Made another long haul to Leeville Wednesday in da lil boat. Made way through Texaco canals heading to islands around Deep Bayou and shrimp and birds everywhere. Stopped and drifted into them and found a mix of everything, specs, white trout, seacats, stingrays but they were small except for the cats. Had to fight the porpoise to get the fish to the boat. Left and went to the islands where again birds and bait everywhere. Managed a handful of keepers and a few whites mixed in for dinner for few days. Then seacats moved in and were biggest I caught in a while, fun to play with. Headed in bout noon to beat the rain on the ride home back to DS. Until next time, Treerat

Made the long haul early Friday morning from Denham Springs to Leeville. Stopped at Goo’s on way in and went with live cocahoe minnows instead of shrimp. Made my way west and found dirty water with hard incoming tide. Amazing at landmarks which disappeared since last year and had to search new ones. Found cleaner water on west edge Little Lake in grass beds and hit the pile. Used all 50 minnows by noon and managed to take home 24 keepers with a 1 out of 4 keeper ratio.

Made another long haul from Denham to Leeville Wednesday. Found still winds, incoming tide, low but clean water. Finished the day with a mess of specs and white trout for dinner while releasing a ton of small ones. Young lady at launch from Marine Resources counting and measuring catch. She said I was first one she checked with fish although not many boats out today. Beware of a pipe about 10”-12” in diameter just below the surface at marked location. It’s at a 45 degree angle and either broke loose from the storms or just stuck.

Good news from Baton Rouge today! “Louisiana’s Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) Grant will go toward building an elevated 8.3 mile stretch of two lanes along LA 1 from Golden Meadow to Leeville, according to the news release. The roadway will be elevated 22 feet above sea level and connect to the existing LA 1 bridge.”

Made another long haul in the Alweld Friday not expecting all that wind. I stopped at Goo’s for live bait and everyone in line was getting live shrimp so I changed it up and got my usual 40 cocahoes and a pound nice bait shrimp as backup. Went to the west to try to get to pipeline rocks or helipad and got beat up so I fished backside of the islands and picked up a few small trout. Water was dirty and shrimp boats stirring it up. Bounced my was back in fishing a few points and cuts on way back in with only a few huge seacats. Found a few birds diving and again big cats. I worked my way back into the Texaco canals and found cleaner moving water and trout were on the bottom. The counter ended with 77 caught but only put 12 in the box due to size. Rain shower moving in so called it a day around 2 to head home. Cleaned da fish and peeled dem bait swimps. Baked dem trout and eggs with Swimp etouffe sauce on top a bed of rice. Good way to end a vacation.

Made the long haul from Denham Springs Thursday morning for some non-social networking with myself. Stopped at Goo’s for my usual minnows and good conversation then was waiting for daybreak to make first cast. First stop was killer stingrays. Second stop was 4 sharks already in inside waters. Found clean water spot and found a few fish. I could only take home every other fish cause wifee say too much fish in freezer. Only saw 1 other fisher person in a boat and a lone kayaker with not much to show for their efforts. Guess I was the fortunate one. I must have caught 50 rat reds just under legal limit.

Made the long haul from Denham to Leeville this morning armed with Goo,’s cocahoes. Water was decent and winds kept the gnats away. Saw all the boats at the pipeline rocks so started at the helipad. Caught a few small ones with only 1 keeper and a few stingrays. Moved to the pipeline cut on the island and ended up with 22, had to catch 3 to keep one. Bite was steady came and went in spurts. Bite shut down at 1 and I was out of minnows, they wanted no plastics. Good luck fishing.

I hadn’t been to False River in a while and had a small window to go close to home Saturday morning. Fished 4 hours with 8 made it in the boat. 3 on spinnerbait 5 and nicer ones on crankbait. All released for another day.

Made a long solo haul from Denham Springs to Leeville this morning. Everyone at Goos went to Catfish Lake but me. Right off the bat, 2 reds, 21” and 27” by the launch. Went to Little Lake looking for trout but they were hit and miss but small. Fished my way back into the Texaco Canal area and more reds, too big or too small. I wish I was tournament fishing because they were all nice beast. Ended up with 4 good reds for a good courtbullion and left just before the rain hit.

Any reports of crabs in Bayou Lacombe yet?

