Cool autumn weather is turning on whitetail deer throughout much of the country, as bucks are making scrapes, seeking does, and about to square off to other bucks crowding in on their territory.

Autumn bait migrations are underway, and with them follow all manner of predators, including redfish, trout, flounder, snook, tarpon and many more. This school of slot-size redfish paused under a dock light looking for baitfish that were holding nearby. Think they might jump on a streamer fly, popping plug or a live bait?

This longnose gar hit a 1/4-ounce jig used with medium spin tackle and 12-pound braided line intended for other species, and put on a tough fight, complete with jumps and head thrashing. The toothy gar was released unharmed, at was estimated at nearly 5 feet in length, weighing 20 to 25 pounds.

Yep, it's still summer, but this NE Florida VERY nice buck is rubbing his rack against saplings, and is looking very hard at the ladies in his neighborhood. Scrapes also are popping up throughout much of NE Florida.....and it's still hot and wet and muggy. Go figure.

This is a 3 pound WILD bass taking a live shiner that's feeding on plankton at the surface. Note the spotted gar to the left side of the bass.

Catching fiddlers is an art, and check to buy at bait shop.

Yes, sheepshead on the half shell, like redfish, are excellent...tho much harder to fillet until they're 3-5 lbs.
