I took my son Anthony on his first hunt to Texas the weekend before Thanksgiving and he kill a ten point and the next morning he killed a doe he was as happy as he could be this is his first big buck of his life and he cannot wait to get the mount put up in his room. Anthony you did a great job an dad had a great time with you!!!!!!!!
I am looking for some advice, i finally killed a pair, male and female wood ducks a few weekends ago i have been wanting to kill a pair for years now, but since i am not big into duck hunting i am more into deer hunting and offshore fishing. I am trying to figure out what would make the best looking mount for the pair. It would be better if it was a wall mount but i could make a mount that could be put on the conference room table also. I am just wanting some input from people who have more back ground in this than i do. Thank you very much for you suggestions in this matter!!!!!!!!!!
I am not trying to start any conflict I am just giving a report that today on the Grand Isle Beach we found two tar balls washed ashore that we picked up and to give a perspective too the crock is 12 inches long I am sure this will happen for a while.
I am looking for any advice to use with my son. He is 8 years old and has been shooting this year for the first time we started him on a 22 magnum, then a 223, and now a 243. We have a life size deer target for him to shoot at which is 100 yards away. He can consistantly group four bullets in a 2 to 3 inch area at 100 yards with all three guns. I have brought him hunting for the last four weeks and he has missed three times all times the deer were 90 to 110 yards. If you could give me any advice on how to work with him and explain to him anything I might be missing I would greatly appreciate it thank you. Cutoffman!!
I hunt in Larose, LA and I am wondering if there is a youth weekend for deer hunting. I have been to the WLF website and cannot seem to get a clear answer. Any help is greatly appreciated. My 8 year old son is dying to get in the stand.
He is concentrating more on his shot now days becasue he dropped his second one over the weekend in Texas so I do not have to worry about deer meat for this year!! Keep it up Anthony you are great and make daddy very proud!!!!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to update all the people who had commented on the original report and gave great advise on how to train my son in shooting a rifle. We went back to the 22 magnum and shot all summer and into the fall shooting melons, cantalopes and down to where he was hitting a 12 ounce coke can at a 100 yards. I brought him in the stand for a youth hunt yesterday morning and a doe and yearling walked out I made him sit there for a while looking through the scope to make sure he was calm for a while. Those two walked off and about twenty minutes later another doe walked out alone. I made him sit for at least ten minutes watching thru the scope before I asked him if he felt confortable once he said he did I took it off of safety and he shot the doe fell too the ground and did not take a step. As you can see in the picture he hit it a little forward but it is his first deer and He could not be any happier than he is right now. I am very proud of Anthony and also to my Best Friend Biilly that gave me a great amount of help in teaching my son to shoot properly and get his first deer. As we all know there is only one first deer in your life and he will always remember it!!!!!!!!!
Lombas welding in Larose, LA is going to be one of the best built mudboats around. I had one built by him a few years ago and installed a vortex V-6 in it and it was a very fast and powerful boat. He can make it to the specs you want and you will not be disppointed. Lane Lombas

You can contact the building permit department on Grand Isle. 985 787 3196. Your pilings have to be a minimum of 12' in diameter and the pilings need to be put a least 8' in the ground. As the previous person said they will give you a lot of information and make sure you get all the strapping required because I have seen them make people tear it open to install them because they closed up with out installing all the straps. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!
I made my Comments even though I do not like the proposed season at all I would rather see a summer season matched up with Red snapper and not during the fall hurricane season!!
Killed this one in Texas last November!!!!!!!!!!
Capt. Ian, I am going out of Fourchon on Saturday to make a run because it looks like they have blue water out at a reasonable distance can you give me any informaion on if you ran across a decent rip with bait fish that looked like it had potential. Thank you in advance for any information you can help with!!!!!!!!
Capt. Bob I think you said it perfectly. No matter what the fee was how can a guide or an outfitter justify putting an individual paying or not in a set up that looks like I was trimming trees yesterday so let's throw it in a pile and put some pour person in here and tell them this is an excellent spot and do not worry that you can be seen from the side and the rear deer only move in one direction on our ranch. Hope all goes well for them at the Louisiana Sportsman show this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sent copies out my self and UncleJim the blonde cannot read!!!!!!!!!
I am one who usually does not comment but that has got to be the sorriest excuse for a blind that I hvae seen in a long time. How could some one that you are paying to hunt with even stick you in a set up like that. If I was the guide I would be too embarrased to set up up there. I am sorry your trip turned out like it did for you I know a lot of people spend and save a lot of money to go on Hunting trips and when you see it turn out like this it is sad!!!!!!!!
First of all thank you to all of you who commented the first time with ideas on what to try with my son. I went to the target practice area today and asked him to shoot the gun and did not let him know there was not a bullet in the gun what I have realized is when he pulls the trigger he is pulling his head away from the gun. We tried it two more times with the same reaction both times because I would tell him that
I had put a bullet in it and I would take it out while he was not looking. I let him shoot one time after with a bullet and he definitly moved. I am thinking to just start fresh with the 22 again and let him shoot until he feel confident. Could any of you recommend a gun that has some knock down power that has little or no kick this seems to be the thing that bothers him the most and I think this why he is moving trying to compensate for the kick of the 243. I do have a limb saver on the gun but I can tell he is worried about the shot eventhough. Thank you for any ideas and Everyone Have a very Merry Christmas.
Thank you both for your input I will try to work on the issue with some of what you both have said. You are both right nothing better than hunting with a child. Falcon you are right there was a aiming point on the deer and we used it to help him get a feel for bullet placement at the beginning but after shooting the target with the 22 magnum probably 20 to 25 times wee removed it and he is consistant almost always at placing it in the area you stated. Again thank you to both of you for yourhelp. GOOD LUCK HUNTING!!!!!!!!!!
SEAGUL Thank you for your help I found it and my son will only have to wait till next weekend.
You would need to call Apache Louisiana Minerals in Houma. 985 879 3528 I think the person in charge of that is Tim. Hope this helps.
Todd,
I just sent an email to the commissioners and already had two of them read my email
RIGHT ON CAPTAIN ERIC KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
WHERE ARE YOU AT DARYL????
Daryl I did not know you were looking out for us while OBAMA is not here to do his photo op! Everyone needs to worry about themselves instead of trying to enforce rules on others you need to pay attention to your own needs and quit worrying about what is good for others!
Please post the pictures of the decontamination process I did not know kentwood water was that POWERFUL!!!
I fished out of Grand isle last Saturday and the rip was about eight miles south of ST 151. I looked on RipCharts this morning to see about the up coming weekend and it is showing that the blue water change is about 65 miles out at a 179 degrees. I hope this helps looks like i might just be snapper fishing this weekend. On Saturday the seas got to a six foot chop at 151 but we still managed to catch 12 red snapper and two cobia about 40 pounds each. GOOD LUCK.
