Been awhile since I fished in Dec or lately for that matter, Iââ¬â¢ve had blood clots in both legs since May which is limiting my being outdoors. If anyone would just give me a hint if fishing could be better out toward the islands or in the marsh around Cocodrie tomorrow morning Iââ¬â¢d sure appreciate the advise.
Finnally got on a gobbling bird this morning, of course he hung up at 80 yards. checked another area and found two lonely gobblers, should have been a double but my partner had a bit of trouble getting his aim on at 15 yards; pattern just a little too tight. mine was a 2 year old weighing 17lbs with 9 1/2" beard
Guys I recieved an email that I'm sure several poeple had heard of by now but wanted to get the word out. There is BILL 20 that is being pushed in 18 states that calls for ammunition accountibility. It includs a .05 cent tax on every round we buy and for any uncoded ammunition including hand loads to be destroyed by 2011 but this bill could take effect by June 30th THIS YEAR. see http://ammunitionaccountability.org/legislation.htm
All hunters need to stand together and show our true sportsmanship
Hello from north of the Arctic Circle, just dropping a line and a couple pictures from the Canadian Arctic for all those in the discussions about being denied entry into Canada. Guys dont get mad about not getting into Canada just learn from the experience and do what you need to in order to get through next time as it is not impossible but they are strict as are many countries including the US. since 9/11 everyone has been more strict on allowing entry in their country even the 3rd world nations but through proper proticol you can gain entry just do your homework.
The weather is great here in Mckinley Bay NWT Canada, the temps are 37 to 42 degrees and the ducks, geese, sea ducks, caribou, seals and whales are on the move. there have been several large flocks of snow geese and other ducks moving around and caribou on the shore line. So get your guns and decoys ready and agree that we are all La sportsman and enjoy the outdoors. The pics are of the horizon with a Pingo in the back.
Well despite narrowly surviving having blood clots in both lungs and my left leg for Christmas me and my son ended the season in Jan. with 2 great Louisiana bucks, mine a 12" 8 point killed chasing a doe in a cut over and my sons 15" main frame 6 point with 3 good sticker points off the bases was trying to fatten back up on corn after the rut was finished, hope everyone enjoys the pictures and God willing the blood clots in my leg will get better so that I can begin preparing for next season.

Be very careful what you wish for!!!!! Merry Chritmas to all. Thanks for all the postings on hunting it is really great to be able to keep up with what's going on while I'm up here in the Arctic. I hope deer keep moving good till I get back after the new year.
had the trip of of lifetime hunting with Jerry Johnston of Texas Trohpy Hunters Magazine on 11-23-07. My wife took a 19" 10 point, my 11 year old son took a 16 1/2" 8 point, my 16 year old son took a 15 1/2" 8 point and I took a 17" 8 point with 11 1/2" G-1's. This place was a deer hunters Disney World the experience was really 1st class, we saw some truly increadable deer and the Johnston Family were wonderful.
could not get photi-os on original o=post
Openning afternoon my 11 year old son Cody was able to take his first deer, a 130lb spike. he made a perfect shot at 70 yards with his new Savage 7mm08. the deer droped in his tracks i am very impressed with the 7mm08 as a great youth rifle
Good start to 2007, i took this 14" 7 Point at 7:oo in the afternoon yesterday Oct 1st. this is the first time i have posted anything, i always read the postings and thought this would be a good time to start partisapating as this is my best buck by bow to date.
Thanks for trying to help out Mudflat. I thought we were on to something a first stop as we put 3 good specs in the cooler then a boat comes and passes by 20ââ¬â¢ away then another comes and drops anchor 20yds away then they leave and the other boat comes by again. Tried a few more spots with just a handful of 11ââ¬Â specks reeled in. Gnats were thick around Cocodrie and 4-points
Thanks for the tip, me and the wife will try to take that and box up a few
Iââ¬â¢ve taken more deer with a .270 with 130 grain game king bullet than the other simply because I had one since I was 17. But I have all 3 and more, .308 with 165 grain game king is awesome deer just drop, 30.06 with 165 grain super x soft point gets same results. The .308 is probably my pick though as using Nikonââ¬â¢s spot on app it does just what it says it will do. More important though is the scope, you can make a simple rifle into a great rifle with quality optics or you can ruin a great rifle with a cheap scope ðŸ§Â
I have a Silver and an A-5, both do well with improved modified choke and #4 steel for ducks or #2 steel for a duck/goose combo load, 3 1/2ââ¬Â I also have a Carlson waterfowl set and the trio works real good basing range to the choke If you donââ¬â¢t mind a little extra cost heavy shot or Rio bismuth are both awesome, I use both as I like the drop um dead these do as I use a retriever and swimming cripples is rough on a dog
Have a Riptide Ipilot on my bay boat, it has built in GPS that can hold you where you are with a single button push Really like it!
