Goin to Mandeville camping this weekend with the whole family...........Will be fishing the "real" big lake, SO!!!!......If you see a McKee and a Boston Whaler following you around, Watch out!!! My brother Alan can't cast too well, and may end up throwing his lure in yoiur boat!!!! Not to mention, My old man don't drive to well, and may run up on your boat!!!! To avoid this mishap, you could give a brother a few hints????? Hope to see you out there.........Tim
He slowly and silently crept up on the unknowing Goose, once close enough...........HE POUNCED!!!!!!! Got him in a head lock, then ripped it off and started chewing on his neck..........He's a little unorthodox, but He gets the job done............
Ok.........Been boat shopping, Finally getting ready to actually buy one......I've looked at them all, bay boats, sport boats, flats boats, center consoles, and Walkarounds..........As of now I'm leaning toward the walkaround.
Reasons are as follows.......
My Wife wants a bathroom inside somewhere, she won't hang her butt over the side.
She also wants somewhere to get out of the rain if we catch some.
With 3 kids at home, would like somewhere for them to go to get out of the sun, rest ,etc.......
I want something that will do OK in Big Lake as well as Grand Isle.(tired of getting there and being greated by 3 footers and can't go fish cause boat is to small)
When I go to Grand Isle, I hate having to pay 185 dollars a night for a room I only use for 5 hours
I've talked to friends and relatives(you know who you are) and they have givin me mixed reviews. Some say it's just a big storage space, others say you can't ride in there while underway anyway, so why have it??
I'm looking for some words from people that either have a Walkaround now, or have had one..........The pics above are the boat we are looking at......It's a 19 foot Trophy walkaround w/ a 150 Optimax.....Thanks.......Tim
Goin Hitch shopping today.........There seem to be about a Thousand different kind......I'm usually more of a do it yourself kinda guy, but these things seem heavy and bulky to work with........Is it worth it to pay the extra Hundred bucks to have it installed??
Seems kinda high to me.....I've onlyt called a few places so far. I may be able to find a cheaper install, But can't imagine it's worth a hundred??
If you have........how easy was it???
Gary, got a few pics of the pickle for ya.......Chris.....This is why you don't want to wade fish.........You look like an Idiot!!!!
Bet 100 bucks Huey out fishes you on the 7th.....................Any takers???
Bad weekend to get the itch, but gotta scratch it right????
Made my first trip to Lake P today with My Dad and little Sister......
First off.....MEGA FOG!!!!!! (made for a LONG, SLOW boat ride)
Second .......Always check the oil before you hit the water!!!!!! Even if your told it has plenty!!!!
Long story short.......Drove a LONG ways today to fish for (what seemed like) 45 min.......Total bag....2 Flounder.......
BIG BIG BIG BIG Thanks to Gary Zeraingue for bringing us some oil at the Dock, answering questions, and laughing with us...........
I'll Be back soon, hopefully with better conditions.........Maybe have better results......ALTHOUGH...I can't complain to much...I figured we'd get skunked?? And had a good time with Pop's and Lily.... Go figure..........Tim
Anyone use a different dog for ducks than a Lab???? My Rotti here is a GREAT retriever, can swim faster than a pirougue with a 25horse on it, and never gets tired......Just wondering........I'm sure theres a reason.......Any answers??????
My Family and I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!!! And remember, If you eat more than 10 lbs of food, it may be hard to get in the stand in the morning!!!! Also....no matter how much you have to drink.....just remember, the Turkey on the table is ALREADY dead.....DON'T SHOOT IT!!!!
Ok guys.........I already know what I'm gonna shoot......Unless you can convince me otherwise........Which would you use in a thick cover hunting area??? 30-06 or 44mag.....also which grain.....Don't think I will have a far shot to make......I would guess under 60yards.........I'm planning on the 44mag 240grn half jacket.........Sound good to you??? Look out by the way......as excited as I am about getting out there, Ya'll may have some new competition......But don't worry, I plan to kill one in the first 30 minutes, then getting out of your way!!!!! Tim
I'm in a pickle........Haven't gone deer hunting before, and want to try it out Opening day...........I have the Gun, Clothes, Scent killing juice, all that, But no stand........Was just gonna sit in a chair on the ground, but think that may be a bit dangerous......I REALLY don't want to go buy a climbing stand just to see if I like Deer hunting at all........Everyone I know that goes LOVES it!! but I usually don't like keeping still that long....I really want to try it out.....Does anyone have an old stand that I could use that weekend??? I promise it will be well taken care of, and returned in same condition..............I know this is alot to ask, but I really can't see buying one, not liking my experience, and having to sell it at a loss..........Any help would be GREATLY appreciated................Tim
My Brother Alan sent me this..........It's a pic of a Red that he cleaned last night after a GOOD day on Big Lake........He was fishing with GULP! Alive shrimp in molting color........when he cut this guy open, He had 2 other GULP! Alive shrimp in Molting color in his stomach........Jig heads and all.....Attached to each was a short length of Power Pro line.......He kept both baits because they were in such good shape, SO.....If your missing a couple lures.........Let me know and He'll return them??? Oh and to the Gulp nay-sayers........Heres your proof!!!!
