Coming next Monday to fish Tues through Sat then going home Sunday. If you're in the area, come look me up. I'll be staying in Galliano but fishing out of Port Fourchon. Can't miss my Blue/Gray Tracker boat with handicap rails with TN registration ;)

Might get out on my buddy's 30ft bay boat to fish some rigs Fri/Sat if it ain't rough out there.

Gonna explore the area more. Before October, I had my buddy's boys take me out on the skiff, didn't have to pay attention too much on where we were going but learned enough to get around a little.

Generally I wouldn't post something like this, but I know some of you guys might be looking for great deals for onboard battery chargers. Use the code MISOPP at the Genius web site for 50% off anything

But if you need a 4 bank charger, then its cheaper than 50% off at Amazon

right now they are out of stock, wait time is about 2-3 weeks. Got lucky and the Gen3 arrived, still waiting on my Gen2

This video is only about 3-4 final minutes of a 30+ min fight with a big stingray. Most of the fight was done by the guy on the video. I was fishing Port Fourchon near the jetties and I had the spare pole out with a live mullet on it. I was prepping another rod when suddenly the drag start screaming and I hooked up. I couldn't stop it until I really cranked down the drag but by then it had tore off almost 200 yards of braided 120lb test line. I fought it for 5 or so minutes before I gave out and this guy Mark (skippers cousin) took over and he fought it for 20 minutes and I took another round at it for another 5 minutes and then he took it back. The other guy in the video was his brother in law. In the video you'll see a couple of bean bags. We had run offshore about a mile and he got sick and couldn't move and he stayed there until towards the end of the stingray fight when he finally was able to recover and help.

This was fun and I definitely want the same rod and reel our skipper had (friend of mine).

Kenny Boy went back out today and once again tore them up at Lake Merchant. Didn't talk to him by phone today so don't have any details of his catches other than what he said in the email, which wasn't much. Pics speak for themselves I guess :)

5 reds and 6 trout

October 30, 2013 at 10:06pm

Kenny Boy is one of the guys who helped tow me to the dock when my prop shaft broke. Posting this on his behalf since he has a company computer and can't post, but he can read posts. We've become good friends so not gonna review where exactly he caught them, just the lake.

Sunday 10-28-13 he goes out and catches his limit of trout and a few redfish. Sure wished I was fishing with him. So I'll post the pics he sent me.

Well made my last fishing run of this year before heading home to Smyrna TN (just outside Nashville). Only caught 2 nice trout and a nice red and called it a day but holy smokes it was COLD. I almost needed a warmer jacket. Run off and forgot to load my tackle bags so I knew I was in trouble. Went to sister lake area that I've come to like in a little canal. Lost one of my cajun anchors (clevis pin come undone) so that was $70 thrown away. Missed a NICE bull red that hit a minnow. Broke a brand new spinning reel so its going back to BPS for a replacement.

Guys might remember that Derrick at Evolution Marine got me going Thursday after I broke a prop shaft on a brand new motor. Can't say enough of those people in Houma and Morgan City. My fishing trip would have been ruined if it hadn't been for them to get me going again. Now the new prop is getting me into the right WOT rpms. Before on either prop, best I could do was 5400 rpm and 32mph, now its 6000 rpm and still 32mph but hole shot is quicker.

Kenny Boy, thanks man for the hospitality and I'll see you next year as well as CatchDat (Elton), I do intend on using you again next spring soon as I pay all these credit card bills off :( but you gotta pay to play.

For everyone else I met at Jugs Seafood Landing, thanks for your help and friendship. See ya next year. (april/may then Oct/Nov)

Finally at long last, I've managed to get an item on my wishlist before I die things done. Finally caught a bull redfish and the bonus was a couple of Cobia's, aka ling or lemon fish. Redfish was 18lbs, we didn't get a measurement but it was over 26 inches. The cobia's were 20 and 25lbs. My friend who has a camp in Port Fourchon took us (his relatives) one of whom was an 80 year old Korean war veteran who served 33 years.