June 13, 2018 at 9:02pm

Went solo Wednesday and Thursday to Leeville with some insight from Capt Bob. Left the public launch with some lively cocohoe minnows and never cranked the motor. I used the trolling motor along the banks and was done by lunch. Caught nice limits close both days.

Had to go to Thibodaux yesterday for minor family medical procedure so, why not bring the boat even though bad reports last few days. Got to Jugs bout 3pm to see only 2 trailers in the lot and one was for WLF and was told I was crazy for going out in 25-30 winds. Went anyway to the east side and first few spots behind the points and reefs led only hardheads and stingrays on plastics. Water was not the greatest. Tried every bait possible and hit many points. I let the wind push me and found a cove with shrimp blowing up and nice water. After catching nearly a hundred in an hour or so, I managed to weed out nearly my limit on H20 shrimp from Academy. It was beautiful afternoon considering the wind.

Launched in the dark this morning and was ready for the early feeding period. Ended up with early limit and headed in for long ride home.

Went on a long sole trip from Watson early. Followed some advice from Capt. Gerald and went on east side. Fought the gnats and mosquitos at sun up. First spot was nada, second spot on backside point in current pick up 5 keepers then went totally small on matrix shad. Made small move and again small, switch to swim baits and 8 put in the box. Ran down Bayou Sauveur and turned into a bay where birds falling in water. Matrix shad kept small ones so back to swim bait and increased keepers to 15. Everything shut down so packed it up to head in then pull over by WLF boat, checked papers, safety stuff and fish, nice guy and all was good.

Thanks Capt. Bill for the info. JJ and I fished Sister Lake area Monday and immediately nailed the reds fishing in the grass and duck ponds with gold spinner baits. We bounced around the lake for specs and found a ton of small ones being able to keep about 25. Then the huge sail cats moved in and drug us around the lake.

Fished Tuesday morning and nailed the reds again then got swamped with the rain from every angle. Called it a day. Great time fishing with Son.

Im planning a trip next week with son on Easter break. Has anyone stayed in the cabins at Southern Leisure? I came across their ad for $40-$50 a night but I am concerned why they are so low. We are just looking for a place to lay the head and spend all our time fishing. Is it worth staying here or Tranquility Bay the better choice for a lil more? Thanks

2 late reports from recent DU trips last week. K and I went last Thursday and then JJ and I went last Saturday. We did very well on both days despite the cold and the winds. It was a one stop shop off of Bayou Seveur with the GLO TKO. It was fast and furious especially since I was using the double rig. When I cleaned them, their bellies were stuffed full of nice shrimp in most every one of them.

November 15, 2013 at 8:59am

Tough Day!! I went to do the DU with son yesterday. On the water at sunrise and had great sunrise and beautifil skies but wind and muddy water. Started on the east side and fished everywhere in between to Bayou Grand Calliou, couldn't get away from the oyster boats popping up around us. Hit all the spec holes only to find the small ones. Took the pounding and hit the islands in Sister Lake only to find more dirty water and 1 huge red, released to survive another day. Came back to hit the duck ponds for reds to find 2 more huge ones to release.

Catch of the day
1 crab
1 spec
1 red
1 flounder

Heads up, was told next week that Jugs was raising his $7.00 launch fee to $8.50!! He said his taxes going up?? Must need it to finish his addition between the buildings.

Capt. Paul, I just downloaded your edge file and the waypoints on my unit. When I opened all the files on my computer, there is a color map with all the waypoints on one of these adobe files. Can this detailed map be converted to the unit or does the waypoints only load to the base map in the unit itself? Your Map has a little more detail than the map in the unit.

June 11, 2013 at 4:54pm

Boy was it rough in the lil Alweld today. But, the fish didn't mind. 3rd spot and it was on! Ended up with 25 nice specs and a few white mixed in. The TKO Glow Shrimp was the ticket doubled up on the bottom.

I try to go down there often but this unusual year with too many events, weather and family stuff. I leave Watson about 3am and fishing by 6:30 to 12 or 1 depending what’s happening to be back on the road by 2. I have small boat so not a wallet breaker to make that run. But, yup, it’s a long day.

