We got up on Sunday with a little less wind to start the day. So we headed to the lake wanting to catch some trout. Wanting to go fish East Timbalier Island but it was little rough for my group. I stop at few of the islands on the way. Jump around most of the morning catching few here and there not many keepers. Then the tide switched and we found the trout. We got on a great trout bite behind the island. Birds were diving everywhere. Put some nice fish in the boat, the only thing that stopped the trout bite was a school of bull red fish coming through. We would be catching trout 2 and 3 at a time and here they come. After catching about 40 trout and landing a pair of bull reds the bite was over. Moved down the same island to a point and there the keeper reds were. First cast, second cast, now I see double, Then sharks. Put 7 reds in the boat and played catch and release with 12 to 15 sharks we called it a day. All trout today were caught on live shrimp and Matrix Midnight Mullet. Reds were on live minnows. This boy had the time of his life and made memory's with his Dad, Mom and Grandpapa that he will never forget. At 10 this boy fish harder than most grown men. It was so much fun and glad I got to take them.
You got to come enjoy some of this great fishing call

We had a slow tide but this weekend in Leeville was good to me and some others.
Fridays trip starting off with mechanical problems. (check your water separater in the boat they rust quick)Got out a little late because of that looking into a south east wind at 15 to 20. Jumped all around looking for trout and could not find any. Changed gears and went red fishing. Stop at few spot and pick up 1, finally hit one spot and caught 14 in 45 minutes. At times there were 2 at a time coming to the boat. All caught with Live Shrimp. That turned out to be a great day for such a bad start.
Next day the wind laid down some so trout here I come. Turn the Ranger south and headed for the beach. Started in Fourchon then moved to the barges. Water was dirty on that side. Left there and when to East Timbalier anchored up and there they were. The Matrix Shad Lemon head bring them to the boat, very few of them we had to measure. After the first 25 we had to swap up to live minnows to finish up our limit by 11:00.
On Sunday took the family out for a few hours to catch dinner for that night when we got home. Pull in 25 on the east side of Leeville and headed back to camp to pack up and head home. Fresh trout for dinner is the best.
This is Louisianaâs fishing at its finest, got to come join me.

I have been asked many times lately about getting bait in Leeville. I believe there has been a post are two running around saying that there was no bait stores open in the Leeville area with bait. Mostly about one that is in question.
I am here to say Terry's Live Bait is open and has tanks are full of bait. Terry is a close friend of mine and I want to make sure everyone knows this. He is open now 6 days a week from 5:00 am to at least 4:00 to 5:00 pm. with Sunday the only day he closes early. He will also be open this Monday for the holiday and some other Mondays also as needed.
He has tanks full of live cocahoe minnows, live shrimp, and live croakers. There is market shrimp, frozen mullet and much more. Also he has an assortment of tackle on hand. We can't forget the ice machines full of ice. So there is no question he's open and has bait.
When you come down to this area or on your way south to Grand Isle are Fourchon. Stop by Terry's Live Bait to pick up your bait. Promise you he's open and will have bait. If there is any question about bait you can ask me.
Hope to see you on the water.
I have been telling you the Speckle Trout will show up. Well they are finely here. This past weekend we started catching them in good numbers. I had some caught on Monday with 25 keepers in my boat and the other boats having 38 and 44 for the day. I have reports boats bring in close to limits of trout all week. It has got better as the week went on. We have been catching them all in Timbalier bay from Fornation to East and West Timbalier. With it only getting better this weekend.
So if you're a Speckle trout hunter the wait is over for our area. Come on and join us in Leeville to get in on this great action.
Most of the trout are being caught on live shrimp and Lemon Head Matrix shad. Don't forget to stop by Terry's Live Bait for your live shrimp.

