Hunted with 3 friends Sunday, killed 8 specks and one snow

November 28, 2011 at 3:14pm

does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy 4 wheeler tires? i am looking for the best price on some super swamper vampires, but i will consider other tires for a better price if the tread is just as good. i use it strictly for rice field hunting, not tearing up mud holes. its a honda fourtrax 300 4x4. im in SWLA but has a friend in the baton rouge area and my dad goes to lafyette for work a lot so anywhere not to far off I10 from lake charles to baton rouge would be considered

went juggin in the mermentau by lowry. we caught 16. we didnt find the fish until about an hour before the trip was over. if we would have found them earlier we could have easily doubled our catch. nothing really big, but all good size to eat. here is a pic of the biggest

my dad russell(of specklebelly hunting club) went out of town this weekend with my little brother deer huntin but i stayed behind to hunt geese. im glad i did, 2 more bands! me and my 2 buddies killed our 3 man limit of dark geese(we had one canadian which was banded) plus 3 eagleheads. we were expecting a little fog this morning for another snow massacre, but no fog but we still managed to get one group in. glad to see my friend dave got his first band, a speck, but steven didnt have as much luck. that makes 5 bands in the past 2 hunts out of the same blind

January 23, 2010 at 12:02pm

had a fun, but very short speck hunt this morning. limited out at 6:49 am. one bunch lit about 20 yards from the blind and we opened up on em. dropped our 4 man limit right there! hey duck enticer, there are birds everywhere by where you said your blind is

January 17, 2010 at 10:44am

i took my girlfriend on an afternoon hunt in klondike. killed my 2 specks at about 5 pm. after seeing how pretty specks work, she wanted to stay and kill more and she now wants to get her a license and hunt them with me. i had to tell her that was my limit though and we had to go. she has to wait til next year for her hunter education though. left em flyin

January 13, 2010 at 8:43pm

i would like to know if there are any wma's that offer any waterfowl hunts for our older sportsman here in louisiana? i think that cameron prairie, and lacassine does that. is there any other wma's out ther that offer any waterfowl hunts for our older sportsman? i know that we're lucky to have alot of public land hunting, but lets face it, it's very tough hunting. what happens when our bodies will not allow us to go through the harsh conditions out there when we get in our late 50's or more? are we simply suppose to just stop doing something we've done and enjoyed all our lives, or do we go anyway and then end up dead from a heart attack or somehing like that. I'm just wondering if we can put aside some easy access property on these public land places for our older sportsman. would like to see DU or DELTA WATERFOWL put some moey into a project like that. i'm not trying to come down on any particular place out there, i just want to see these guys catch a break, one day it will be us!!! any info on wma's that have this sort of program would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

April 26, 2009 at 9:56pm

just wanted to share this great picture with everybody. also i am by no way claiming i killed these. i had nothing to do with this hunt. my cousin and his friends killed these birds in the basin swamp. i was unfortunately not there. have no clue any specific details either because i am not familiar with that area. i just thought this was a cool picture being it was a pretty strap and the best outboard ever made. i have a mega too so im happy about that

made a fun speck hunt with some friends in welsh in the fog. ended up with 15 specks 2 blues 2 snows 2 eagleheads and 1 ross goose. hunted out of our new layout blinds (christmas presents) and had some close shots. definately funner to me the huntin out of pits. that fog and cloud cover made for a dark day, we could not pick out the generals. every group we shot into, we managed to drop nothing but the juvies! kinda disappointing but still fun. one of the blues tried to lite where my layout was! very cool to see him about 3 foot over my head. definately will remember this hunt forever, just wish my dad wasnt bein a lightweight and bein sick. nah he has the flu but i think when he saw our strap it worked better than medicine

January 04, 2009 at 10:31pm

Me and a buddy made a hunt in welsh this mornin. specks didnt want to come to the spread of snow and blue decoys but we managed to get a couple. We ended with 2 specks, 5 eagle heads, 6 snows, 1 ross goose, 1 greenhead, and 1 pintail hen. had a lot of fun

December 18, 2008 at 3:38pm

how did everyone do in lacassine? i didnt hunt there saturday because i went goose hunting in welsh but my buddies hunted and killed 8. i hunted this morning and killed one greenhead. no ducks! didnt talk to anyone who saw a lot of birds. anyone do any good either day?

