Finished up a great duck season down in Pecan Island. We shot 8 on Saturday and 10 this morning. Donââ¬â¢t know what happened today but the scaup showed up in bunches. First time this year we had that happen. Not complaining but thatââ¬â¢s all we had to shoot at . Finished with a limit of scaup one teal and one spoonbill.
Hunted down in Pecan Island last weekend with mixed results. We shot 10 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. Slower than it had been with light winds most of the weekend.
Shot a three man limit yesterday. It took a while but was worth the wait. Mostly teal and and a couple scaup. Didnââ¬â¢t hunt this morning with the rain but the owner of our property hunted my blind and shot a limit as well. Weââ¬â¢re holding lots of ducks all around us right now. Hopefully they stay the rest of the season
Hunted down in Pecan Island last Sunday and Monday with pretty good results. We shot 13 on Sunday and 8 on Monday mostly teal and scaup with a bonus green head. Hunting later is definitely the ticket as most of the ducks we shot both days were between 9 and 11 in the morning
Hunted down in Pecan Island Sunday and Monday with pretty good results. Shot 13 on Sunday and 8 on Monday. Mostly teal and scaup with a nice green head on Monday. Hunting later is definitely the ticket as most of the ducks we shot were between 9 and 11 in the morning
Opening weekend was up and down for us . Smashed them Saturday with a four man limit. Sunday only three mostly teal and spoonies all weekend and a couple scaup. Best weekend so far.
Hunted down in pecan island Saturday and only shot 5. Slow first split over all. Shot 40 total in 7 hunts. Hopefully the second split brings new birds and better hunting.
Been doing decent the last couple weekends considering the weather. Shot 13 opening weekend and 17 last weekend. With all the hurricanes this year Iââ¬â¢m just glad to still have a camp and a place to hunt. Hopefully it gets better as the season goes on
Finished the last weekend down in Pecan Island. Not a bad weekend overall, shot 5 yesterday and 14 this morning mostly teal and spoonies , but did have a few greys one mottled duck and one black belly tree duck as well. Final count was 117 on the year three less than last season. Still below average but had a great time just being out there, hopefully everyone finishes up with a few like we did.
Slow weekend down in Pecan Island, the weather didnââ¬â¢t cooperate. Got a late start Saturday and didnââ¬â¢t get to the blind till 9:30 . Still managed to knock down 4 ducks , but the plus side was a banded blue wing teal. Sunday wasnââ¬â¢t much better 4 again, but shot a nice canvases back, add two teal and one mottled duck , and not a bad weekend. One weekend left hopefully we can finish with a couple good hunts.
Great weekend down in Pecan Island. Shot 17 Saturday and only three today, but still better than we had been doing. Add three dozen of nice crabs right off the wharf plus 12 good size catfish on the jug lines on the way back from hunting made a great weekend. Only two weekends left hopefully itââ¬â¢ll continue to get better.
Hunted pecan island this weekend finally had a little success. Shot 11 Saturday and 5 this morning. Slow so far this year. Hopefully it picks up soon
Hunted Pecan Island yesterday with my son Braxton for the youth hunt. He managed to get 5 total and missed a few others. Saw plenty of ducks all morning, hopefully theyââ¬â¢ll hang around another week so we can get a crack at them. Next weekend canââ¬â¢t get here fast enough.
Finished up the season with 7 this morning, not a bad hunt considering the way this season has been. Took my sister n law with me and we had a great time. I finished up with 120 on the season in 17 hunts. Well below normal , but not the worst. Heading to Texas next weekend to get on some doves. Good luck to everyone on the last weekend.
Finished up the season this morning with a great hunt. We shot only 7 but it was still good to get a few. 120 on the year not great but Iââ¬â¢ll take it. Made 17 hunts total. Took my sister n law with me this morning and had a blast. Heading to Texas next weekend and try and get on some doves. Good luck to everyone on the last weekend.
Hunted down in pecan island this weekend and I was pleased with the results. Not great but Iââ¬â¢ll take it , shot 9 yesterday and 8 this morning. Better than itââ¬â¢s been in a while.
Hunted the last two days down in the island. Yesterday was a good hunt we shot 11 which is way better than it was the last three hunts. Today was much slower with only 3 . Mostly teal this weekend with a few divers mixed in. Not complaining at all , had a great time just being there. Hopefully we can all finish up with better numbers the last few hunts.
Weââ¬â¢ll just like everyone else itââ¬â¢s been slow down in Pecan Island. We shot only 7 last weekend in two hunts. But had a great time just being out there ,beautiful sunrise with the moon over the decoys both mornings. Took Proud Popps advice and got a burner for the blind , and man when itââ¬â¢s slow you canââ¬â¢t go wrong with bacon sandwichââ¬â¢s in the blind to pass time. Back at it next weekend. Just for comparing , last year the same weekend we shot 42 . The same type weather just no ducks down right now. To much water up north, cold weather does help but when they have all the water and food they not coming anytime soon.
