Just a heads up and I'm sure some people may know by now, but last Saturday my uncle and I hit something under the water just East of the first rock barge in Fourchon. It was definitely metal and tore up our prop and bent the prop shaft. It was very close to the surface. Im not sure what it was exactly, but just wanted to give people a heads up. It was pretty much in the vicinity of where boats travel East to West and vice versa. I didn't think to get a GPS reading at the time.

Although we hit something, we caught some really nice Trout on the beach!

Dear capt paul,
I've recently purchased a lowrance hds 7 with insight. I took it out in the hopedale area this weekend. The maps are totally off. I was under the impression it would have Most of the major marsh and bay areas, well I was wrong. It don't even show the twin pipeline. Lake Amadee is way off etc... What can I do to correct this?

This would be my best guess. Its just east of the last rock barge. Its basically where you would run traveling west to the rocks from grand isle. Hope this helps.

I like and use the Shimano stuff. You can do a Sahara for not a whole lot, or go with the Stradic Ci4. I love mine, its just a little pricey. I've had it for a while and its still going strong. 2500 or 3000 size in Shimano is great for trout and some reds. I will say a few years back I went out on a limb and bought the Quantum EXOPT spinning reel in size 30. That thing is a beast and very light. Has like 20 lbs of drag. I dont think they make it anymore, but the smoke is almost identical. Hope this helps.

If you go the casting reel route, kinda hard to beat the Lews regular ole 90$ one. The cheapest one is one of my favorites actually.
