerson and fish all drains, that's 10 miles of water. Also maybe bay 5. For trout. Trout on plastics, reds on fresh shrimp, not old shrimp.
Good luck.

Please check your insurance policy Re: towing
At times insurance co call me to go get there stranded boater/customer and if I am tied up with our Sea Tow members I have to decline the call. We get extremely busy and handle our customers. Last saterday i was on a 5 hr tow in venice, sunday i was on a tow from bay jimmy to grand isle. Our boats are yellow and I have never seen another insurance co boats towing in my area.
Good luck
