The wind slowed up enough for my wife and I to get out front again. The bite was slower this time but the trout we caught were bigger. The water was dirty. The opening night did not get action this time. The big boys fell for the 3 inch tsunami swim bait. The tuxedo color. The light weight one. They all had empty stomachs
We caught limits out front. No marsh fish. These gulf trout are opening night plastic. Light 1/8 jig head. With real slow steady retrieve. It's a banner latter half of 2014
All four of these baits produce this time of year. Use common sence on when and where
I am in the belief that many trout move north to the marsh but some stay along the coast all year. We caught some nice fish at the Fourchon Barges this weekend. Free lining live shrimp and pogies. Caught plenty reds in the mix. On my drive north early this morning I saw many diving birds all over Leeville area. Plenty of school trout there.
Friday and Saturday we caught Pogies and caught nice trout at the rock jetties but the bite was real sluggish with a slow outgoing tide. Chris,Ricky, Kurk and I had a good time Saturday afternoon. Sunday I drove to a spot on the side of La 1 near Fourchon and caught a few trout and flounder but on my drive back to BR I saw several buches of diving birds in bayou Lafourche just north of Bobby Lynn's in Leeville so I pulled over.I tossed an opening night with a quarter ounce jig head and caught 5 trout in 5 cast. Some were really nice. I had to leave them busting shrimp. Fish the birds for fast action from Leeville to Grand Isle
September and October is a great time to get some nice trout and plenty of Reds on Grand Isle. Live bait surely wil increase your odds on the trout if you can get it. When the wind finally slowed down from 20 mph to 5 mph I got out front with shrimp the first day and caught live pogies the second day which produced some very nice trout.
Grand isle trout bite is some of the best of the summer now. I caught limit on trout with live shrimp yesterday and today limit on live pogey. The trout on the pogey were nice.the biggest at 4 lbs. After trout limit today I went get mangrove. Grand Isle is so unique.
20 mph wind and still had good bite on the inside islands and several bull reds we turned loose but the hottest action was was when the wind slowed , we got on the jetties with live shrimp. The bait stealers were not there for a change. No real big trout but in 2 hrs we had a load. I think September will be great if winds die down.
Trout bite for me was the best on live pogies . If you use live shrimp the bait snatchers would get you. The beach has a lot of School trout and white trout. The nice trout are caught on pogies. I could not get them to eat croaker . The nice mangrove caught on croaker are in deeper water .
The trout action has been good on the inside for a good change. Not real big but big numbers of keepers and many caught on plastic. I went offshore 2 days in a row and caught beautiful Red Snapper,Mangrove,Lemon and Amberjack .Plenty of Yelowfin being caught especially at night.
Good trout bite even with west wind. We had several limits. The barges at Fourchon had lots of trout. Even caught some on plastic. First of the summer on plastic. They did not want croaker. Bring a lot of live shrimp because there are many undesirables along with trout.
The rain was constant for the weekend but when we got a break the trout are biting. You have to be patient and work for them but they are there. Small fish in the bay and upfront 2,to 4 lbs fish are being caught. Live shrimp still the ticket. A lot of unwanted fish eating the shrimp too. Bring 75 shrimp per angler.!
On vacation this week so fishing hard and offshore snapper on fire. We fishing close to southwest past. Live pogies or croaker for Mangrove and frozen pogies for the red snapper. Calm seas have been the ticket. The mangrove are around 15 to 40 feet. U need lightest weight you can get away with and small circle hook. We had limits 2 days in a row.
We gave the trout a break. Limits on mangrove and 3 cobia. The weather is perfect and the mangrove are thick around the 100 block Ann Leblanc and J Lynn Vidrine
There is so much bait in Grand Isle that you must have live bait and some days even that does not work. I have had great days. With big trout and a few very lean days. I have reports of trout being caught way in the marsh like its April. The rocks from Grand Isle to Timbalier are holding big trout. They get spooked easy when anglers run outboards where they should be on troll motor. The beach is holding fish real early morning if water clear. George Huey, my wife and I put together a 5 fish stringer 27 Lbs, for ABC rodeo. The big girls are there!