Saturday I had the pleasure of fishing with the father and son team Avents and two of their friends. We headed out to poke our nose into the lake to try and chase some trout. When we entered the lake we had a light west wind blowing in our face and the first wave hit us in the face and the water was like chocolate milk. My guess the wind was blowing hard all night while I was sleeping? We quickly changed gears and went back in the ponds in search for (Red Gold). I had them fishing with live minnows under a cork. This day we found under sized red fish everywhere. All day we moved from pond to pond trying to find some larger fish and that was had to do. We did do well for the day coming home with 12 reds, all the perfect size to eat. I can't even say how many we caught and had to release. Even with all the fish we were catching the only thing my group had on their mind was a sandwich so we ended the day a little early for lunch.

I had the pleasure again to take my youngest son Hunter fishing on Friday. Me and Hunters good friend Kalon came with us again. We went out to go fish this new pond for Red fish that I found on a prior trip. We started the day out cool with cloud skies and the wind blowing out of the NE at 15 or more. The water was really dirty. This made our day rough to start. We brought some live minnows with us and our 2 tons of baits between to two of us. It took us most of the day but we caught our fish. Ended up with 12 reds, tagged and released 3 or 4 and had 12 or more that were too small. With all the baits we had between the two of us, everything we caught was on Black and Chartreuse Vortex Shad and on live minnows. Any day on the water with your son and a good friend is a great day.

I had the pleasure of fishing with some returning customers from Cabelas in Gonzales and their 9 year old daughter. We had 2 boats out this day. Our day started out cold, wet, and windy, about 25 to 30 windy. The rain let up after a few hours and it warmed up a little thought out the day. We even got a little sun later in the day, but the wind never stopped. We still had a great day putting 14 reds in the boat and releasing 15 to 20 more, with daddy's little girl catching her first red fish and her first bull red fish. The second boat had a good day to with 17 reds and releasing 20 or so more. All in all we had a great day on a day with a special name 'Good Friday'.

The Trout will start their transition back down starting in and around March. This has other factors involved like weather, tides, and the salinity of the water. But March is the month that I call the Spring transition month. Now the later you wait into April and into may there should be more numbers of trout in those months.
The last few year the transition has been early into march with lot of numbers showing up at that time.
My predictions this year with all the cold weather we are getting that the transition will be later in March and into April. No That has to do with the amount of cold weather we have come.
I hope this helps you some.
Capt. Josh Ellender
Thanks for your tough on the motor's. We are captain and the reliability means allot. I have always ran Yamaha motors but mercury is trying to make me a good deal to outfit my new boat. But if it will cost me in the long run its not worth it.
Sometimes it is hard to change what is good to you.
One more thing how does it run in shallow water.
I would go to the china bayou area and fish the flat and cuts. Other area would be along bayou blue. i wish you all good luck.
That's some good information to here. that was some of the areas i heard of. I am going to check around this weekend my self.
Thanks,
If you fish the Leeville check out my You Tube Channel for Fishing reports on the area.
Channel is Spot On Fishing Adventures
Thanks rocknet. Yes that has been the basically the temps and they are rising. i was in the sulfur mine area on Saturday and the temp started off at 38 deg surface temp. by the middle of the day it was up to 40 deg. Trout can't live very long with the water temp under 40 deg.
I have heard of a few reports on that area ad just trying to ask around about it. I got a reports on some around the lake Rambo area also.
You are right on your whole comment.
Thanks again
You did a good job again Buddy
We had a great time that day's.
It started slow but ended fast. Keep drilling and we found gold.
Don't forget to check out my fishing forecast before you get on the water this weekend.
If your in Leeville and see me at the camp come say hey. See you on the water.
Dollar general store called THE WORK $1.00 a bottle. Put in Spay bottle and spray. The yellow comes right off. Them rinse with water. Cheapest and best thing i have ever used.
Lately the fish have been around the islands in the bays also out on the beach. If weather is bad we are catching red fish and some trout in the marsh. Most all fish are being caught on live minnows and shrimp. if your there Saturday there is a fishing rodeo 'casting for kids' at bobby Lynn's North. its a great time. Hope to see you there.
Great catch Capt. Vern it has been really windy latly and fishing has been tough in all the wind.
I am a charter guide out of Leeville LA. I would love to take you out in your frist inshore trip. I have some opening on the weekends for the dates your looking for. Please call me this afternoon are email me and we can talk about the date and etc. Looking forward to hering form you.
