Getting some pics of these healthy triplets. Also a set of twins nearby. The herd looks good.

This big guy went down at 9am this morning in Avoyelles Parish.

Nice 8pt with 17.5' inside spread. Might be 9pts, there's a small split brow tine.

The other pic was the instant he was shot. He jumped straight up into the air. The camera caught him coming down. His love interest is already 20yds away in the background.

What are your estimates on the age/size of this buck?

No mention of levees preventing replenishment from the Mississippi River, no mention of erosion. Typical fake news. We're trying to draw attention to this problem while CNN places the blame elsewhere. This misinformation obviously hurts our cause.

I figured out how to enable video on my trail camera and got this vid from last week.

These guys are all nocturnal. Can't wait for the rut.

Big surprise when I checked my game cams for the first time this year. A nice black bear and a few decent young bucks. Located a few miles north of Simmesport.

Sunday afternoon my 10 year old son and I were in the stand, hadn't seen anything all day. Just at last light we heard a deer coming near the stand. We were at the intersection of two wide trails in the middle of 3-4 year old cutover, can't see anything if it isn't on one of the trails. I had 4 scent bombs with Tink's #1 around the stand.

The deer got close and trotted the last few yards, it had to be within 15-20 yds but we couldn't have seen it even if it was daylight. We could hear the deer stop and huff, it trotted a little more, huffed again and then walked off slowly in the direction it came from. The huffing was a hard blowing of air.

I'm thinkin it was responding to the scent, what do you guys make of it?

I'll be hunting in the Grangeville area (southwest corner of St Helena parish) this season. How has the deer harvest been in this area recently and what can I expect? I've seen pictures of some really nice deer in St Helena parish lately.

Where do I go for sac-a-lait Friday morning? I like to know of a hot spot within 2 hours of Denham Springs, La.

Thanks for any help

CAguns makes good points. But as far as weight goes, I'm not stalking mulies or elk across miles of mountainous terrain. I get off my ATV and hike 15 yards to my box stand, so the more weight in the gun, the lighter the recoil. Just sayin... :)

How many rounds per 'box'?

First, my answer to your question is the .30-06, because it's the most proven cartridge in North America and ammo can be found anywhere. Now as far as ballistics goes, it's silly to suggest any of those those three cartridges is better than the other at less than 100 yards. Just a goofy conversation to be having. Second, my choice for hunting conditions offering just 50-75yd shots would be a Marlin .30-30, can't go wrong with it.

Thank you. We have bears and coyotes. I just wish they'd figure out how to prey on the hogs

Nice buck. I've noticed split brow tines are very common in Avoyelles Parish.

Thanks, Mandevillian. The snow & ice had them moving all over the woods this morning. The heater in the camp quit working on me sometime last night and couldn't get it lit again before I headed to the stand, so I was thinking about getting off the stand early and going home, coming back this weekend. But this guy stepped at just at 9am.

Thanks. Avoyelles Parish. Not really, but I'd have to agree he's at least 3.5, he was around 220lbs.

I’m sure he’s 3yo, but he looks really thick.
No daylight/color pics yet tho...

The Miami article seems to ignore issues like ground level sinking and erosion. We are generally becoming increasingly aware of progressives pushing man-made climate change as economic opposition to strong American industry. And skepticism about man-made causes vs denying actual climate change are totally different things. Skepticism is healthy.

Don't know really, I'm not very knowledgeable on the scoring process. I'm told the rut in our area starts the week prior to Christmas, so I'm ready. We're hearing some areas around us have already started. Thanks.

Just realized, that after this male bear showed up in my pics, I'm not seeing any hogs. Everybody else on the lease is tho. I guess he's residing close by my stand.

True. I had the feeder high, and the adult male bear couldn't get to it (see pic). But this past Sunday I lowered/filled, but forgot to raise it higher. I'm sure I'll find it destroyed when I get back :/