Also had a very unique experience. My buddy's wife as well as I hooked the same redfish. She was on the bow port side and I was on the aft starboard side. She was fishing straight down and I had tossed a Gulp Alive Gray Crab towards the rig. I was letting mine drift back to me when I felt a tap tap and set the hook (2nd red) and the fight was on but shortlived. When we got the redfish on board, it not only had my crab in his mouth but her hook as well, our hooks were almost side by side in the upper lip. Even got a picture of it.

Near the jetties, we hooked into a very large stingray, I've got a short section of video where we finally got eyes on it before it broke the 120lb line, it was HUGE, caught on a live mullet (well hung on a mullet, not caught) LOL. Cobia's were caught on live mullet too that I caught in a cast neck at the dock. They came in handy.

To everyone I met in the DU area, thanks for the friendship, it was much appreciated. Also found a good place to stay in Port Fourchon area - Galliano Inn, nice handicap room with wheelchair access and roll in shower. Now my wife can come too even though she can't get on a boat. See you guys next year for sure.

October 22, 2013 at 9:12pm

Well I got a really early start but I mostly explored and decided to fish a spot I first found back in September. Very very slow but was catching trout although most were small. I kept losing bait initially and finally decided to go with my Gulp Alive shrimp in a copper color and I started getting good hits and catching mostly small trout. Had 3 keepers. But the day got worst. I was heading south of Lake Merchant from the north end and got within a mile of my turn off to fish another area. I was trucking along at 25mph in 3 or 4 ft of water (was a little rough) when suddenly I felt like I lost a prop. I knew my new SS prop was on corretly and tight so thought something might have got caught in the prop but no go, raised the motor, sure enough I can't see the prop.

So used the trolling motor to find the opening to get me back in the canal so hopefully somebody could tow me back to Jugs Seafood landing. Almost 2 hours of fighting a head wind and I just made it to the canal when I spotted a couple of guys fishing. They were gracious enough to tow me in part way and handed me off to an oyster boat going to the docks to unload. Their at their docks I met Kenny Boy who is a lurker of the forums and he helped me back to the landing and helped get the boat on the trailer.

That's when I noticed I was missing a main piece of equipment - the prop shaft was twisted off. No damage to the lower unit as I knew I didn't feel any vibrations and didn't feel I hit anything, just lost momentum and the motor revved up.

I didn't get the names of the first guys who towed me part way but I did get a picture of Kenny Boy and I gave him my 3 trout as I sure wasn't in the mood then to deal with them. Well off to see Evolution Marine in Houma in the morning to see what I can do, or I might be going home earlier than planned.

I want to thank everyone for their help and I discovered that there are a LOT of forum lurkers out there, don't be bashful, sign on, make a difference ;)

So at least I'd made another friend, now I don't have to fish alone and maybe I won't have to haul my boat. Now if I could just get lucky and win a LITTLE lottery so I can get one of those nice center console boats like CatchDat, Marty and them has. Better yet so I could afford more trips to learn the area better, maybe Kenny can show me around. I'll be back in April or early May. I still got LOTS of area to cover and learn.

October 16, 2013 at 11:38pm

I want to thank EVERYBODY on advice etc. I went down on Tues 9/10. Spent Wed scouting Dulac/Theriot/Dularge area for launches, fees etc. Thursday launched from Falgoust Marina and went across Lake Decade towards Lost Lake somewhere. Didn't do any good. Exploring the area mostly. Friday I slept in and browse Google Earth for areas to fish launching from Jugs Seafood down the road (almost the end of Hwy 315) and saw some spots I wanted to try. So Saturday morning I'm up at 4:15am, finally launch at 6:30 am and went down the canal about 8 miles or so and turned off to the left into some bay that had 2 small canals. Tried fishing the mount of one and no luck other than hard heads and sail cats. Finally moved to the 2nd canal and was going to try and find my way to Bayou Dularge but I found a hole that looked promising. So I set camp with my cajun anchor and for almost an hour, it was the same thing UNTIL I finally caught what I think was a lady fish. Used it for bait and caught a small speckled trout on a piece of cut bait. That got my hopes up, so changed to a popping cork with a chartreuse jig and tipped it with a piece of shrimp. Bam, got a redfish, so now I turn to the small canal as tide was now going out. Bam, got a speck (nice one), then another. Threw back to the hole I was in and landed near the grass and pop, redfish on.

