I would like to hear how people handle the age old problem of getting off a stand with deer very nearby. In my case my bow stand is near my feeder and there is no way I can climb down quietly enough for them not to see or hear me. My camera shows the does often staying around the feeder for a few hours after sunset. Thanks for your comments.

We filled our alligator lottery tags yesterday and I'm looking for a taxidermist who will tan the hides for me. Any suggestions? Putting this in the deer category as there is no alligator category. Thanks y'all!

Are trail cameras allowed on WMAs? I searched the pdf hunting regulations for 'camera' and nothing came up, so I assume it is legal to put out cameras (I know they may likely be stolen!). Thanks.

I'm looking to book a guided goose hunt in Southern Louisiana with 3 or 4 friends. I was thinking going with the conservation hunt. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a good outfitter? Thanks.

I would really appreciate some insight into the pros and cons of a tiller vs console mud boat. I don't have much experience with either. Thanks!

Starting 1 March I plan on hunting hogs at night on private land. I have a gen 1 night vision scope on an AR 15. I will call the local sherif each time I hunt. Any suggestions regarding strategy or bait?

Anyone have an idea what these deer are doing- I've got pics of multiple bucks doing this on this live oak branch, but it looks mostly like one buck.

December 12, 2013 at 1:09pm

I could use some help with points, score, age with this one. Thanks!

December 02, 2013 at 9:09am

Bucks are chasing does and fighting in West Fleciana . . . .

I'm interested in getting a wireless trail camera (one that sends photos to your smartphone) in order to limit the amount of time checking cameras and leaving a human scent trail. Any thoughts good or bad with various models would be helpful. Thanks

What is going on with this deer?

September 09, 2013 at 10:35am

Anyone seen any rut activity yet around Saint Francisville yet? I know it is a bit early but . . . .

December 07, 2012 at 10:39am

Folks- The last two months my cameras have had very few deer pics when usually they are filled (yeah mostly nocturnal). Is this just because the forage is so abundant with our early spring that they just don't need to move at all? Any thoughts y'all have would be much appreciated. A spike in March . . . ?

March 21, 2012 at 7:56am

What do you do when you are in your ladder stand, there are deer in your food plot that you don't want to shoot (does), and shooting light is over? Just climb down? Seems like the deer can pattern you darn well this way . . . . any thoughts or advice would be helpful.

January 16, 2012 at 1:19pm

What do y'all think, bobcat or house cat? A buck from same camera to give you size perspective.

January 04, 2012 at 7:54am

I was in my stand yesterday evening- saw no deer. Anyone seen bucks chasing does? The rut is supposed to be about to start about now . . . .

For those good at aging deer, any idea what age these two are?

Anyone using a Remington R25? If so what do you think?

I occasionally use doe estrus urine as a scent. As far as I can tell it has only definitely worked once. The question is does urine have a shelf life? Should it be bought 'fresh' every year or can you use it for several seasons. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

A comment titled: outlaw in response to a report titled: Aerial Hog Hunting

Outlaw quadraped pure and simple. Shoot'em all by all means. Eat what you want, buzzards can have what is left. I want the off my land for the deer, turkey, rabbits, native plants etc. They are destroying our beautiful Louisiana. Globally the most invasive species. Invasive pests. Period.

You must have a removable 'cap' on one end- how does that work? Thanks for the advice!

No scrape under that branch or even nearby that I have found. Thanks for the info!

A comment titled: thanks in response to a report titled: 16 point?

Thanks for the info. I was thinking 5-5 1/2 but your 4-4 1/2 seems reasonable and probably more likely as I'm poor at aging deer. I really appreciate it. I hope to get him during the rut . . . .

A comment titled: Thanks in response to a report titled: Wireless Trail Camera

Thanks for the info. Yeah I can understand having a love/hate relationship with one of these cameras. I still think it would be very useful and fun.

Yes the blotchy coat- I was thinking heavy tick infection or possibly mange.

I've been in the West Feliciana woods morning and afternoons for the last 3 days and it has been slow. No bucks chasing does that I have seen.

A comment titled: Thanks bigjim in response to a report titled: Do Estrus scents go bad?

Yeah that makes sense-biological compounds degrade. So why don't all these scents have 'use-by' dates or 'made on' dates. How do I know I'm not buying scents that did not sell last season?

Thanks. Those encouraging words are good to hear. At the very least being in the woods on a deer stand with this perfect weather has been enjoyable!

A comment titled: Navigable? in response to a report titled: First time Property owner

If the Tchefucte 'river' is not navigable on his land, and it does not sound like it is, then the public should not be able to access it. At least that is my understanding- is this correct?

A comment titled: thanks in response to a report titled: Beaver?

thanks for the comments. There is a lot of cut saplings in the area that I'm sure are beaver cuts with drag marks into the creek (no sign of dam on the creek) so that is why I thought this might be a beaver. Hopefully I'll get some better shots in the future.