Huey came home day after Gustav!!!!........Between him and the no power situation, I haven't been on in a few weeks. Hope everyone weathered the storm ok........Hey Ike........Go to Mexico!!!
Because of Global Warming we were forced to put the boat back on the trailer at 8:00 am on Saturday.......I don't mind getting rained on, I don't mind a little wind..........But when it's raining and windy AND 70 Degrees!!!! That's when I shake uncontrolably and get my butt home.........I was under the impression that its August?? Did I sleep straight through to November?? Luckily we were able to duck into the camp for about an hour(which was full of bees!!!) before heading in........So...on the water for 6:30.......hiding in the camp at 7.......boat back on trailer for 8.......GREAT day was had by all....................Ugh
Its become obvious to me that your not looking to say anything intelligent on this matter.........if that's your area, and you have a dog in the fight, then by all means, go after the Texas guys in your area........why are you asking my permission? Did you ask mommy what to wear this morning?
There is a real issue here. TX shut down their oyster fishing, so all those Texas boats are coming to big lake instead. The number of boats has more than doubled. If it was just the same local guys that have been doing this for decades, this wouldn't be as big a problem as it is.........with the use of dredges, the oystermen can deplete a reef in no time at all.........another issue is licensing, but that'll have to wait till next time........
He said DREDGING.....not oyster fishing........learn to read better and you may get somewhere in life........
He's right about dredges. The fisherman can and do take tons of oysters out of that lake. Law says they are to DRIFT while they cull, and they don't. Instead they anchor up and cull all in one spot making huge piles of oysters instead of a spread. This does two things. One it causes the oyster grounds to be clogged and growth is stunted, two, it makes huge mounds of shell near inches from the surface of the water that you WILL hit with your boat and cause MAJIR damage..........if the oyster fisherman were to only use tongues Tulsa would NOT be the case............noone IA trying to keep these guys from making a living, we just want them to do it ethically...............thanks for reading..............Tim
Mojo......it's been a while......I'm looking at my dog spud as I type this........he's 13 now. Boxers aren't supposed to live this long...........awhile back I had to carry him outside and hold him up so he could pee.............I know i'll have to do it soon...........Just looking at him knowing what needs to happen is SO HORRIBLE!!! Bud, I can't even begin to understand what your going thru..........My wife won't understand when it's "time". Neither will the kids...........oh crap!! How are your kids doing with this??? Man, I'll be around..........I'll be checkin up on ya.........Tim
I haven't been yet this year..........The woods were so messed up last year from Gustav that VERY few deer were taken.........This year should be better?? Anyone know if it is clearing up at all???
John, you have it backwards. more pitch will reduce rpm. I'd think a 15 or 17 at most for that boat/motor combo.
Joe.......you used to have Rod and Reel reviews with all your posts..........Tryin anything new besides the X-rap???
Joe.......you used to have tackle reviews with all your posts..........Tryin anything new besides the X-rap???
Get a revo...........all I gotta say about that.........
I've seen a sheep like that at the circus when I was a kid...........then it sneezed just like a human and the head fell off!!! What a sight for a little kid!!!!
Mine is Bayou Biscuit............because sea biscuit was already taken by a horse and a movie............
Before removing filter, pop a hole in the bottom of it..........Let it drain in small bucket, when all the oils out,, unscrew filter and replace??? That work???

That's my hat!!!! A fella shot it off my head last year...My wife called and I had that stupid duck call ring tone.....he came outta nowhere when he heard my phone ring....I high tailed outta there........glad someone picked it up!!!
The law was that ONLY a boat with a lein against it needed a title........That has now changed......anytime you register a boat with WLF you will need to pay an extra 15 dollars for a title......I just went thru this with them......
I'd tell the bank that they'll get the NEW title when you register it....
