Really wanted to go after redfish but there were so many birds diving in bayou terrebonne and all the waterways east we couldn't help but to stop and fish. Lots of undersized trout but wound up with 16 keepers all on plastics under a cork. After the birds quit diving we started hitting the shorelines of bayous with fresh shrimp under a cork and tsunami swim baits and got 6 keeper reds. The marsh is loaded with shrimp and fish right now, just follow the birds.
About 15 years ago a friend took me catfishing next to a grain elevator on the Mississippi River somewhere between Baton Rouge and Donaldsonville. He drove his truck all the way down to the river and we filled an ice chest. I went back a few months later and two guys on a golf cart told me I couldn't fish on the grain elevator property and I haven't been back since.
I would like to take my daughter to catch some catfish. Anybody know of any spots like this that can be fished from the bank or can you only fish them by boat? Or are there any of the bar pits not on private property that can be fished with a small bateau? Thanks
Took the skiff out this morning with my brother to burn some old gas out. Launched in the Amite River south of Denham Springs and set out a trot line and a couple of jugs. Only got a turtle on the trot line and this unpleasant surprise on one of my jugs.
Anybody know where I can get the lid of an ice chest that doubles as a seat recovered around Baton Rouge?
Fished out of Hopedale yesterday with my Dad, Uncle and Cousin. Weather man was way off. Got soaked when storms blew through around 8 and winds picked up to 15-20mph for the rest of the day. Hit a bunch of spots in muscle bay, stump lagoon, Pete's lagoon, ponds off spoil canal and bayou south of lagoon Brady. Caught about 10 specks but only 2 hit the ice. Kept 3 drum and 3 sheephead. Hard falling tide all day, probably the clearest water I've ever seen in hopedale. Water temp was between 57-60.
Fished out of BSM yesterday off of spoil canal. Caught a 26' red right off the bat then nothing for a while. Ended up picking up one speck and a drum. All caught on tsunami holographic swim baits.