BLESSED WE WERE FOR THE RODEO. MY TEAM GOT 1ST AND 2ND 5 TROUT STRINGER WITH OVER 22LBS AND 18LBS. WE GOT BIG TROUT 1ST AND 1ST LADIES BIG TROUT AND 3RD PLACE REDFISH. IT ALL ADDED UP TO ALL AROUND BEST INSHORE BOAT. THANKS TO ALL MY BEATN BANGIN TEAM MATES AND A GREAT DECK HAND KURK FLEMING. THE BIG TROUT ARE STILL AROUND ROCK JETTIES AND OUR BEST BITE WAS BIG LIVE SHRIMP.THE CROAKER DID NOT PRODUCE. THE BEACH AT ELMERS TO FOURCHON IS GETTING HOT IF YOU CAN GET SOME DECENT WATER CLARITY. MOST OF THOSE BEACH TROUT WERE SMALLER, LIKE 12 TO 18 INCHES BUT THEY WERE STACKED UP. THE SNAPPER WERE IN 200 FT OF WATER.WE DID GET 4 NICE MANGROVES SO THATS A GOOD SIGN. THE REDFISH WERE EVERY WHERE. THE WATER WAS SOO CLEAR THAT THE MACKEREL WERE A PAIN.
We had a great weekend of fishing, but I want to tell you about my service from Redmond Marine in Lafayette. I have a 2014 Nautic Star and like all new boats you got to get the kinks out in the first 6 months. This is the second time they came to Baton Rouge to pick it up from my drive way. The dealer here said he would not do warranty work because I did not get it there. I got a great price and the best service in my 25 years of having boats. I love my boat and my dealer Redmond Marine. The last time he delivered it back in 4 days!
I HAVE A CAMP IN THE MARSH OF GRAND ISLE AND EVERY WINTER WE SEE MANY DEAD PELICANS. NO ONE KNOWS HOW THEY DIE.
The wind might play hell with the tide and the bite this weekend. The tide charts on this site are pretty accurate but wind can change it depending on direction and speed. If you can find a day with 5 to 10 mph wind and get live shrimp or pogy and fish around 1 hour before and 1 hour after the tide change, I believe you can have success. Good Luck.
Yes, I caught these at the Caminada Jetties on live pogey. The bait stealers were back so the shrimp did not work well. When the water is that clear the little shrimp eaters will find it easy and kill it. The pogey is best in those clear conditions. I had to work hard to get the right size pogey.Alot of cast netting but it was worth it. The trout came to the top and I could watch them smoke it!
These were at Caminada but the day before wind was 20 mph and we caught them in the marsh islands behind game warden station
I caught some small trout in surf but the nice trout came from jetties at Belle Pass and Caminada on live pogies. The bait stealers are no problem when you have a 3 to 4 inch free line menhaden on.
I just realized that this trout has only a few specks. Really rare for a big one!
No Cody, I only go there in fall and winter. I like to fish in the passes and sometime the beach.
Makes me proud to be American
That is so true Cap.
when I was cast netting for my bait last weekend, I saw many crabs running near the beach so maybe you could do well if we can get some calm surf.
I like to share my knowledge and give back . God has been very good to me in the recent years. Good Luck and God Bless the fishing in Grand Isle!
I have had a great spring and summer on big trout. The conditions have to be right. You can run your outboard 20 feet from where your targeted fishing area is. You don t ever need to throw an anchor and you need to learn free lining. There are pogies everywhere on any given day and plenty shrimp and croaker i am catching in my cast net. There will be days when the trout just do not feed. You have to find good tide and wind with the right bait. I have caught more trout over 5 lbs this year than ever before. Tony,I will take you to the big trout! I had 5 trout stringer Saturday for ABC rodeo at sandollar that weighed 27 lbs. I love Grand Isle and i think we will be fine. You might have to work smarter and harder. I share my methods on this site for free.
Croaker are too small for me. If I can get the right size pogies, that is my best bait but I like the big brown shrimp
sunscreen will also kill ur bait. Don t put ur hands in the well. Use a bait net
I just got my boat back from Redmond and everything was done as promised and a little extra. If you buy a boat there, you won t regret it. I love the electric shift, well worth the extra money, and I love the ride in rough water.the 2014 hull is really special. THE DEALER IS AQUA MARINE IN DENHAM.I SPOKE TO THE OWNER ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, HE SAID HIS INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER ME BECAUSE I DID NOT BUY WITH HIM.WHAT A JOKE!
Watch Paradise La show the next 2 weeks and you will see exactly.
Sometimes the reds stack up there but I am blessed to have several days to fish it if the wind permits. The sheepshead and mangrove can run u out too
We caught the big girls at the rocks at Caminada in rough conditions
No South east towards venice.
Yes
