well made it back to camp this weekend to clean up and do some fishing .. got the final tally of ducks and actually did a lil better than we thought !! 39 hunts for a total of 380 ducks !! all ducks killed were from 1 lease and the same 3 blinds . as usual greys were our bread and butter duck !! for what its worth the ducks are stupid thick right now around !! we sat at camp sunday and just watched them pile into marsh all around by the hundreds .. pretty cool thing to see.. you can tell the ducks definately know the season is closed .. greys 236 pintail 6 widgeon 2 teal 10 dogree 111 hoodies 12 spoonbill 3
with the water being super low in the mornings its nice to sleep in and make some after noon hunts .. saterday and sunday did not have enough water to get in blind until 2;00 . but the ducks did not dissappoint.. 3 man limit of greys, and 2 dogs saterday. 6 greys and 6 dogs sunday .only hunted for 1 hr sunday as we had to clean up camp and get back in.. I know i say it all the time but it is crazy how the ducks dissappear for a few days and then just show back up again..
hunted before the front on tuesday and got a 3 man limit . saterday with no water we waited at camp until 9:45 when water came up and got into blind and it was lights out . had a 5 man limit by noon . with constant action and pretty close shots the kids all had a blast once again. 90 percent of the greys were all young fresh birds.. hopefully the cold cold fronts keep pushing down .
ducks have all but left our area the last week or so .. hunted saterday and sunday only killed 2 .. looked at duck log for first split and we killed 110 ducks so far ..thank God for first 2 weeks having the ducks . hopefully this 2 week break will get them back in the area .Also side note 2 of the only ponds that had this green slime grass last year, that grass is gone ,, and the ducks loved that stuff !!!!
well saterday hunt pretty much sucked , we seperated in 2 blinds .. me and one of my boys had 1 hoody with mt skies all morning , the other blind was my buddy and 2 kids , they ended up with 1 grey and only 2 other oppertunities to shoot ..so with the kids kinda discouraged we decided to all hunt together sunday ..and what a difference a day makes sometimes ... we smoked em with all kids having plenty chances to shoot ..the looks on their faces when they drop a grey out the air is just so awesome ..plenty hugs and hi 5s in the blind sunday morning
2 blinds hunted saterday , ten ducks from 1 and 15 from the other..mostly greys ... a few teal , pintail ,spoonies and dogree.. sunday hunt like most others dropped off ..I wasnt there but think they ended up with 15..all in all its looking like going to be another good season
well all the hard work getting the camp back to its location and ready paid of for the kids !!! they were able to kill 2 greys on saterday and missed quite few opertunities. due to the shakes and jitters ( duck fever). I was surprised to see the amount of birds we did !! spent the rest of the day letting them fight bull reds and drums,, they were all in bed for 6:30 saterday night.great weekend making memories with my boys !!
well we gambled and didnt go get the camp ,,, and lost to mother nature !!! another tough lesson learned !! hopefully she is floating somewhere , but dought it
whos ready to shoots some ducks in da head ? we getting everything prepted and ready. moved up from a nice comfy tent last year to a pretty lil camp ...got her moved last weekend to her new spot for the next few months . dressing blinds this weekend ,going to be ready for the youth hunt !!
ended the season with a 3 man limit on saterday , and high winds and no water sunday only had 1 .. but the greys have treated us well this year from first day to the last weekend we have killed really well .. until next season ill be fishing
5 man limit by 7:45 monday . 4 of us hunted tuesday had limit by 8:30 .. with every front more and more ducks are piling in on us .. what an awesome season down in the DU !!!
second split starting off great !! .. 2 blinds 5 man limit in the rain saterday .. all greys , 2 pintail , 2 teal , 1 red head ,, and 2 dogs that didnt make the pic lol . sunday different story 5 greys 2 teal 3 dogs .they still out there flying around but just a lil gun shy
every hunt weve made so far has been getting better and better ,hopefully it continues down in dularge . killed a pretty rare gem for out there also .