Way to go Capt Tommy,
Wind was a problem for me but me and the wife got our 10 reds.

I hunt very northern Tangi parish and have been noticing rutting activity at the very end of January into the first 2 weeks of Febuary. Everything from bucks fighting to chasing and breeding seen or on trail cameras. So i believe this would be a good and needed change.
I also think that the changes should be embraced by everyone I bowhunt, muzzle load and gun hunt, these changes dont stop bow hunting they just spread oppertunities to everyone. All hunters no matter of method of choise need to realize that the Anti's dont decremenate they want all hunting to stop and if we dont combine our efforts one day they will win.
Ive already commented on the SPR but feel it would be of benefit to say again. I shoot 3 1/2" for turkeys(i got the turkey choke from manufactor from info in the owner manual)great pattern to 50+ yards with Federal #5 shot. adjust the gas chamber as per the owners manual and low brass dove loads cycle just fine. mine is one of the first batch with the russian name on the gun. just take the time to do as the manual says and the gun works as advertised. the test of time is all that remains to be determined but for the price you cant complain if it doesnt last 100 years like the 1100 or Gold. Good luck with yalls I'm keeping mine.
thats a great pic of Cade bowed up on a good one. had a boat here this morning catching tuna one after another i'm ready to catch some myself
I got one when they first came out and still had the Russian name on the gun. I have taken turkeys with the 3 1/2" and adjusted the gas chamber then took it to the dove field with light field loads with no problem. If you want a gun to do all at a good price its a good gun, it just has not been around long enough to know if it will stand the test of time.
I have had the pleasure of starting 4 boys in hunting using various rifles and calibers and a 7mm08 bolt action with a good scope seems to be the best choice. it has very mild recoil and the 140 grain bullet drops deer in their tracks.I like loading one bullet for the beginners but they get the full experience of 1 shot safety while learning the mechanics of a bolt rifle. also they are able to operate the safety themselves very easily instead of fighting to cock the hammer on a single shot.
I found the site by goggling "shallow water anchors" i have been very happy with this product and there's no maintenance or mechanical breakdowns. I also installed it in less than 15 minutes myself. The fiberglass rod thus far seams to be indestuctable, I really considered a power pole but I think the ease of use, low cost, and zero maintenace out weighs the remote operation of power pole.
I have the 8' Stayput system, it is basically a manual power pole but for less than $200. using mine on 22' SeaPro and love it.
I used to shoot Mosberg 835 with great results but purchased a Remington SPR before last season and its the best move I've made. SPR turkey choke, Winchester 3 1/2" #5 shot 27 pellets in head/neck on Primos target at 50 yards (measured w/ Nikon rangefinder) killed 2 gobblers last year and both dead in their tracks no flopping.
while practicing earlier this year I had a carbon express arrow that came apart. My bow sounded like a dry fire and the arrow flew a crazy flight, after checking my bow I got the arrow and found that all of it from the fletching back to the nock was gone. after seeing what happened to you I feel real lucky. I had already had plans to go back to trusty aluminum arrows and your incident has made up my mind. I wish you a speedy recovery.
I also got one this past spring and with 3 1/2" #5 shot with the turkey choke I ordered from the manual it shoots amazing patterns (much beeter than the 835 i was using & without the punishing recoil)I also adjusted the gas chamber and it shot low brass dove loads without any jams in Sept. I'm impressed and for the price you cant go wrong.
i see this same thing almost every year as i plant multiple food plots that are cared for all the same and deer just seem to pick a favorite. i think in your case you may have identified your problem though plot 2 is twice as big and in a high traffic area, once deer get a little pressure they tend to go for smaller plots hidden away from human activity. if you can limit the traffic around around plot 2 i would believe that activity would increase....my 2 cents
Nikon monarch is perfect for the price range your looking at
My wifes brother had one for years and mounted it with a 4x scope. my wife killed several deer with it using 123 grain super-x power point. the longest shot she had was 90 to 100 yards and the mini-30 did its job. the main thing with the 7.62x39 is the same as any of the lower impact energy bullets out there SHOT PLACEMENT know your gun and put a bullet where it counts.
I harvested 2 great bucks this year one with .308 and one with 12 gauge slug gun both being in the 75yd range. Both the rifle and the shotgun are effective at 0-100 yards I rather them all I guess
