Hello Capt. Paul,

I'm looking to outfit an 18 foot aluminum boat that gets used for a lot of different purposes with a decent GPS chart plotter and depth finder combo. I'll be using it for hunting and fishing in the Shell Beach and Hopedale area and wanted to know if you had any recommendations for a good all purpose unit with a budget maximum of $500. I know you get what you pay for, but is there anything in this price range that has good reliability and the ability to ad maps that do not come standard with most units? GPS is the first priority and using it as a depth finder second. What maps or cards would you consider essential for safety sake and for finding fish? I've been looking at some Lowrance and Garmin models but welcome any recommendations to steer me in the right direction. Thanks very much

Is the biloxi marsh area accessible by any other method than motor boat? Can you reach in by kayak under normal conditions? Thanks

Good advice, BigJim. Does anyone have experience with a kayak in pearl river wma? I was wondering if putting a kayak in anywhere gives you an advantage. It seems like the smaller creeks around the shooting range area/ hwy 11 are too full of stumps and branches for a kayak, but I was wondering if the waterways in the southern part of the wma might be more suitable for a boat than a kayak? Anybody having success with a pirogue or kayak?

Want to sell: Remington 7600 rifle in .270 win with two magazines, over 100 rounds of ammo (most of it is 130gr federal fusion, with some target rounds in 150gr), extra stock and butt pads, and a professionally done trigger job. Barrel is free-float and very accurate. The pump action is reliable and makes this gun very versatile. I take care of my weapons with regular cleaning and maintenance, and I can't say I've put more than 100 rounds through this rifle at the most because it's hunting gun. Great condition, no rust. Trigger is smooth and 2lb 10oz pull. I mailed the trigger group to a gunsmith who specializes in 7600's and he did not disappoint. If you're familiar with pump actions, you can fire this rifle almost as fast as any semi-auto, but with much better reliability and the accuracy of a free-floated barrel and good trigger job. It's a reliable hunting weapon, for everything from brush hunting pigs to big game at long range with a .270 you can do pretty much anything. Comes with the case in the pictures, comfortable sling, both stocks, regular synthetic or pistol grip, and any extra butt pads I can find, as well as mags and ammo. It has a Remington Supercell butt pad on it now that I find eliminates a lot of the felt recoil. The scopes in the pictures are not included at this price, but I can include a Leupold Vx-1 3-9x40 for extra if you're interested, or have less expensive options. The iron sights are spot on. If you buy a scope, you will receive Leupold or Weaver rings with the purchase, you're choice. The Leupolds are the see-through type scope rings so you can look at the iron sights for close-range brush-gun type hunting, or look through the scope and reach out with the .270 win. I'm gonna regret selling this rifle, but it has to go as I don't have a hunting lease anymore. Cash only, located in the BR area but with limited travel to New Orleans area possible. No trades please, offers considered. Please email me through sportsman with your info and I will get back to you. Leave a phone number if you prefer to call or text. Thank you.

Barrel is free-floated and very accurate. Pump action is brutally reliable, the gun has never jammed and I take care of my weapons with regular cleaning and maintenance, though I can't say I've put more than 100 rounds through this rifle at the most because it's hunting gun. I tried a few different butt stocks to get the right length of pull for me, and it currently has the Remington Supercell on it that fits just right and makes the felt recoil about cut in half.
