Read on another webiste, there was a massive fish kill which had settled along the beaches from west of Fouchon to Elmer's Isle! It was stated that the stench was horrible...prior to and during the incident pogie boats/spotter planes reportedly were working the Gulf within a mile of the beaches! At the time, days before the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo-were were no picture/videos.

Anyone hear and/or see this in person?

If indeed true...hope the media has the cahoonas to do some coverage and the after-math!?!

NEED INFO: Can anyone post Pros/Cons for fishing the Grand Isle/Fouchon areas during the first two weeks of October? A group of us are planning an out of the ordinary fishing trip to Grand Isle/Fouchon---October 7th thru the 12th. Usually, we get together anytime between late May to July and we have never fished the area during the early fall months; therefore, we would like to get an idea of what to expect! Any/all info relative to surf fishing...Fouchon, Elmer's Island to 4-Bayous AND the north-side of the island as far north as Bassa Bassa, etc...THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE...John Castelluccio, jr.

Bad weather & high winds = no reports... so putting this out there!

Requesting ANY AND ALL input both positive and/or negative relative to the Minn Kota Saltwater/Riptide (Ulterra?) I-Pilot (36V w/60' shaft) with ALL THE BELLS/WHISTLES (handheld remote vs foot control AND the Auto Deploy/Stow features). I do realize that with these troll motors in 'anchor'/Spotlock' feature that the bow will always be into the wind and should stray from side to side due to both tide and winds.

ALSO...what about the 'Auto Deploy/Stow' feature?

We troll the MRGO, Trestles, Rocks, etc and wondering if having the foot control would give more 'hands-free' time as compared to constantly positioning with the remote!

We realize that the guides for the most part like the handheld remote due to the fact that they are assisting their client s and keeping them on the fish.

ANY/ALL INPUT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...John Castelluccio, Jr.

ORIGINAL QUESTION----

MY ORIGINAL QUESTION: Which tidal conditions, incoming vs dropping combined with wind direction of less than 10 mph IS BEST for fishing the surf, whether from boat or standing the surf? Are tide predictions for Caminada Bridge combined with moon phase ALL are players in fishing Elmer's???

Hoping for lots of experienced suggestions/answers. Thanks, John C.

BPitman86 : Our crew was originally 21...now down to 7 originals: 'Blue Dot' came aboard later along with Bobby S. Original location/camp (1988-2005) was at the end of Foster Lane (Judge Herb Gautreaux)---camp was totally destroyed/gone by Katrina...one remaining piling still there as a tribute/memory The new land owner (last name Vidrine) has built a one of a kind 'camp' close to 4,000 sq ft. - 6 bedroom, two story with 3rd level sun-deck area. He actually built a beach between his ground-floor slab and the water alongside a section of his very well lighted 300' oval pier/deck. We were staying in a 'local' sheriff's' camp which recently has been sold. This year we are in a bay-side camp past Elmer's Island. If you know Dot's number...give him a call...may be able to come down spend the day and have just a few drinks and unlimited food!

SIDE NOTES...Shell-Beach/Hopedale: Wednesday afternoon trip...almost one-man limit, yesterday...nearly 40 trout and today 16 trout BUT MAINLY there today to help some people (Beauregard Estates) and their friends of my fishing buddy get their boats on trailers IF THEY have to evacuate over this weekend! ADD THIS TO OUR PROBLEMS WITH THE CCA... Re: Tommy Vidrine Observations on Pogey Baots in Grand Isle/Bell Pass May 30 at 12:11pm...YOU TUBE VIDEO.... https://youtu.be/Ch0RwJna-t0 Here is the link to the March, 2020 article which appeared in 'SPORT FISHING' Magazine. https://www.sportfishingmag.com/story/game-fish/menhaden-seiners-killing-louisiana-red-drum/ I brought up this info at the Metairie Wildlife Meeting and was 'pushed-side'! I forwarded the article to another 'LAS poster' who likewise brought up the same article/info at the meeting he attended within the following week or two. Basically, two FOREIGN POGIE COMPANIES (Canada & Africa) reported that they removed 2.2 BILLION pounds of pogie from the Gulf of Mexico and of that...90% came from Louisiana waters. There are NO FEDERAL/STATE OBSERVERS aboard during this processing. SOMEHOW...they are 'allowed a by-catch/incident' rate of FIVE PERCENT...go figure 5% of 2 BILLION POUNDS of which the bulk are brood-stock redfish, trout, TURTLES, drum, flounder, etc... This 'reported amount' comes directly from these two companies with no one questioning their figures. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS NO LIMIT/QUOTA ON THEIR CATCH hindering their operations! These two companies surely have 'DEEP-POCKETED LOBBYIST in Baton Rouge to allow this without any resistance from Federal., Gulf States and/or Louisiana Marine and Fisheries officials! W H Y ???$$$??? LWF meeting earlier today...Pre-meeting a LAS poster 'contacted' the CCA and was told they are looking into the above incident! R E A L L Y ???

