A comment titled: Re: Stop Complaining in response to a report titled: Stop Complaining

You're right, I don't hunt southeast where you guys apparently do so I wouldn't know. But I am in the coastal zone and the OP started the whole thread saying he thinks the season should open earlier and that the hunting right now is great.... Again if you enjoy shooting gray ducks and teal then yes it's good. I prefer to shoot what I consider big ducks ( mallards, wigeon, pintail) and even gray ducks as we do not get those here in the west until a big front bringing cold weather moves through. The statement was made speaking for the coastal zone as the OPs statement was as well. I have talked to several people around the Houma area killing limits of greys/teal no problem.... So I guess I should have said that where I hunt, I do not think the season should have opened so early, and that I enjoy shooting big ducks in my area which do not arrive until later.

Us too, have never shot redheads at lease until last year. Was always early in the season and never full plumage.

By the way, I do not have access to a boat of any sort to go hunt in various public areas. I have a lease that consist of 80 acres rotating rice one year and nothing the next and with adjustments in calling and decoy spread have gotten limits of everything from teal to all mallard and wigeon ranging from opening day to the last day of the season. Again, as with every other hunting location any where... you have to have good weather.

Mudboat you are getting more bent out of shape about this than anyone else... The big ducks are not down here yet because there has not been enough cold weather to push them down. If you have hunted as much as you claim you would know this as well, we hunt in a warm climate. Some years it doesn't matter whether you open the season November 7 or December 7 it's still hot. Gray ducks and teal are here every year earlier than any other duck. So yes, if you enjoy shooting teal and bragging that you shot your 6 teal by 7:00 good then of course you will enjoy an earlier season. And you say everyone needs to learn how to hunt and scout but then you say that we never kill birds late season because they are so wary.... Which shows a real lack of hunting experience. Everyone sitting on a levee in Louisiana can kill 6 teal on opening weekend but not many can say they get limits of big ducks much less spoonbill late December or January.

I don't hunt marsh but the people I know who do are killing mostly grays and teal, is this for you also? I hunt over flooded rice and we are killing pintail, grays, teal, and redheads. Seeing pretty much same every hunt, early flights and few big ducks.

Yeah none of the ones I've shot have had yellow eyes all black and I'm guessing these birds aren't in full plumage? All have the same brown/red color.

I don't think people are whining so much as wanting what's better for our area. For years everyone I know has wanted the season to open later and instead it gets opened earlier. Fact is, it's 70 degrees in December half the time much less November. There hasn't been enough cold weather to push the birds down. Sure they have a few big ducks around but not nearly the numbers from last year when we had that strong front pass through for opening weekend. The ducks people are killing now are mainly teal with a few grays. Last years opening weekend we killed almost all big ducks with a few teal early, this year complete opposite. Why not open a week later and up the specks to 3 per person.

Not a great opening weekend, just an average day of teal season....