Dad taught me a few things about keeping his trout tasting like trout. When you clean the trout, put some of the ice water slurry from the cooler in the pan, clean the fish, rinse then put in the ice water pan. When bagging don?t overfill with filets, add a little of that water in the bag then vacuum seal, date and rotate. Does the trick for me and I try not to let sit more than couple of months in freezer. Treerat out

I remember them good ole days, I grew up in Montegut. The days of throwing a bucket over the handlebars on the bike and rod in one hand heading down the bayou. There were many challenge days with dad on who would out do who contest. You are making some of the best memories for that young man as I never forgot mine. He definitely has bragging rights with that drum for sure.

Seen you guys out there his morning. I went west along bank and fought lady fish as well. Found lil bit better water east and nabbed a lonely red released for another day. Got hot and storms brewing so headed out bout noon.

Same here. Bought the Hook for the yak and good for looking for fish and bottom but not for mapping. Sold the yak and decided to junk the Hook for an Elite 5 DSI for the Alweld. Its a great improvement and also will accept Capt. Paul's Edge files as well on a micro card once downloaded.

I work at Wally World and I can tell you first hand, ITS BEEN CRAZY! I have enough fish and shrimp to last me cause the wife can not have it. Food saver works great for preserving it. One hint, if you need anything, you want to get in the door when we open to get milk, eggs, meat and stuff before the wipeout comes. As for the TP, that’s another story 🤷🏼‍♂️

Fished Leeville west Thursday and caught a limit. All were females but 2 of them. The smaller ones had small but decent eggs in sac and the larger trout had nice full ones. Water was quiet salty. I’m sure fresh water really hurting stock.

After I saw this, I checked my 2002 trailer while on vacation. One spring had a half leaf and they were in bad shape. The spring seat hole on the axle was also cracked from the years of salt water. I had to call Majic Tilt and they made me a new axle and springs to fit the trailer because it was not a normal size like today’s trailers. Thanks for the article.

Went to Lake P yesterday out of Bayou Lacombe. Water up and very clear. Drifted to Goose Point with mix bag on gold spoons and spinnerbaits. 1 nice red, 9 nice trout, 1 gar, 1 lady fish, 5 bass. Bull reds exploding all around and saw several large stingrays cruising along. 15’ boat with a 25 yami. Very short boat ride.

Yup, good idea. I went to Dularge yesterday from Watson, 2.5 hour drive 1 way. It was first trip there in the last 6 months as I needed a change from fishing Leeville lately. It is amazing how much land loss there it just in this short time frame. Several islands I regularly fish are gone or nearly gone. You have to rethink your spots every trip for landmarks. Caught reds that were too big or too small, few nice specs and a ton of stingrays. Wind really kicked up and pounded my small boat so headed in bout 1.

Went to Leeville solo Thursday from Watson. Bought $10 worth of cocohoes. Tide switched mid morning but still a tough day. Caught bunch rat reds and small trout. Found a canal off Bayou Lafourche with good bite. Managed limit reds and 16 nice trout after fighting porpoises.

I pre-fished and fished tourneys recently and caught nor saw anything. I think the water is too fresh and they are north shore Lake P at best. I usually chase them on their fall run but not in the spring.

Read the article on the home screen! Enough said!

I have a 25hp hand tiller. The cord stays connected to my life jacket which is always on me while running. Got checked on False River by WLF and cord was not easily seen from his position. He went to give me citation but I had to point it out to him. Usually its a warning citation but they are only trying to save your life.

A comment titled: ?? in response to a report titled: Xpress Boat issues

I had a G3 bay boat for a few years and put it in the water and bilge would not stop running. I fished regularly and always inspected the trailer before reloading boat back on trailer. Immediately got back to dock, inspected my trailer and loaded boat back on trailer. Upon inspection, the bunk boards were covered in the white powder. I drove straight to the dealer and left it there due to it still being under warranty. Well, after many phone calls and much aggravation, I met an inspector from the factory. It was definitely from the pressure treated boards. They wanted to cut the bottom of the hull and weld back a strip where the bunks lined with the hull. I argued and knew the boat would never be the same. After my contact with my legal friend and only a mention of the conversation, they were going to replace the hull only and the bunks on the trailer and that was fine with me. Well, the new hull was wider and would not sit on the current trailer.

Long story short, I was replace with a new hull and a new trailer with all the current accessories from the old one. They even installed the lifetime bunk boards with the sliders as no out of pocket cost to me. I did a follow-up later and they went after the trailer mfg to recoup cost but the lumber supplier was already on the way out. If you close to any warranty running out, start inspecting now.
