I hunt all around eastern Louisiana and all of a sudden since Christmas it seems like activity shut WAY DOWN... I haven't seen any chasing yet or even a small curious buck here or there? What's up?? Normally would start seeing them sturring a little bit more but we are all seeing the opposite around here where I hunt.. Is anyone seeing any kind of rut activity across central and eastern Louisiana?

smoked a fat 7 point this afternoon! Always wanted to kill one on Christmas eve and finally did it. What a Christmas present.

just thought i would let a few know that there was a huge 160" monster killed 3 days ago on ben's creek WMA. that's crazy! i never thought there could be deer like that around there. there's ton of huntin clubs around that place and they never kill stuff like that or even close I THINK.. bet they never expected to here about one like that lol

deer feeding charts... solar/lunar tables.... does anybody use them? Do you think they are a good guess or possibly help?? i know a few guys that hunt religiously by them and they kill good deer every year at the exact times they say are "HOT TIMES".

Hey out there all fellow hunter's and outdoorsmen. My name is Robert and i'm a freshmen at southeastern louisiana university in hammond. I've loved deer hunting ever since i first stepped into the woods with a bow 8 years ago. I'm looking for someone with private property either they own or know of that i could possibly do some hunting on around hammond-ponchatoula area. I live about an hour from school and its hard to get all my stuff together and go home to the hunting club just for a hunt and then come all the way back ya know. I really wish i could find someone with even just a few acres within 15 minutes or so around hammond or something. I'm an Industrial Engineering major and its hard to get much time away from classes and have much free time so it would be just a day or two a week. I wouldn't harm any landscape or trees, etc.. just have my old climbing stand, no fourwheeler or any other racket like that. I am a faithfull bow hunter and love it so if you even want me to just use my bow, i will. I've knocked on doors and made many phone calls, all with no avail. I've taken some nice deer last few years and strongly believe in being ethical and practicing conservation....."letting the little ones walk" . My cell is 985 335 5500 and email is robert.mizell@selu.edu Please think about it and let me know even if its just a few simple acres you have that i could get to. Thank you

February 06, 2008 at 10:47am

wrapped up the season today with a great 16" wide 8 point! what can i say this year has been awesome. got the biggest buck i will probly ever shoot in my life, as well as a decent looking 7 point couple days later... thank god for my job and the time i get off to hunt, i love to see all the time and effort pay off and this year has allowed me and ole dad to get even closer as he shows me all his tricks in his bag. i still rub it in little bit but he knows he was the one that got it running in my veins. love this sport and the friends you make and meet. "a bad day in the woods is always better than a good day at work" will i ever give up and think i've done enough hunting?........NEVER! i'll hit the woods even harder next year!

January 27, 2008 at 10:20pm

well got a new handi rifle in the 45-70 last year just to mess with a little and was waiting patiently to try it out on something this season since i been shooting the new hornady loads and lever-evolution scope combo. couldn't believe the accuracy. well this big boy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, i guess he was moving cause of the front comming through sunday evening. 250 lbs 11 point, 18 and half inch inside with 5 3/4" bases i have never seen one like it before and never knew he was there either got camera out there since august too! killed outside franklinton, la in washington parish. all i had was neck shot bout 110 yards out from him standing halfway out in my shooting lane..... pulled it just a hair- hehehe i love this sport and live for those moments!

well this might start a contraversy but oh well. Me and to other guys are already starting to think bout putting some money back to go some place on a payed hunt next year bow hunting and wondered which one yall like. We have come down to either giles island or tara wildlife for an early 3 day bow hunt. We all think giles probly has bigger deer but they do gun hunting there as well when tara has been only bow hunting for years. So our thoughts lead us to think that tara probly can accomodate more to the bow hunter since thats all they do and we might see more deer at tara that aren't scittish from gun fire. Then again it might be easier to kill a big one at giles because they claim that there ratio is 1-1 similar to Texas and they kill monsters there . So its just a hard decision.........

I am really impressed with the g5 montec 100grain after wednesday mourning when I layed tha smackdown on a big doe. Tore right threw her . Big blood trail and watched her fall from 60 yards away. First time trying the montec and well u heard the results. I just never get tired of bow hunting.

Anybody think this deer would grow to be anything next year if i let him go? i already had a chance to take him twice but wanted some more opinions by showing the pictures around. i know hes not going anywhere!

October 08, 2007 at 10:00pm

I have been hunting this deer specifically for going on 2 years and he just won't come out when i'm there this year he is no bigger than he was last year so i'm guessing he is very mature. Maybe 4 years old but more like 3 is what everybody says. Main thing i want to see peoples best guesses on what the spread is on this buck.

yea man, good luck and go for it. like i said prolly a good spot to start out just maybe not get right on top of em if possible just atleast 30-40 yards away downwind. then see what you can see from there or if you will need to make a move to another closer spot from what deer you see where your at and what direction they come from.

My uncle always put it best though summing everything up,... 'we can't kill'em at home on the sofa, gotta atleast be out there somewhere in the woods.' lol

A comment titled: yea in response to a report titled: Scrapes and Rubs

thats perfectly normal. where you will find alot of scrapes always is the edge of fields or just out in the edges of fields in grass. lots of bucks will make scrapes along thier normal daily travel route beginning as soon as they lose their velvet which they all should have by now so NO, its not too early to see this.
from what you have written, this sounds like a hot spot frequented by a bold whitetail buck....probly not a bad spot to hang a stand! just sayin...lol
