Me and the wife made a quick trip the other day. We both so busy that we hardly ever get go together anymore. She hasn't lost her touch of course because I may have caught more but every fish she caught was bigger than mine. The bite was kinda slow and most where caught on California 420 lizards and crawfish colored jigs with speedcraw trailers.
Well the weather was horrible Saturday as the cold front blew in. It was raining off and on so we went to some friends to cook. Me and my buddy got through bbqing and still had about 2 hours of daylight so we decided to hell with the rain and went bass fishing on my lease. It was slow the first hour and I had picked up one or two as did he. The rain stopped and they came alive. I was using a jig which has became my number one bait since I started using then about 3 years ago. He never fished with one and struggled getting the hang of it but I ended up catching around 15 to his 3 on a infringer spinnerbait. Lol he said he's definitely going to start practicing with em from now on. I love catching fish on a jig. The fish should be laying out eggs soon how it looks.
Took the wife and kids fishing this weekend with some shiners. It was non-stop action for my kids. Just as fast as they could cast they were getting bites. I bass fished a little when I had a chance and caught 5 pretty quick on a black and blue jig with speedcraw trailer. White perch were caught fishing about 16' deep under a cork.. Every trip has gotten a little bit better and better.
Went Sunday evening with my kids and caught a few bass and a nice white perch on a crankbait.
Had a chance to go make a trip today with my wife. We did pretty good for the first trip. Caught most on California 420 and a black and blue jig. Looking forward to this weekend the water is going down and the fish are moving up. Good luck to y'all.
Took my daughter to a stand where we been getting video of a good buck making scrapes. I really didn't expect that 10 minutes after daylight he would show up but he did and she couldn't get on him in time before he got across the lane. We sat tight and at 8:32 I seen his horns cone out the woods I hurried up and got the gun out the window and told sister to get on him, she got ready and i did a lil whistle and nothing he kept walking,so I whistled pretty loud and he locked up broadside and sister touched her off. He almost went down but made it out the lane. My wife and boys were in the woods squirrel hunting so we went and got them and all trailed him up. Super proud of my baby girl.
Been bringing my kids frogging here and there on my lease since the water fell. Been doing pretty good even though they let more get away than they catch. Sure is fun watching em try oh.
Me and a buddy made a trip the other day after work. We were jigging banks for flounder. Still a little fresh where we were due to all the rain here lately. We caught a few bass early then found a bank that was holding some flounder. We kept 4 slabs over 15' and turned loose 7 under that. I've always been a bass fisherman but I have to say them suckers sure can fight good. Good luck
Don't know if this will work or not but worth a try. I was looking for a hunting lease that might be interested in letting me pay half the dues and hog hunt with dogs on. I am president of SouthSide hunting club in Starks on Sabine river and here the last two years high water (Toledo Bend) has kept us from hunting. I am just trying to have another place to go. I only want to hunt from the end of deer season to the end of July. That way dont bother deer hunters. I don't use a gun and will bring out every hog we catch. I will treat the land just like mine and not touch anyone's property and follow all rules without any problems. I just need another place to hunt my dogs . My dogs are trash broke and anyone on the lease is welcome to hunt with me. Only request is no guns. My dogs are too important to me. If anyone is interested please call or text me at 337-488-9370. I work construction so a text might get a call back faster. Don't know if anyone is interested but its worth a try. Thank yall and be safe.
This hog had been coming to the feeder regularly. Finally got some time to go try him and had a great night. We turned our 2 best dogs out and they hunted great. Ended up baying him in a thicket and I eased in with my 44 magnum and sealed the deal. It was alot harder to get him out the woods than to kill him,but we managed and it took 3 coolers to hold all the meat. He was definitely the fattest Barr I've ever killed.
I was just curious if anyone had ever made a knife..? An old welder at work gave me a German made air saw blade so I took some time and cut it out for a knife... I didn't use a grinder at all because I didn't know if you should get the metal hot or not? I cut the blade out with a porta-band. Then put in a vise and used a file to lay back an edge. Then honed it with a wet-rock. Wish I would've used a deer horn for the handle. It gets very sharp but haven't got to cut meat yet to see if it will hold an edge. I thought it was fun to do at least and enjoyed it. Here's a picture of it finished. I might should have shortened it up some.
