I'm looking to expand my fishing area, I have a 19' basscat.( I can only afford to own i boat and already have this one) I was wondering when do they move inland after the spawn. I mostly fish in the Weeks bay and Vermillion Bay area and don't like to have to wait till the River comes down to allow the salinity in my area to come up. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm hearing word that the new luanch in Delcambre will be open at the end of this Month. Has anyone heard the same from reliable sources? I've seen the plans for the entire launch and it is empressive!!!

Had a great Monday fishing next to a good fishing buddy of several years, EVENTHOUGH our day was cut short due to a blown out water pump gasket. Never had one due that and wouldn't believe it unless I'd seen it in person. Still, we had a blast bass fishing for reds.

I know it's not new news, just wanted to commet on the new dock in Delcambre. It looks great from the water and looks like it'll have plenty of parking. 4 boat docking and dividers to keep you in your own ramp lane. This just make me hope they hurry and open it. I wonder if now that we'll have a great launch, if they'll have a bait shop that opens earlier. This is going to help motivate me to start fishing out of Delcambre again. The old dock conditions and parking is why I haven't been going there. It's mostly because of the number of boaters wanting to do the same, and not enough parking. This new dock dock will be great for everyone.

Can anyone tell me of Jean Marie landing is still open. Haven't been there since 2008

Does anyone have a recomondation for a fiberglass shop to repair/replace transom on a bass boat near Lafayette.

Well my boy and me didn't fair as well I had been doing. We seem to have only landed 4 reds on this trip. With only 1 nice one. Still and all, he had a good time.

February 26, 2011 at 2:22pm

Went fishing with my buddy, his wife, and their 2 kids and racked up on 25 reds. It only took about 2 hrs round trip out of Delcambre, near bayou Tigre. Smallest red was 17 inches, largest was 24 inches.

I agree, you really need to head east or west to get on any trout this time of year. Even chasing reds this time of year can get you in trouble with the weather at Marsh Island. I'm a fan of Sister lakes if you don't own a very large boat this time of year.

I never understood why this reef was positioned in an area of limited current. I've been trying this reef since it was built, and haven't done all that well. It would be great to have someone explain why this reef doesn't seem to produce that well.

Don't you know the saying about fishermen ' if you don't want a fisherman to lie to you, don't ask him where he's catching' LOL!! Nice catch. I've been doing well and getting reports all over our area, looks we might have a good year. See you on the water.

HuntingRed you are very correct. You can have a layer of freshwater at the surface and have very salty water on the bottom due to the higher Specific gravity of the salt water making it heavier. But generally in shallow areas with current, the two tend to mix well. But I guess that's one of the reasons some catch and other fish. And you can also have clean water under stained water, but any good angler knows all of this. I guess I just hope to identify these anomalies to catch more fish.

In my humble opinion, the Point is a several weeks from getting close to being rite for specks. Muddy fresh water is not good for the bait and you know the specks are going to follow the bait. As for the salinity, it's more for their breeding than for their survival. I've caught specs well into February with low salinity levels. I'd go to Bayou Dularge or any place east of that if you want to increase your chances.

Head South at the light close to the bridge. It's across from the Cemetery. I highly suggest you get a map or spend some time on Google Map looking at what you're dealing with. With knowledge of the area, and good fishing skills, you should have no problem finding what you're looking for. I will tell you this key...If you're timing is correct, you can limit out on reds with only a short run from the landing. Good luck and take a kid and build out future......

It shouldn't be much longer till it gets green, the rivers getting lower by the day. If you don't mind me asking, did you try around the mouth of the Ivanhoe canal?

A comment titled: Redfish are easy to catch in response to a report titled: Vermillion Bay marsh reds

If you know where Delcambre is, there will be a knew dock opening up soon. From there, there is a vast amount of places to get a boat that size into to catch limits of reds. My buddy is from Delcambre and had a 14 footer that we caught our share of reds and bass in for many years. Also Lydia, Port of West St. Mary, Quentana, Don's, and Jean Marie landings will produce. I miss having that boat to get in some of the places We used to fish. I also recommend getting on Google earth and learn about drains not far from any dock you choose and get with the tidal patterns. I'm not feeding you a Line of Bull S&*%, but I am a true fisherman and won't give you exacts(sorry). Check out my posts. Been here a while and done well. Just humor me and take a kid!!!!!!!!! FYI my first boat was a 12 foot with a 9.9hp and I did my share of damage. Good luck and Fish-ON and above all 'Live as you would die tomorrow, But learn as you would live forever'

Assuming a Wild Black Panther did live that close to civilization, how did it get there? What food supply is keeping it there? And Why hasn't anyone seen one in the day time? July 5 of last year it was reported the a panther was spotted which ended up being a very large house cat. I grew up hearing stories of a panther living around Weeks.......as a child it entertained my imagination........ now after returning to this area, I ask the questions stated above before drawing conclusions. But in my opinion.....looks like a female about to drop, or a fat house cat exploring...

Was that East or West Cote Blanc? The Port of west St. Mary is the closest launch to west Cote Blanc. Has the water turned green yet?

Best bet for success now would be to find a lot of green really salty water near current areas. It's the later part of the spawn. But beware of the winds, the south side of Marsh Island and the Pass can get you in a bad situation FAST! I'd make a trip to Dularge and have more options.

To all!!! I'll tip my hat to aan Guide and Weekend Warrior that does well during none productive fishing conditions. Most of the anglers in the Dularge area are bless with a great fishery for Specs, Reds, and Bass/Sac-a-lait. For myself, 4-1/2 hours of traveling is well worth the trip to your area. I mostly fish near Weeks Island ( Vermillion Bay and Marsh Island) We don't have the marsh cinditions to create protected waters and the Achafalaya river gets cruel when she dumps massive amounts of muddy fresh water into our wide open bays. And yet, when the conditions are right (or CLOSE enough) the Point Landing becomes a parking lot nightmare. I feel if you spend enough effort in learning your area, then YOU will become productive. LEARN IT-LIVE IT-LOVE IT FISH-ON!!!!!

DOO-GN I'm sorry you haven't been catching, but Saturday afternoon a had a limit in about 20 minutes. Bayou Tigre is the first major canal on the right out of Delcambre. My best advice is ' Go With The Grub'. I've brought home 30 reds in 6 trips out of Delcambre since Wednseday afternoon last week. Good luck out there and take the kids!
