I am a new boat owner, and from what I gather from reading these forums, fishing around Bayou Black and the ICW area can easily get you a trespassing ticket/charge if an overbearing 'water' owner decides to harass you.
So with that said, how can you tell when you are 'private' water or not? I saw one post that said if you are in the marsh then you are almost certainly on private water but I am not sure what the difference between the marsh and what the rest of the water looks like - I would easily get into the marsh and have no idea I was there.
The historical posts also seem to indicate that many canals are private -- does this mean any water way leading off main bodies?
I have read many reports on how great the fishing is there, but not sure its worth it with such ignorant 'water' owners around.
After coming back from la place recently I got interested in bringing the boat out to duncan canal / west lake P area... but my google searching left me a little confused. First, I found this post on another board about it being dangerous to run through the canal in boats: http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/display.aspx?sp=48221506&s=4&p=48218989 Is this accurate? Also, is fishing under the interstate and the waters between the interstate and the lake generally productive? It looks like it would hold fish, but I never see any boats out there and from looking while in the car and on google maps, it looks like some areas would be incredibly shallow and also filled with many stumps. It would be nice if the area was good fishing though as its so close from to launching from by the casino.
I wanted to try fishing at 'Seabrook Pier' soon and took a drive out there today. I did not see any actual pier though.. I drove through the boat launch and the side of the lake headed towards UNO and did not see anything resembling a pier. I saw some concrete barrieres going out towards the water, but can't imagine people fish from there? They had signs posted and generally did not look like a comfortable place to fish.
Is there pier not right on the canal by the bridge? Is the pier no longer there? If it is still there I would really appreciate GPS coords or maybe a google maps screenshot of the location. I felt pretty silly leaving and not even being able to find the pier that people often talk about...
I am looking for a bay boat that will work well for my future fishing plans.
The areas I would like to fish area all inshore and (I believe are?) calm - delacriox, golden meadow, and a few places around southern LA for bass fishing. Let me know if any of these are not calm - it has been a while since I have been to them.
With that said, does anyone have experience with xpress bay boats? In particular, I was looking at the h20b (https://xpressboats.com/hyperlift-bay/).
I read around this forums and others and people seem to complain about it not handling rough waters well and that it doesn't hold up well in 'chop'. Since I don't plan on taking it anywhere except calm waters like the places I listed, should this be a concern?
Does anyone have experience with this boat or xpress boats in general when fishing around southern LA?
I have very little boating experience so trying to be cautious with my choice.