R.I.P. Mike Lane. DEFINITELY ONE OF A KIND! I will always remember the dinners you invited me to at your house in Algiers! You always spared a few minutes with me while I was 'working' the area of your home. Remember you attending a function on the Lakefront by the 'old Coast Station' hosted by Stanley Fink...a lot of good time nd funny stories were exchanged there! Never-ever a dull moment! A comment titled: Re: Tide Magazine 2020 in response to a report titled: Tide Magazine 2020

According to the original article in THE SPORT FISHING MAGAZINE...these two foreign- based companies (Canada and South Africa) HAVE NO REGULATIONS/NO LIMIT AS far as allowable tonnage to be caught. THE ONLY report of what they 'say was caught' IS SUBMITTED BY THESE TWO COMPANIES...LAST YEAR 3/4 BILLION POUNDS!???! Apparently, no State/Federal 'observers' aboard these vessels!?! The only regulation is that they are allowed to have on-board 5% of TOTAL CATCH...NOT COUNTING THE UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF KILLED/OVERBOARD BY-CATCH (trout, redifsh, snapper, cobia, croaker, etc, etc....)! THERE MUST BE A REASON THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS IS NOT ALLOWED ALONG THE ATLANTIC/EASTERN SEABOARD!

March 10 at 1:05am

Hope all on this thread actually go to one of the meetings, voice their opinions instead of staying behind a keyboard and waiting for input from others!!! Tonight, LWFD meeting at the Jefferson Parish Library had over 200 attendees...!

February 19 at 11:32pm

I knew when I sent you the article you would become infuriated...article initiated by a Venice, LA charter-guide to the 'Sport Fishing Magazine' which is a national and possibly an international magazine. The guide also furnished pics of the pogey operation working just off the Louisiana-coast. Grand Isle is annually impacted by these pogey-companies. What ever powers in Baton Rouge (elected officials) are allowing Omega-Canada and Daybrook-South Africa unlimited/unrestricted amounts of pogy to be caught with ONLY stipulation of a maximum of 5% by-catch. That is a lot of breeder-redfish, trout, drum, etc, etc to be uselessly killed, ,harvested and often discarded! The companies themselves 'submit what they catch' and last year, reported over 3/4-BILLION POUNDS OF POGEY CAUGHT...775,000,000,000-pounds JUST OFF THE COAST OF LOUISIANA!!! 5% is alot of redfish, trout, drum, croakers, etc....PLUS they are removing an important and staple food source for trout. Omega/Daybrook lobbyists in Baton Rouge have very deep pockets and has been bringing it to Baton Rouge AND WILL CONTINUE. Went to the meeting in Metairie tonight and forwarded you the 'slide-show/presentation' by the LWFD!

MY BIGGEST PERSONAL GRIPE WITH IGNORANT FISHERS: WHY GRAB ANY TROUT/REDFISH WITH A TOWEL, RAG, ETC other than plastic gloves, BOGA GRIP, etc...DOING MORE HARM---ESPECIALLY IF THAT FISH IS UNDERSIZED AND HAS TO BE RETURNED! MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AJ: I thoroughly enjoy your videos. It was brought to my attention during one of your recent videos someone said to the effect...'maybe post when the weather gets bad...Please, keep up your videos...I have some very deep rooted memories with my dad fishing along THE TRESTLES going back some 60+ years. Karl, I send out pics (GOOD & BAD TRIPS with notable background shots) of my fish and not just pics 'HOLDING A FISH' ---! I have never posted/nor intend to of any of my trips/nor pics on this site nor the older RnR site since 1999! I may post after you send a VIDEO while fishing the Reggio-area!?! ps....I have 18 trout from yesterday's trip to THE WALL yet to be cleaned!!!
