Went out Friday morning out of Golden Meadow, and quickly put together a 2 man limit of trout in no time. All trout were caught using a cork and holly jolly matrix shad.

Headed out of the Golden Meadow public launch this morning at 6:45. Made our first cast at 6:57, and had a two man limit at 7:23. This past week Golden Meadow has been on fire. Let's see what next week holds.

Went fishing in Golden Meadow Saturday afternoon right before dark. Let's just say it was worth it. Ended up with 50 trout in just under two hours of fishing. Then went back Sunday morning and caught a two man limit of redfish. Left them biting. Everything was caught under a popping cork using matrix shad holly jolly or minnows. We were also wearing the most comfortable hats by fish on apparel. if your in the market for a good hat check them out!

Someone posted earlier about a feed tag. ive been saying this for years that it would help. To me it would definitely even the playing field. If this doesn't help maybe a little help from LDWF would help. At least try some of our thoughts out and see what works.
What do yall think?

Decided to take advantage of the nice weather and went this morning, and it wasn't a disappointment. It wasn't the greatest hunt but ended up with two limits of dogs, and one grey. Just couldn't get the greys to come close for nothing. The dogs on the other hand were a different story, easily could of had 12....also if your looking for quality lanyards check out FowlLife Lanyards on Facebook...great product and awesome prices!

Finally was able to get on some birds! The last cold front finally pushed them down. Ended up with all our limits!!!

I would love to take mr. reynolds for a boat ride in my area and show him all the 'LARGE' amounts of ducks that here here. His jaw would drop on how the marsh looks. Then i would like him to explain to me where the ducks are.

I was under the understanding that you could not manipulate the area that your hunting in to lure birds on. I've read and talked to LDWF as was told you could do nothing to change the habitat that it had to be natural. Well i must have missed something, because i never knew 'MAN MADE' pumps flooding however many acres is natural. Maybe i'm just a dumb hunter that doesn't know, but that sure looks like luring birds to me. All most of us are asking is to even the playing field. Just be honest and say that by pumping water and flooding a field does not lure birds in! I'm not knocking anyone that does this either, because if i had the land i'd do the same thing. But hey fair is fair. I bought a license, stamp, gun, boat, etc. but at the same time i don't get to hunt in a golden pond. If that's the case beings the MAN MADE pumps are not natural but completely ok to use. Can i build something that floats in the water, Plant on it, wait the required one year, and harvest at least one pound of whatever i plant to replant the next year then be able to hunt that pond? Seems like that's the same thing they are doing. I'd love to get a non biased answer to this!

We can say what we want but it all falls on deaf ears. You want to make them listen hit them where it hurts. If we would all come together and not buy your hunting license I bet they would notice that, and then they would want to know why were doing what we’re doing. Just my opinion to help the issue out!

So if I build something and anchor it out in my pond and plant, wait the 1 year for it to grow, and then harvest at least 1 pound of it a year, that's perfectly legal right?

I believe they are manipulating it by using pumps to flood the fields. So that's not considered right? I was always told that you can do anything that isn't natural to the pond or whatever it is that you hunt. but yet you can use pumps to flood the field to attract ducks, and how is it natural to a pond when there is an ice eater in it....

So when I'm hunting on my lease that I pay for and joe numb nuts comes on my lease and is fishing next to my duck pond and behind the trees on the edge of my pond where I can't see. Or hear him to know that he's there, and I shoot at a duck and kill or hurt them who is responsible? Should it be the state that passed this law? Should it be the company I pay for this lease to hunt? Why should it be me when I leave this land to hunt just for me and no one else should be on it!
All I know is that in the area that I live in, there will be a lot of gun shot that are fired, and I'm not blowing it out of proportion either it's gunna be a blood bath!
So any lawyer/law school person that may have commented on this can you please clear the air on this?

So baisically what your saying mr Reynolds is that there is a big difference between flooding a field and baiting a pond when they are practically the same? Then how about I build something that floats and can hold and sustain plant life, then it would be available 24/7, whatever wanted some could have it, and would help inveribrates! How would that be taken by officials?

