I am looking to buy a boat... Thinking of a jon boat or something along those lines. There are 3 of us in the family, 1 being an 8 year old kid.

We aren't doing anything crazy, just want something to maybe do some bayou fishing and take a trip up the Tchefuncte River every now and then.

What size boat do we need? I have been looking at 14' and have found both a 14' fiberglass skiff with a 25hp Evinrude and a 14' flat with 6hp Evinrude, both running right about $1600.

I have a budget of right about $2k, so I can't afford anything crazy. Any suggestions? A buddy of mine said we'd outsize a 14' fast, but I can't find any decent 16' in the general $2k price range.

I am new to the boat thing, so bear with my stupidity.

I've got a few questions for y'all.

We just moved down here to St. Tammany Parish and brought along a canoe and a kayak. I've got a Minn Kota Endura 45 for the canoe. I've never used the thing, but am excited to get it wet VERY soon.

Here are where my questions arise.

First, do I need to register my canoe if I am going to have the trolling motor attached to it?

Also, in this brackish water, am I going to destroy the thing fast? If I keep spraying it down and what not after trips, will I be ok? If it is going to destroy it, I see Minn Kota makes a saltwater version of the same motor. Can I replace parts on my Endura 45 with those when they rust out?

Just wondering. Yeah, sometimes I ain't the sharpest marble...

I've been living in Louisiana for a few months now and finally getting around to getting a fishing license. I have a Louisiana drivers license, but when I go to enter it in the system it tells me it doesn't recognize the number and to call.

I am about a month short of being at the 6 months the state requires to be a resident, but I didn't get my drivers license until recently. I have been staying with friends until we sold our house in Atlanta and bought a house down here, which we did about 3 weeks ago.

So, here's my question... Am I screwed on being able to get a Louisiana license? I really don't want to have to pay $100 just to have the thing expire here in a few months, only to have to pay another $100 because I never went and got my license.

Anyone have any insight before I call tomorrow? My kid has spring break from school next week and I'd like to spend the time getting lines wet and bending some rods.

Thanks in advance.

Check out northshorefishingreport.com

Lots of great info and people there to answer questions about the area.

(We just moved from Atlanta to Mandeville in March. Loving the area)

The one is Alabama didn't work out. Didn't have a VIN for the boat or trailer, said he had paperwork somewhere but would have to look hard, couldn't find the Coast Guard sticker for capacity or any of that. My wife gave me the 'Hell no' look and she was right.

Came home and did some more looking and went and checked out a Bass Tracker Special Guide V-16 that was in great condition. I think I found a boat.

I'm going to go look at one today. A 16' Bass Tracker aluminum with side console and 65 hp Evinrude.

It is a little bit of a drive (over in Mobile) and without knowing a ton about boats, I am thinking of taking it to a boat mechanic to be looked at.

Any idea how much it would run me? Think I could get it done over there or should I give him half payment, bring it back and have it looked at, then send him other half if he'll do that?

All told I spent about $40 on the license between basic fishing license, saltwater license and crab license.

Helluva lot cheaper than therapy sessions with a shrink, for sure.

Thanks for the help, y'all.

Karma came and bit me in the...

Went to Wal-Mart and got an in-state fishing license. Went and threw some line in the water to celebrate. An airboat came by and wanted to cross where I was fishing, so I politely moved my car so he could cross the road. He got about halfway, started swaying back and forth and blew my lawn chair in the canal. Had my cellphone in the cupholder.

Here's to bent rods this afternoon!!!

I closed on my house 3 weeks ago. I couldn't get an in-state driver's license because I didn't have proof of residency anywhere until we purchased the house. We were in 'temporary housing' while we completed the home search and purchase. I didn't break any laws. I have established full intent to reside in the state like the regulation dictates. I just don't want to pay out-of-state today and then again in a few months. I think that is malarkey.

It is what it is. I'm pissed its going to cost me $200+ to fish this year. But, I'll pay it (but not without a fight) and will have a great time fishing my boy.

Tight lines out there.

So, I tried WLF and they couldn't do it. Gave me the phone number for someone else. I called them and, oh, the poor girl that answered the phone.

She said I was out of luck, and was pretty rude about it, to be honest. So, I asked if she would approve me not paying my property taxes on the house we own here since I am not a resident. I then went on to ask her why I am OK to pay property taxes, have an in state license, pay for in state tags for my car, higher auto insurance premiums because I live in the state as well as my child is allowed to attend school in the state, but I can't get a fishing license for in state.

She was a little speechless at that point. She humbled up and said she didn't make the rules. Well, please transfer me to someone who can bypass these rules and take care of this for me.

I was told they were all in a meeting, but if I give her my phone number and name (which she already had because I made it that far through the application process), she would have someone call me back. I laughed and said everyone isn't in a meeting right now, that's her brush off. I asked for a phone number of one of those people and I would try to call them later. I was told again they would call me back when they could. I asked for the phone number yet again, she said they would call me when they could.

I asked what if they called while I was in a meeting. SHE HUNG UP ON ME!!! LOL.

I guess out-of-state license, here I come.

Anyone wanna go fishin' next week?