It was then about that time I saw 2 nice redfish about 10lbs each just cruise by the boat. By the end of the day (9 straight hours of fishing) I had broke a rod and broke the spinning reel completely off the other fighting a good red but he got off. Hard to reel holding the broken part and cranking the handle LOL. I was burnt, happy and wore out. Lady at Jugs Seafood said a lot of people came back with nothing, so I felt good with my 2 really good trout (3lbs each) and 2 reds of 18 and 21 inches. Not bad for a TN geezer who didn't know the area.

Well ready or not here I come to explore new terrority while I wait on a friend to go to his camp at Port Fourchon. His boys have until now taken me on their boat but its always been hard on my knees/legs (I'm handicapped). I sure do miss living in Lafayette/Abbeville area and fishing out of Intercoastal City back in the early 80's.

This time I'm planning on exploring Cocodrie and other areas around Dulac as I'll be staying at a hotel in Houma Sept 10-15, Oct 1-7 and Oct 15-21 (hoping to go with a friend offshore for Red Snapper). I'm taking my 17ft pro 175TF handicapped rigged bassboat for marsh fishing. Also gonna try out Catfish Lake at least one time. Gonna get some reds and try them on the half shell so to speak (on a grill) and hoping I can get some amberjack or cuts of other bigger fish (love those fish steaks last year).

I'll post pics of whatever I catch. I forgot who that was that gave me detailed instructions of how to get to the Catfish Lake launch ramp, but thank you SO much for that info (back in the spring)

I was at the pass myself in my blue bass rig. Had one bite off the oyster bed. My transducer had caught on something and kicked up, so didn't want to chance getting stranded in shallow water with the gale force winds. I gave up by noon, as 4:30 am came too early when not sleeping good. Gonna try again tomorrow later in the day and hopefully WARMER, its colder down here than it was when I left TN (80). Don't mind a little wind but as Gran Pass it was WICKED LOL.

Now that is neat. Glad to see he's out doing it. I'll be there 1st week of May but hoping to fill up on speckled trout but I wouldn't pass up catching a bull red or two in shallow water.

Not bad, not bad at all. Been over a year since I've been down there and finally dragging the wife along as she finally retired. Medical problems have kept me home way too long and I'm itching to get some of the trout myself. Love it when the youngin's get to play. Your brother will remember the good times with you later in life I Gawr-On-Tee. :)

Loved hearing that. But my old body didn't want to cooperate keeping me in the dumps and the VA hospital system. Had heart surgery #14 in Jan and hopefully getting out again today. Looks like they'll finally fix my knees too so things looking up to where I can get back down to Dularge (Houma) - really LOVE the food there (wife loves it there too) and I love fishing Dularge although I'm still learning it. Love fishing Port Fourchon marshes too. Only made one trip and it was a bust the whole week I was there. Love seeing the pics you guys show of the catches. Hoping to be down by October at least once. Not dead yet, so gotta get my fishing in sometime LOL.

Darn NICE CATCH - wish they were in my ice box right now with some being fried up. LOL

Been a while since I've been on. Only managed trip back in April. This year hasn't been good for me, hospital etc and will soon have more heart surgery. Not allowed to drive now until the procedures are done, but hoping to make it in October. Night fishing sounds like the ticket for this time of year when its HOT down there ;) Sure am missing the action down there :)

Decided to skip Houma early this year and go straight to Port Fourchon to hopefully put some smack on some trout. Still got plenty of redfish in the freezer, its been way too cold to grill but warming up this weekend so hoping some grilling will be going on then. Coming next week for a week with my little bass boat.