I caught and cut this hog about 4 years ago behind my house. He has showed back up and has put on some weight. All I am waiting on now is a day off and then I'm bring my best dog and 2 bulldogs down there and see I we can't pay him a little visit. I guess he didn't get the memo the corn is for deer only.. Good hunting guys. Hopefully I will have more pics soon of him hanging from the tree.
Well with deer season ending its time for some fast paced action. Me and my wife took the dogs out this weekend and stayed in the hogs. Ended up catching a sow, a gilt, and a real nice Barr hog we cut last year. Looking forward to this weekend. I always liked pork better than beef anyways!
Rifle season opened up Saturday morning and I hunted all weekend. I am the president of my hunting club and made a deal with myself this year to try to only kill 8pt or better only. I saw 2 small bucks(4pt and spike)that morning and couple does that evening. Sunday morning I watched a good buck cross by my wife's stand about 500 yds away. Then I watched a spike and 2 does for a while eating corn. So that evening I told my daughter to come on that she should be able to get a shot on a deer. Well we get set up around 5 and about 6:20 3 does come out. We get the gun out the window and I tell her to take her time and squeeze the trigger. She touches her off and I see the ol mule kick and the deer barely makes it across the pipeline. Man I swear I have never seen her so happy and excited in my life. She was shaking so bad and said she thought her heart was about to explode. She wanted to cry but she couldn't stop smiling to do it. We went down and I showed her how to take a blood trail slow all the way to her prize. Thank you lord for allowing us to have this opportunity in this fine state! Yall be safe.
This nice boar came up in my dads back yard trying to get in the pen with two sows he has for meat hogs. I brought my bulldog over there yesterday evening and sucked him up. He was a handful for me and my old dad( pretty much by myself)but I caught and cut him. My neighbor put him in a stock trailer for sausage later on.
Me and my wife went the other day after a rain and caught a few decent fish on swim jigs.
Been getting ready for bow season. Got alot of does and yearlings coming, also a couple young bucks running together. Good luck to yall opening morning lets hope we get a little cooler weather.
Toledo Bend finally decided to shut the rapids off. We fish the river (lakes off it) and its been flooded all year, but its falling out now. Me and my boy went and caught 6 keepers this evening pretty quick on black humdinger spinner baits. Its real muddy but they still was biting good. I just hope it stays down for a while. Oh yeah 5 of the 6 fish was full of crawfish. Gonna try my luck in the am. Good luck to yall!
Me and my youngest boy went out Sunday morning to have a lil fun. He thought he was the best fisherman in Louisiana. We caught a few small bass, ol gasper gou,and a few hybrid bass. It was awesome!
We live in Stark's Louisiana and our youth season started yesterday and we been preparing just like everyone else does. Our deer started scraping September 12 and we been getting plenty of Buck and doe pics at a scrape line parallel to the old pipeline we hunt. I knew we had a chance of seeing a deer as long as we hunted. We'll as luck has it last week I was put on 7-12s for 3 months. So byebye hunting season. Yesterday at dinner operations lost all power in the control room and sent us home. I couldn't get home fast enough to get Cody ready and get our butts in the woods. We got to the stand at 4:30 and settled in for the evening. We saw a few squirrels and then at 7 I caught a glimpse of a deer cutting through the tree's straight to our lane. I grabbed Cody's 223 single barrel and stuck it out the window. I told him get ready a deer is about to step out. We got ready and he came out about 80yds and stood broadside. I told him to put it on his shoulder and squeeze the trigger. He touched her off and the deer left there looking good my heart sank. We waited as long as we could and decided to go look. I saw where the deer left out and immediately picked up blood we waited a lil while and took up the trail. He went 40yds and piled up my son was so excited he couldn't move. We drug the 4pt out and loaded him up. Definitely one of the best days of our life. He is hooked for life with a case of Buck fever. I may never get to shoot again.
