Seems like a low number for the greys doesn't it, want to remember in years past we had many many more than that...
Pearl River is full of ducks, but more people than anything else. We used to hunt there exclusively, now just hunt last 2 weeks of season when most people get tired of jockeying for position. Game warden told me he started patrolling week before opening to show presence, wrote more tickets first 2 weekends than ever in his career. Please be safe, I am more worried about people without lights on boats than I am logs. Good luck.
Mandy, That came out great, Congrats!
Mandy, I hope you get em, let us know.
Oh Mandy, As you already know 90% of these people don't know what they are doing, wind to the face, set up on wrong side island, call when they shouldn't, its kind of like sitting at the boat launch, we enjoy the show. Let em come, as long as they don't run the mud boats out there they will watch us do the killing (we believe the noise of the mud boats do more harm than the pressure). I just as soon drop a pin, went fishing out there this morning was a group set up on same island we were yesterday, had 3 spinning wings going, shot 2 ducks. Like I said, we used diff decoys and no spinning wings, different calls and do it at the proper time. I get the feeling you would do well over by us.
Mandy, I completely agree with your philosophy trying to get away from the other hunters, but right off of Bayou Liberty in Big Branch is outstanding hunting right now. We have limited every hunt , yesterday we had 5 people in the blind. Just a friendly note from a fellow duck hunter.
Mandi, you are a die hard, great to see people who truly love the outdoors...
Gotta love the sign says no fishing or crabbing by the launch, when ask people to move their lines they look at you like you have two heads, contacted LWF, they told me, They want people to be out and about right now... Good luck, if you like crowds great place to go!
United Charters capt Rory catches a lot of fish out of Shell Beach Big O Charters capt Britt catches lots of fish out of Hopedale Good Luck
Our numbers were not down, but saw a decrease in the number of greys and increase in the number of teal. Have a lease in Delacroix, hunt there both opening weekends, but public land the rest of the season. Did make 7 less hunts this year due to the greys not wanting to work. Still looking forward to next year...
not asking your exact spot, what area are you fishing? Hopedale..DU
Hunted big branch this morning, good amount of shooting early, then not much after. Good flight at day break, then a long sit after that...
Guys, hang in there, been able to scout every Friday, shooting good numbers of ducks, but moving around. The days of having a lease and hunting it every weekend like Flat Point are over...Headed to St Joseph this week, have a client with property up there, supposed to be some green heads Going to El Campo Tx in 2 weeks, they are having best year in last 5 this year, that's why I raised the question on the flyway changing Shoot straight
Guys, just a question, I think the flyway is changing, where are all the snows? they are increasing in numbers and although I haven't killed many here, used to see them flying every morning I would hunt. What are your thoughts on the flyway moving??
Mandevillian, Heard some really good reports from Big Branch near Lacombe, isn't that pretty close to you? Not sure if you are familiar with that area, it is easily accessible...
I believe its a hog, but a big one for sure!!!
Thanks for sharing, that is really interesting...
Went this morning to a pond that was holding A LOT of ducks last weekend. Had 4 people total, ended with 15 (9 greys, 2 widgeon, 4 teal), thought all the scouting I did last weekend would pay off a little better, but since this year did not turn out as expected, rinsed the decoys and accessories and will put them away tonight.
Thanks to everyone for their posts, I will keep my fingers crossed all summer!
Yes more in Arkansas, then Minn, and Texas. I am a meat hunter, the bands just add jingle to the calls. I do like to get the certificate telling where the bird was banded, always interesting. I have taken several turkeys in the local management, never a banded one though.
The salvinia is a huge problem here, more so in Canarvon and Delacroix in the places that I hunt. I hunt closer to the lake in big branch and have not had the same problem. Probably from the amount of people running through there.
Good luck, I enjoy your posts, keep it up.
seems like a really low number of greys, seems in years past the number was much higher.?.?