Pumping water in a field helps out way more than you think....let me put 50 pounds or what ever a week and I can go out and pretty much kill my limit every time....putting water in a field is the same a putting feed in the water it's luring birds in....yes weather plays into it but they still migrate down here if it isn't that cold!

December 12, 2016 at 5:41pm

Where I am in SE la the ducks don't show up till pretty much the end of duck season, and it's been like this as long as I can remember! I do understand that there is water everywheres, so it's nothing for ducks to just pick a spot and stay and if no one is there then they will hardly move. I also know that it's money controlling all the decisions thats made regarding hunting. That's why I fell there's two options they should do. 1) stop hunting in crawfish ponds and flooded fields or 2) allow people that's not able to hunt those kinds of places put feed. Make it mandatory to buy a separate permit for let's say 2-300 dollars regardless if you hunt once with someone or if you have your own place and go every weekend. Also make make over the limit double or triple the fines they are now and mandatory jail time. I would even be ok with them dropping the limit to four if this would be allowed. Talk about the money they would generate from this, because this is all they are worried about any ways!

December 08, 2016 at 1:35pm

We get plenty of ducks down but not till January. Then two weeks later seasons closed....but you are right. There's gunna come a time when the hunters will say enough and pretty much take the seasons into their own hands. But I'll keep saying this tho, I like to know how it's fair for some people to hunt on a 100 acres of flooded rice and it be perfectly legal but totally illegal to hunt with 50 pounds of anything in your pond! I have buddies that have places to hunt like that and I know for a fact that when they go to harvest they make sure more falls on the ground that what's supposed to....but hey that's ok bc it's natural

December 08, 2016 at 8:23am

There is so much marsh lost in our area, but haven't really seen anything done to help. But I still don't think it's fair/right to be hunting in crawfish ponds or flooded corn fields. You mean to tell me that it's natural for most crops to grow in 3 feet of water? I feel along with a lot of people in my area that we should be offered options. Would like to voice my opinion at a wlf meeting but it's hard to do when most meetings are held when most of us are still at work. I just think that's there's to much money getting thrown at the right people to make the seasons the way they are!

December 07, 2016 at 1:28pm

I'd love to know where they got these numbers from, because from what I've been seeing and hearing hardly anyone is killing anything! For one the season in the coastal zone shouldn't open until at least thanksgiving weekend or the weekend after! And two it's hard to get ducks when you go a little west from where I'm at and there's nothing but flooded fields holding tons of feed keeping ducks in the area....but heaven forbid I would put 50 pounds of milo in a pond....I'd be crusified! To me something needs to be done to help the hunters way down south, but I'll likely never see that in my lifetime!

If you come to basons or golden meadow just keep in mind that its hunting season and most of the land in the area is privately owned. I have a private lease and I get a lot of people coming fishing on my lease and I know a lot of people don't know, and im not the type to start trouble and ruin peoples day, and still try to help them out when they come into my pond, and usually show them spots on my lease to fish while I hunt so we both win. but just be careful because some people in the area can get pretty butthurt.

I know how you feel. I hunt the coastal zone pretty much by the gulf, and I do agree that they opened the season way to early for us. It would have been better if they would of opened it this past weekend for us. the problem that we have here is that you cant get out and go scout like everyone says to do, because basically all the land around here is privately owned. And as far as the WMA in my area, that's the last place you wanna go now bc they are burning blinds, spraying you with pellets, or getting close to you if they say your in 'their' pond, so it's not worth it.

Went yesterday afternoon, and saw like three mottled ducks get up and that was it for a while. Then later on seen quite a few big flocks just getting down here Speck. Would of needed and F-18 to kill them, but they are slowly coming down tho. A thanksgiving weekend opener would be nice down here. I don't have facebook or anything like that nut was told some people slaughtered the birds for the opening as well, but I wander how that happened? Luck? Skill? or whatever you wanna call it. Ended up with only shooting one male hoodie and that was it worst season opener ive had in a long time. The best season I had was when they had to open up the morganza spillway up north. I had never seen so many ducks in my life that year.