December 14, 2008 at 6:06pm

Saturday was a good hunt in lacassine. after a rough boat ride due to heavy rain and having to stop and bail out the boat, we came out with good numbers. 5 of us hunted and come out with 27 birds. mostly teal, few greys, few mottled ducks, few spoonies, and 1 greenhead(if i remember right, will post picture later) should have had our 30 but we were down to 4 guns. buddy decided to get a cheap automatic and it bit his ass all mornin. after about the 6th shot with a brand new gun, that POS tri-star broke into pieces. left at 9 cuz i had to be at work. we didnt hunt sunday. teal sure are good in a gravy

December 01, 2008 at 11:09am

Fun hunt in Lacassine Wednesday, leaving with 9 teal, 4 mallards, 2 mottle ducks, 2 woodies, 3 spoonies...poor shooting early kept us 4 ducks short of our limit.

November 28, 2008 at 10:59am

There is no doubt that lead shot is much better as far as knock down power, but with todays steel loads, if you can't kill a duck or a goose because of the shell, you need to give up!

A comment titled: Geese in response to a report titled: conservation goose hunts

The guy who said you can't go wrong with an e-caller must never hunt geese. Snow geese will NOT just come in your spread just because you have a caller cranked up. Snow geese usually hit a field for 2-5 days depending on the size of the flock, size of the field, and how bad they destroy it. If you can catch them when they are using your field, you can kill a pile of them. Other than that, you just put out a big amount of decoys for nothing. The best time to kill snow geese in SWLA is on a foggy morning. If there is a big body close to you and its foggy, you should do well. We have killed limits of specks with a pile of bonus snows and it was over about a dozen speck decoys and 2 or 3 snow decoys. I hunt geese south of Welsh and in Klondike. My dad owns a guide service and just will not do these hunts. People get hyped up for them and they aren't what they are cracked up to be. If you really want to do a conservation hunt, you need to visit a northern state such as Missouri or Arkansas.

We reccommend #2, #3, or even #4. We will be shooting decoying birds, no skybusting. We recommend that you do not use BB, BBB, or T. The bigger shot does not pattern well for close birds

Darrel, my dad has been in Texas deer hunting since Thursday. I hunted tuesday with 2 guys and we killed 6 specks. That's correct Duck Enticer. Just because you don't see everyone in the picture doesn't mean they weren't there. Let's not always jump to a wrong conclusion when a fellow sportsman posts a report

i used to shoot a few in lacassine reserve. they are very good to eat. i would see a ton during teal season and it seems like they would leave once it got cold. a few hang around though

A comment titled: Quackhead in response to a report titled: New Spec Call

RolandC, I had a quackhead that sounded pretty good. I was impressed a lot after blowing it at my house especially for the price. But when I got in the field and that reed got slightly cold, it was locked up. Didn't sound worth a crap. I tried roughing up the soundboard just a little and it still would lock up in the cold. I was so disappointed I gave it away. I had a friend with the same issue, and we both bought them at the same time from academy. Have you heard of this issue before?

Redbone and riceland are almost identical. I have a redbone but if I bought another one I would go riceland just bc the builders are local versus Hemphill Texas. I will attempt to post a pic of results of a redbone and a primos calling side by side if I can from my iPhone

A comment titled: Bbankston in response to a report titled: electric starter

The 30 and 25 are the same motor except for a few differences, which includes teeth on the flywheel. To put a starter on the 25, you will need a flywheel off a 30. They are compatible. If it was me, I would sell the motor for about 3200 to an Arkansas guy who hunts bayou meto. That's about 2300 more than that motor is actually worth. Get the money while you can and buy a fuel injected motor and not worry about carb cleaning again

August 21, 2011 at 9:38pm
A comment titled: 25 in response to a report titled: electric starter

I could be wrong but I don't think the 25 3 cylinder has a toothed flywheel. If not you can't put electric start. Arkansas people were paying top dollar for those motors. You may want to advertise and sell it on craigslist on there end. Use the money to buy a fuel injected motor or 4 stroke

yea your right i shouldnt have made that general statement. i didnt necessarily mean lawyers the way i said it, just using that as an example. they have crooked people in all professions. maybe we should get politicians off this website?

A comment titled: Politicians in response to a report titled: mouton pleads guilty in plea deal!!

You will find them working there rear off in a blue collar job. But they probably wouldn't be 'smart' enough to do be a politician though. Instead let's elect a lawyer who came from a rich family who knows nothing about working hard and struggling

Instead of adding trim tabs try hooking the hull. I would NEVER add unnecessary weight to my boat such as sandbags

A comment titled: Jet ski in response to a report titled: Do you think jet skis should be allowed on WMAs?

Not at all. They can be a severe nuisance to fishermen. I'm not against people riding on public waters, even though it can be severely annoying, it is a right. But WMA's are for wildlife first and foremost, then for sportsmen to enjoy this wildlife. Not for individuals to cause mayhem on jet skis. There are plenty of places to ride jet skis, KEEP THEM OFF WMA's!!!
