Has anyone had any luck with bass or sacalait at Manchac or Tchefuncta? Trying to decide where to go that is within an hour or two from Denham.
Just wanted to say thanks to a few fellas who helped me out with some directions and tips. My wife and I made it to the Rigolets this Saturday for the first time. I knew the wind was gonna be bad but it didn't stop me. My wife had a great time, she caught a few reds but they were too small to keep. I didn't get any trout b/c I gave up on the jigs with the wind. Did manage to catch this red which made our day and trip worth the while.
Thanks again.
Does anyone mind giving me directions to a boat launch in Slidell? I'm wanting to take my wife to Pontchartrain to experience some trout fishing. I'm not familiar with the Lake and will probably fish not too far from wherever I put in. I'm coming from Denham and will be coming down I-12. Any launch really, will be greatly appreciated. Somewhere where I will not have to go too far out into open water. A few fellas on this site recommended the Rigolets or the Causeway. Also, is the trout bite more prominent in the morning or could I get out there by at least 8 or 9 and still have a chance? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
Hey Guys,
Thought I would post this to make sure a replacement is necessary. My boat recently started leaking pretty significantly. It's a fiberglass bass boat fyi... The first thing I did was put the plug in and put some water in it to find the leak. I noticed water was trickling out of my aerator, not around the thru-hull inlet. It was coming thru the actual inlet. I've had the boat for three years and the pump doesn't too look bad. My first thought is to just replace the pump. I think it's the mayfair brand that bass pro carries, not expensive. Just thought I would see if anyone has had an issue like this. Thanks for any advice.
Does anyone know of an upholstery repair shop for my boat seats that they would recommend? Somewhere close to Baton Rouge.
I am looking to head out this weekend to find some bass. Anyone have any tips on any locations near Denham? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Hey guys I need some serious help. I live in Denham and usually fish the amite only b/c it's close. Like all of us I work a lot and really dont have the time or gas money to just drive around clueless looking for boat launches. I'm trying to find some places to catch some bass. I read the post on this site everyday for help but I don't know where these locations are they everyone talk about. They are usually referred to by names that aren't searchable on the web. Can anyone "PLEASE" give me some advice on any locations reasonably close that would be worth the gas money? I'm not asking for any honey holes just some simple directions to some launches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know of any boat repair shops around the Denham Springs area that they would recommend? It is for a mercury force outboard. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
I am a new resident of the Denham Springs area. I'm from N. Louisiana and have grown up bass fishing. I have a 16/1.5ft. Vip Stealth with a 120 force. I am interested in trying some saltwater fishing around W. or N. Coast of the Pontchartrain due to the smaller size of my boat. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on where is a good place to launch and any quick tips on what to fish with and where to go? From viewing all the post on this site and others, yall have got me interested in some saltwater fishing. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
I over exposed the pic a little and it looks like a bear snout like noted above. Hope you don't mind me editing the pic, I can take down if need be.
Red,
I will throw my 16.5' in there also, maybe we can get a group discount. Please post or email if you find out anything. Thanks.
Hey man, that was a great post...good information. I have fished that area a few times, there were plenty of smaller bass but the big uns were few and far between. Good to see some size. As far as how far up to go towards I-12, I have a 17ft. fiberglass with a 120 and I go up to the big sandbar with ease. I haven't been any further, not sure if that is were yall are talking about.
nice catch, who all went?
Hey Coot,
I have never heard of that before with a dog but I hope for the best.
Just a heads up that this lake is full of stumps. There is a main boat channel that is wide and clear which covers a large portion of the lake. Since you are staying at the state park, head back to the boat launch that is right at the store on the bottom of the hill. The channel is right there when you put in, it runs along the houses on the right or under the bridge. Right around that bridge is where they tear up the sac-a-lait, deepest part of the channel. Go down the boat run (away from the state park) and look for any channels off to the left. You should be able to tear up the bream along those banks. You can also catch some good bass along the docks and piers. My main advice is if you're not on the main boat run go very slow. I usually troll when I get off the channel. Be aware of the stumps.
Seriously, the catch and release comments are an old topic. Save your breath and typing for somewhere else. Also, which fish are you referring to that are full of eggs? I don't have the best vision but don't see any myself, if so Calcasieu River must have the late delayed spawn.
hey slab_jerker. I'm not too familiar with the red river in south la but we do fish the red in central la some after the spawn. We usually hit up the backs of oxbows with soft plastics or hit the points or any rocks with a deep diving crank baits. Hope this helps, let us know how you do!
hey oldcaster,
I don't have the items listed but I can throw in some money if needed. Just shhot me an email if I can help.
is that a trick question?
We went this past Sunday. The bass were killing the bream near the surface about 15yds. off the bank but they would not bite a thing. Between three and half of us (half being my wife) in two boats we only got one bite and we have a pretty good idea what we are doing. Talked to a few people and the bream action was slow. The only ones that caught a few were catching them in 4-6ft. Definitely fish the rocks near the spillway. The lake looked perfect. The locals told me to fish the north end. There was a small storm that rolled in that morning, only small sprinkles but maybe that's what changed everything. With all the good weather hopefully you will have some good luck. My wife and I are planning to camp up there soon, its beautiful. Let me know how you do. Hopefully you tear 'em up.
I will be fishing saturday morning also. Still trying to get in touch with my buddies and find out where is the best attack point. Maybe I can follow yall out to colfax, never launched up that way. I'm from the Alex. area but moved to Ruston for school and haven't been back too much to fish. Only get to hit up the River and Saline every now and then when I go home for Holidays. I like to fish the river this time of year, right after the bass spawn in most areas I can usually go to the river and fish on the points with a crankbait. My buddy launched near Marksville. He mentioned he fished the st. maurice area. Not to sure exactly where, never been there myself. I can find out more if you would like. They did catch a few in a short amount of time.
hey man, i'm going up to Alex to fish the same areas. My buddy went to the St. Maurice area in Marksville this past weekend and had some decent luck.I usually put in behind the buhlow airport or on the other side of the river by the hospital. Where do you usually fish.
I know it might be a little pricey but it's worth it in my opinion. I go with Optima yellow top. Built for rough vibration and you can't overcharge. They come with a 1 year replacement warranty and are pro-rated after 1 year. I can charge it on Friday and not use it for a week and it keeps it's charge. Just my opinion.
that's a nice mess you got there, some good eatin. Caney will put out some nice fish.
My opinion is 5 plus. We just recently took a trip to toledo and out of our group we had some 3's, 4's and 5's and that one is bigger than the 5's easy. I agree with the guys that said 6-7.
duckman, I was looking for the same info. Someone mentioned there is a launch about 3/4 of a mile from the Hwy. 11 bridge. He said it was torn down by Katrina but you still can launch there. I didn't make to that one b/c of the wind. My wife and I launched at the Rigolets launch which is close and it is a nice launch. I travel from Baton Rouge also and I think it took just a little over an hour. I traveled down I-12 to Slidell. This was my first trip to that area so others might be of better help. Email me if you would like the directions to both of those launches.
lsu1again,
Thanks for your response. I have a 17' fiberglass with a 120. It has a pretty deep hull for a bass boat. If it is as bad as you were mentioning I might reconsider.I was trying to find somewhere for tomorrow to catch a few trout. It doesn't have to necessarily be Slidell. I'm willing to drive an hour or so, make the day out of it.
Would you not do the same?
