Itââ¬â¢s been really rough in Grand Isle lately and Tuesday looks like more of the same. Strong SSE winds in the forecast. If you go on a calmer day, then yes shrimp under a popping cork is what I would use. Shrimp are plentiful on the beach right now. One of my sons friends and her dad threw the cast net and caught an ice chest and a half of big shrimp this past week . Have fun but be vigilant as far as safety. Local boy just drowned in Grand Isle.
We used to see people catching them by the Elmerââ¬â¢s Island bridge. Not sure if they are still catching them there. We used to catch plenty at Elmerââ¬â¢s Island in the cuts but they have been scarce the last few years.
We are new to offshore fishing as well. Went out of Fourchon a few weeks back. We used cut squid and caught a few ladyfish with it. We used a 6/0 circle hook ( not offset) on a 30# flourocarbon leader baited with cut squid and chunks of ladyfish. We caught a couple of small ARS, a Spanish mackerel, hard tail and spade fish. We went back the next day and all we got was sharked. We have a 22ft Gravois so went canââ¬â¢t go out too far. Good luck!
If you are looking for minnows, before you get on The leeville bridge, throw your cast net in any other the little canals of water next to the light posts on the right hand side of the road. Usually full of minnows. Good luck!