Hunted down in pecan island this weekend it was very slow. Shot three on Saturday and five on Sunday. Not much wind , and a blue bird day . Last year was the same results, did good opening weekend and then it slowed down the rest of the first split. We need either a good strong south wind or another front to come thru to make them move . We have ducks in the area just nothing to make them fly. Hopefully it picks up next weekend.
Hunted pecan island this morning, great hunt shot a 4 man limit by 8:30 . Mostly teal a couple scaup and 4 sponnies. Best opening morning in 7 years
Forgot the final count 150 ducks in 19 hunts
Been shooting more ducks the last few weeks with south east winds. Most of the ducks been coming off the gulf when the winds pick up. A buddy of mine went fishing off shore last week and they jumped about 2 to 3 thousand ducks 15 miles off shore. They were rafting up way out on a calm day. When the winds pick up they head inwards witch helps us a bunch.. they just sit out there with no pressure and head in when the winds pick up. Hopefully they stay around the next two weekends to finish up the season. I have the picture of the cinnamon teal shot next to us last weekend.
I agree with bayou bob on this one definitely a mallard hen with some colors of a drake mixed in. The beak gives it away. On another note we had a drake cinnamon teal killed right next to our blind Friday afternoon. That's the second one killed in our area in the last 4 years. They come in with flocks of blue wing teal. We or probably holding about 3 to 5 thousand blue wing right next to the property we hunt. This happens every year the last three weeks of the season.
Just add more garlic in them scaup. The more garlic the better in any duck. I prefer teal and woodies any day but you gotta take whatââ¬â¢s given to you. Good luck on the rest of the season. We looking pretty good for the rest of the season. Weââ¬â¢re holding a few thousand ducks right next to our lease hopefully they donââ¬â¢t go anywhere soon
I like em in the black pot stuffed with garlic cooked down with onions over rice with white beans. I have eaten smoked before. But I like them things on rice and gravy. Although smoking them is also a great way to eat them as well
Beautiful duck. We only got one of those this year. Hunting for us has definitely picked up the second split. We shot 10 this morning mostly teal and scaup. I forgot to take pictures today but we still had a great hunt. Yesterday on our lease everyone shot limits, but I couldnââ¬â¢t make it.
Thatââ¬â¢s pretty cool. Guess he was bored and wanted in on the action
Itââ¬â¢s been an up and down year for me so far but itââ¬â¢s been really better this split. Hopefully it finishes up with a bang. Good luck to everyone on the rest of the season. On the picture with the old school camo itââ¬â¢s one of my great friends a retired Army Sargent Iââ¬â¢ve been bringing with me for years. He always whereââ¬â¢s his old Army gear when he hunts with me.

Weââ¬â¢ve been seeing waves of ducks moving really good after 9 in the morning especially with good winds. Weââ¬â¢ve been averaging about 5 to 7 ducks early . Everything else has been taken later in the morning. Last Sunday if we would have hunted 10 more minutes longer we could have shot a nice group of about 50 green wing coming in the decoys but we already had the guns in the cases. This was at 10:45 in the morning. We had catfish jugs out and were ready to go check them instead. We should have hunted a little longer I guess. But we still ended up with a 150 qt ice chest of fish as well
We have a lot mixed reports all over in our area. My neighbors hunt north of pecan island by white lake. No ducks at all. They been averaging about one to two ducks a hunt. West of us has been much better. Weââ¬â¢re doing better on strong east and south winds. A strong north wind is good as well but unfortunately theyââ¬â¢ve been happening when Iââ¬â¢m working. Hopefully we get a really good northern front to freeze everything up north and bring a really good push of new ducks down. Last time we had that was thre years ago. Iââ¬â¢m talking freezing temperatures down here for more than one day. Thatââ¬â¢s the only thing that will get them all the way down
I guess thatââ¬â¢s why they call it hunting and not killing. Every day is different. You wonââ¬â¢t know if you donââ¬â¢t try.
We have one down in Pecan Island 3.50 per bird.
Looks like yââ¬â¢all had a great opening weekend. Hopefully it keeps up for the rest of the season
Awesome hunt there those boys looked like they had a great time. Always good to see smiles on those kids faces
Awesome hunt guys glad yââ¬â¢all finally got them. Now we just need next season to hurry up and get here so we can get back at em
Thanks, same to yââ¬â¢all hopefully everyone has a great finish to end the season. We definitely have a lot more birds down now just need the wind and good weather days for them to move.
We killed 70 so far but itââ¬â¢s still pretty slow. Either we scratch or we do good no in between
Yeah that fog was bad this morning, we shot 3 ducks early and once that fog rolled in about 7 the hunt was over. Didnââ¬â¢t fire a shot the next two hours. Thatââ¬â¢s hunting.
I agree on the duck migration. As long as they flooding those corn fields north of us weââ¬â¢ll never have the ducks we used to have. Thanks to Ducks Unlimited for providing all the free feed and resting areas for them to stay. Sad to say but itââ¬â¢s one hundred percent true. I know plenty of people that went to Kansas and Oklahoma and they smashed the ducks in flooded corn fields. All public land . You can drive up there rent a hotel or house and kill all the ducks you want. Just walk in and hunt. My buddy and them shot over 100 in 4 days all Malards and pintail on public land.
