I would be very appreciative if someone would give the fastest and safest directions from Doiron's Landing to Lake Verret. Thanks

Apple snails and their eggs were recently discovered in the canals in Luling. The canals ultimately drain into the Lake Cataouatche basin. These things will eat out the grass in the blink of an eye. We are just now getting some nice grass beds back. If you see the pink eggs over the water, please take the time to knock them into the water where they will die. You mainly see these eggs in the spring.

Thanks

I made a fishing trip to Lake Boeuf yesterday and was shocked at the amount of open water due to apple snails consuming the grass. Also, there were eggs hanging over the water all over the lake. If these things spread they will wreck havoc on a lot of areas in Louisiana. Does the LDWF have a plan to kill or at least slow down these things?

That's a good question AC. I was contacted by the CCA a few months ago to invite me as a member. They know that I belong to quite a few organizations locally and nationally. I told them that I would join their organization if they would take a stand on
fishing access to tidal waters. An official with CCA called me back and said this was a very complicated issue. That's it! Apparently they have wealthy landowners among their ranks who don't want to get involved.
It is amazing that Louisiana is the only state with non-access laws.

Mandevillian,

I know I am going to catch a lot flack for this post but I can no longer sit back anymore. I too have hunted Big branch for at least 40 years with mixed results. What I have really enjoyed about the area is that I can paddle in and do a fair job of getting away from people. I can't remember you posting so many times this year or ever posting in the past. I also have never seen as many people in the area I hunt as I have seen in the past. While hunting last week I met up with 2 hunters and asked them if they killed anything. They were set up in an area I usually hunt and this hurt because this is the first time I've seen them or anybody else in this spot. They went on to say that they have been reading about a guy on the Sportsman blog that posts about Big branch all the time so they thought they would give it a try. I am all for helping people enjoy themselves in the great outdoors but I usually reserve this knowledge to my family and close friends. Remember, this is PUBLIC land. It is similar to a bass fisherman constantly reporting about fishing in Bayou Lacombe. Guides or hunters on a private lease don't have this problem. Sometimes less is more.

With all the work going on around Lake Leary it would make things a little tough right now. FYI, the launch on the other side of the wall is open. As far as getting permission, Mike Benge of Delacroix Corp. is very accommodating.

I would like to see a tournament circuit alternating between Caernarvon and Bayou Bienvenue like we used to have for many years. The last circuit was out of the private launch in Caernarvon under Media Bass. All had a very good time!
