Kayak fishermen can enjoy Bayou Saint John again as it will open to Lake Pontchartrain soon. Does any one know if or what type of fish can be expected to return to the bayou?
When commandos are operating deep in the jungle, silent and hidden behind enemy lines they use kayaks!
Louisiana sportsmen it's time to put kayaks to use when hunting. We have thousands of miles of swamp and water ways that seems ideal for kayak hunting.
However, is it legal to hunt from a kayak? If so, I can see a new sport being developed in Louisiana.
I really enjoy kayak fishing and touring. I often see giant boar, dear, ducks, and more while paddling back waters.
The guys at KC Kayaks, (A Louisiana Company) have a kayak that seems perfect for the new sport called the K12 CAMO.
Does anyone else have a interest in kayak hunting?
I recently sold my old Kayak and went out to replace it looking for a great deal.
My budget was for below $500. I started online looking and found a Field & Stream 12' Eagle Run Kayak at Dick's for $474 that fit my needs.
I was looking for big capacity as I am 279 lbs and plan to carry about 100 lbs. I also needed dry storage space for my gear as we paddle a couple of miles to reach the camp and need to bring our stuff. Another requirement was a sit inside kayak to keep dry when it's cold.
I purchased the kayak at Dick's for $474 and a matching paddle for $99. I took it out for a test on calm water a few days later and was happy. The kayak was faster than my old one and had better tracking also.
I plan to put it to use soon on a few day fishing trip.
Here is the specs:

Last week I used my new rod and reel rigged with 10lb test to fish with. During the trip I pulled in 5 big drum over 30lbs and each one was at least a 20 min fight. Should I replace my line now?
I was reeling in a redfish when my line broke from the bobber and kept coming up near me until I managed to catch it by hand. It was quite hard as I was in a Kayak that was about as stable as a log....
Last weekend I pulled in a drum that measured over 36' and weighed close to 80lbs. It may have been a state record. What should I have done to record this?
I started Kayak fishing a few years ago as a way to get out and fish without breaking the bank. I became hooked on my first trip. Over the past few years I purchased Kayaks for my wife, daughter, and son. We go out at least 4 days a month on overnigtht trips and love it.
