I wrote a little about my daughters first duck hunt on on youth day. Youth duck hunts are a great way to get them involved , the ducks haven't been that pressured and it gives them a great opportunity to bag a duck.

I am looking for some deep water 36 inch crawfish set nets. Just like the one in the photo but bigger. I though someone in Slidell was selling them but i cant find any info.
Seems like a lot of hunters are having a bad duck season. Thereâs always talks about surface drives and pressure, weather, lack of feed in the area to many duck dynasty wannabes, season starts to early, no water and lack of public access. If your trying to feed your family with ducks you should probably fish more. I often ask my self is it worth it? Does the money I spend on gas, gear, licenses and shells pay for the ducks I harvest. The answer is NO. Is seeing the sunrise on the marsh, seeing my kids shoot their first duck, getting their first limit worth it. Absolutely priceless. This is want most of us enjoy, opening day is like Christmas morning for us duck hunters. I donât know about you but I donât sleep the night before opening day. I am going to keep hunting and doing what I love to do. I am going to go out there as often as I can even though I may only come home with a duck or two I will keep going. Because we will always have good days with limits and days we get skunked but at least we are out there trying, doing what we love to do.
Question? How late do you stay out while duck hunting? Some people leave at 7:30 AM if nothing is flying some hang out until noon?
Has anybody been to the pier dock area at the end of Main street? I remember seeing some damage there last year. I was thinking about doing some bank fishing this weekend out there.
We did not see any teal last weekend along the NShore. Fishing was slow so i paddled around some duck ponds. I will keep fishing until the end of the month and then make a blast and cast trip on the nshore.
I only keep the trout they stock in the winter time.
Last weekend we fished around the mouth of Cane, Lake P was very clear, I looked down and seen a big old gar looking at our redfish we had on a stringer.. I may paddle out of Cane again this Saturday and fish for bass and reds. If you see an old coon ass man in a camo canoe thats me.
To bad i dont have video of her falling out the boat! We do have fun fishing and I am glad she comes with me. She hunts to but cant stand the cold
I went right after they reopen and caught two sacks with 14 nets in about 3 hours and that includes my walk out there. Around the weekend of may 4 like 504225BOY said there was lots of dead crawfish near the edge of the ponds. in other ponds looks like the O2 was low and they where trying to get out or climb up to breath. Caught a half sack in 2 hours and gave up. Dead fish in some of the ponds and water was warm. I am not going back this year.
i enjoy catching some goggle-eyes. the suck down my small peg float with a big gulp. not much of a fight sometimes they just give up and you can drag them in.
southfarm is closed and they are about to close pearl wma.
Thanks for the sac-a lait tips. I started targeting them this spring myself. I went once to Southfarms and i am ready to go back. I have seen photos and it looks like the water is going down. I have some deep set nets ready to go. I emailed WLF a couple weeks ago and they said it maybe a couple weeks before it reopens so that should be soon. If not I will have to go find some spots in Honey island
Not a baton rouge group but facebook does have LAFB Inshore its Louisiana based, inshore fishing reports and discussion
Mandevillian
That is a long paddle to get to where you hunt. I paddled in the lake a few times it is not easy. Last time i did i said i am to old for this and i am not doing it again. Paddling in protected bayous is one thing but in the lake with wind and waves is tough. I am sure the non motorized area will be packed. Good luck.
We have so many in SELA i am thinking about staying in the Lake and setting longline decoys and targeting divers.
I duck hunt Joyce in the LAA. Itâs hard work. I have gotten stuck and had to walk pull my canoe out thick mud. You sink quickly. I can see how someone could get worn out and drone
It was foggy but I rather fog than the clear skyâs we been having. Not much I could see flying but I could see a few here and there. Look for one on a island and I turned around to see my canoe drifted away. The marsh is beautiful but when you walk some nasty smells come up LOL
Of course gun was in the canoe and ducks a buzzing me while walking in the water. Was a good day
Those teal always have a way of knowing which way you looking so they can sneak up from the other side. Last time i hunted during a break nothing flying i grabbed me some coffee and had a pop tart in the other hand 7 or so BW teal came straight at me about 5 foot of the water before i could move they was gone.
Lot of hunters say pressure is higher due to all the Duck Dynasty wannabes. But according to the servery hunter numbers dropped after 2012 the year the show started.
I took my first Black Belly duck a week ago along the north shore marsh. Never seen or heard one there before that day. I see them all the time before teal season and in one area i hunt every day about 15-20 minutes before shooting time they fly out. I can hear and see them sometimes leaving the area they must sleep in the woods during the day.
I would paddle an hour across big branch but the lease is in the way!
I have been trying to look for something new to marinade the ducks in. I use milk for a day or so, even before freezing them just rinse them off good before freezing. We have been frying them up same day or next day this season. I will try some coke next time. Thanks for sharing
You did better than me. Since my boat is down I paddled east of lake road with the wife. We had some birds early and then nothing. Seems like most of the shooting was east at the no motor pipeline. She did miss some easy shots ducks on the water type shots but we did see much birds. Had a rough paddle back into the wind it was about that time she said spend what you need to fix the boat.
your right about the woodies Mandevillian. They had loads of them in teal season and i didnt see any opening morning flying at first light. It wasnt until later some passed me. But the week before opening day they was still out there for the youth hunt
I was curious about lake road. I was thinking about going their Friday morning looking for specs and reds. Maybe by Friday the north wind will start blowing the water out.
