I'm surprised not more is being made of this. I would think it would cause a pretty good stink.

I went to Elmer's Island for the first time ever in my kayak on Tuesday morning 5/15. I fished from the parking area at Elmer's down to Caminada, back to Elmer's and even a little beyond toward Fourchon. I fished close in and far out and all the space in between...I threw almost everything I had in the box...and all I caught was one lonely 13 inch trout.

Only artificials were used, no live bait was harmed in the making of this trip.

I guess the fish were dining elsewhere that day...or maybe it was just me :) .

CALL AND SUPPORT IN PERSON: House Floor vote on HB 391 Tuesday

There will be a House floor vote on HB 391 Tuesday afternoon.

LaSC needs you to call your State Rep and as many other State Reps as you can BEFORE TUESDAY. Demand that State Reps vote in favor of HB 391. If you need to call after hours or over the weekend, leave a message.

Find out who your Rep is: http://house.louisiana.gov/H_Staff/ASPNETFORM/H_Reps_ByAddress.aspx

Phone numbers: https://joinlasc.com/reps

Please also send an email to all State Reps simultaneously demanding a yes vote on HB 391. PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS STOP YOU FROM STILL PICKING UP THE PHONE AND CALLING.

EMAIL all here: http://www.123formbuilder.com/form-3376406/Political-Form-Letter

It is also important that LaSC members and supporters make a strong showing at the State Capitol Tuesday afternoon. Although members of the public will not be able to comment, we need to show a strong demonstration of voters and young fishermen.

Date: Tuesday, April 17

Time: 2 p.m.

Location: Louisiana State Capitol (900 N. Third St., Baton Rouge, La. 70802)

Sorry...edited to get the 'find your rep' section working...it should work now.

Maybe from that boat that ran on the rocks at Fourchon??

Yeah...the wind forecast for Tuesday is definitely not kayak friendly. Now...catch a light north wind out there and you can most certainly fish a kayak. I'm not sure where all the doom and gloom regarding kayak fishing off the beach comes from. Common sense, experience and preparedness are needed...but isn't that the case in everything?

Bridgeside sells it all...but closes at 7:30 as I recall.

' I would first explain the delta cycle'. You cannot explain the delta cycle in terms that do not include what man's affect is on that cycle...except when talking about historical cycles. To use Cocodrie as an example of a 'natural' delta cycle...well...nothing on the Louisiana gulf coast is natural anymore. That ship sailed quite a while ago.

' At least now they have a plan'...which will take another 40 years to implement as everyone argues and lawyers get involved etc, etc... Enjoy what you have while you have it and hope someone gets off their arse and gets started on what needs to be done. Go see what's holding Fourchon Beach and the beach (actually no beach left) of Grand Isle behind Bridgeside Marina together...Big black bags filled with sand...and that's about it.

Not sure how old that statement is...talking about swimming and all...but unless you can drive through wooden pilings I'd say that it is to old to go by. Last time I was there (last spring) you could not drive on the beach and overnight camping was NOT allowed. You can drive to a small parking area and walk to the water and all the way down to Caminada (2 miles or so) but it will be carrying or towing your gear by hand. Park opened a little before sunrise and closed an little after sunset.

'The cold weather theory is simply wishful thinking for those not wanting to admit that salinity reductions will impact trout fishing.'. I think it's just plain denial to say that the record cold temps we had this past winter had NO effect on the trout. Not sure I see a huge change in salinity levels, according to USGS information, around the Grand Isle area so not sure that can explain the bad trout season.

Meh...I think Capt. Mike Triche and Capt. Rory Rorison probably hit it closest...it's a combo of many things.

'White out! La. has coldest winter in three decades'. Kinda tells it all...we were repairing pipes in Leeville and then trying to fish waters that were 39 degrees!

The good fishing will return.

The man was down on Elmers...in the water...and told you what he saw...which was nothing. What do you want a video/pictures of? The surf? I'm sure if there were anything substantial to report he would have said so.

Thanks 28-3 for taking the time to post what you saw.

Professional guides should know better than anyone the importance and value of boating/fishing etiquette. Boating/fishing etiquette is a simple set of common sense, common courtesy rules to make everyone's experience more safe and fun.
Unfortunately there are some people who seem to believe, or just don't care, that those basic rules apply to everyone but them.

You are a better person than I am...I would have posted pictures as well as names.

PAC = Pointe Aux Chene .

There is a very nice launch built for kayaks only at the Pointe Aux Chene Marina. It's on the backside of the marina.

Great kayak friendly people there.

Not ugly enough for an oyster toadfish.

I doubt that that explains the lower number of trout caught across the entire Louisiana coast. It's probably caused by the really cold winter we had...how quickly we forget. Hopefully we will see a good bounce back.

We always called that a salt-n-pepper king snake...I guess 'speckled' is the proper name.

A comment titled: Re: Gentlemen's Request: Eloi/MRGO in response to a report titled: Gentlemen's Request: Eloi/MRGO

Ermmm....at what point, before man intervened, was all the areas we look at as inshore saltwater fisheries NOT a lot more freshwater. I'm not trying to start an argument...just saying...prior to all our meddling (levees, MRGO etc...) fresh water routinely flowed where we now fish for trout...and they still used to catch trout.

The fact that Leeville was once a citrus producing area and the dead tree forest down by Myrtle Grove kind of tells us what was once very much more freshwater/brackish areas.

Might could add a hint as to the location...not exact of course...but maybe a general area before calling this a report.