saterday ended up with 8 greys , 1 teal , 2 dogs and 3 hoodies,, sunday had 9 greys 1 teal, 3 ruddy ducks ,2 dogs, and 2 hoodies . Dularge .. one of the better opening weekends we've had in a while
Do you have any duck numbers yet ? Im hoping pretty good , been getting alot of good reports. thanks
hit em good again , tube jig and cork, and dropping jig on bottom through grass mats
fishing has been really fantastic lately ,kids have been having a blast !! most fish caught on flukes and speed craws, and black and short truess tube jig ..all in the bayou black area
took the family and a few of the kids friends fish yesterday afternoon .We were not disappointed as it was everycast literally !! where i fish in the bayou black area the water has been so high the last 6 months or so.Well it finallly has gone down and the fishing has been unreal lately ..Brought the boat but didnt launch it , all these fish were caught off of a bridge which made it real nice for the kids.. One of my sons said dad Im tired of catching fish ! never thought I would hear those words!! Didnt matter what bait they were biting on tube jigs, ,wacky worms ,flukes , speed craws ,basicly anything we threw!!! The look on their faces after was worth a million dolllars... an awesome and memorible trip with the family
Ill start off by saying my lease in pac has not been holding many birds ..So like last year i've been bouncing around with friends to find them.Ive made a hunt in bayou black and got a 3 man limit of greys cans and ring necks.. But we've really been making some good hunts at the wax where the ducks are tick tick !!heres a few picks from the wax
date hunted 11-28 .. looks like the ducks are showing up south of dularge !! shot our 2 man limit mostly greys,,and 2 margazers for a lil extra
congrats on a good season !! Im heading to the camp this weekend to clean up and do some fishing .. Excited to also look at the log and crunch the duck numbers , but I know we over 300 for the year , which is pretty good considering all ducks killed came from 3 blinds on 1 lease . You are definately right about lots of hunters giving up to early .. of course with no water for a lot of the 2nd split didnt help things out much . but a few of our better hunts in the second split didnt start until 2 pm when the water finally came up !!
cool video man .. hopefully the ducks will show up for yall this last weekend .. good luck
its been a little slower than normal for us this year .. Not the best but not the worst either .. weve hunted every weekend and usually 1 sometime 2 weekdays . looked at the duck tally this past weekend and we right at 300 ducks for year so far. with 75 percent being greys . weve had some really great hunts and also some not so good hunts .this weekend we only killed 3 greys. but what keeps us going is just as fast as they disappear they show back up where we at . our better hunts have been on south east /west wind .. side note me and a buddy each got a pretty male pintail weekend before last that going on the wall !!!
saterday morning was a crap show .. had mudboat issues so didnt get to hunt. was able to make a quick 1 hour afternoon hunt and killed 4 greys , before the rain started. sunday morning different ball game .with a ton of greys around was able to kill 14 ,1 teal and a dogree before we lost water about 9 o clock . the greys continued working but very hard to get them to commit when all your deeks are sitting on their sides . kinda of same deal as first split , hopefully the greys stick around >
dont know about a survey but there is definately a lot more birds down now then first split ..which is pretty normal for where we hunt in dularge . also heard a good report from the wax with more ducks also .. but you got to go to know , and if you a die hard like a bunch of us , you going to be out there regardless ..lol. hopefully ill have some good pics full of dead ducks come monday ... good luck to all this weekend and stay safe
lol thats pretty cool wiz
looks like some good hunts man congrats ,hope it continues for the second split
hopefully the ducks find that slime for yall ,like i said it worked for us and we shot a few widgeon also this year ... and pintail.. been years since we saw widgeon also .
its definately been a crazy season so far .. its been hit or miss for us , we killed 15 ducks from friday to sunday .. wiill see hopefully this front helps
thanks , mostly greys not to many teal and a few hoodies
well got her floating with the high tide wed. afternoon and and back to her current location !! kids are all excited for youth hunt tomorrow and first night in camp .. hopefully this next storm stays away !! fingers crossed
thats awsoeme gb3 ,hopefully they keep coming south with a crap load of ducks !!
oh yeah definately have to watch the tide out there , and haul all the brush for blinds ,, because there is none for miles around.. but put in the work and we were rewarded with great duck season last year !! headed back out wed and thursday to get camp off flat.. hopefully ill have some pics of us pulling it across water next time .
thanks for the advice swamp lizard!! we spent saterday afternoon digging a hole out to it with big mudboat and gatortail ... got the camp pulled to a better angle,, about 8 ft . but just ran out of daylight !! alot of boat power and elbow grease went into that 8 ft !!!! but we real close ,, hopefully a few more hrs of digging along the side will get her floating .. fingers crossed !!! this is what it looked like when we left saterday after noon
thank you jesus ,, they found the camp after all afternoon of searching, it was about 5 miles south of original location .. high and dry last island before it hit the gulf .. no damage wow .. now to find a way to get it off !!!
south of sister lake ,dularge
well she looked good the 2 weeks she was out there , but dam zeta wanted her more than we did !!!! so depressing

hey wiz , just curious .. not sure what the big deal is about shooting ducks on the water . i personally like letting them land and jump shooting them . I mean do you shoot a deer when its running or standing still ? lol i know you have one bullet verse a bunch of bb's . but same princible .. its an EASIER shot . but im also not the best shooter either ... sooooo that could have something to do with it to lol
