Well I’m currently sitting in the Amite River swamp waiting on teal. I was covered up in woodies at daybreak and seen a pair of Mexican squealers fly by around 7:20. Anyone seeing/shooting teal?

September 12 at 7:50am

I was behind the island on the south end of false river this morning catching gar and seen a flock of 13 blue wings along the shore. They are in the state! Can’t wait! Anyone else seeing teal?

False River is high and muddy and bass fishing has been tough this weekend. Only managed to catch 6 bass in 3 mornings. 2 fish caught on a black Picasso buzz bait with red blades before 7am. Other 4 were caught on a pb&j chatter bait. This lure is now my go to muddy water bass catcher.

The water is much better this weekend than the last. Bass are chasing shad and I was able to fool them with a live target golden shiner. Caught several 10-11” fish but did boat 5 between 14 & 17”. Should be good fishing this week between the rains.

Anyone been fishing this pier? Thinking about making a morning trip here soon. Thanks.

June 20 at 10:28am

Bassin has been a challenge this weekend in false river due to muddy water. I tried 14 different lures and finally started getting strikes on a pb&j colored chatter bait. I had to put a trailer hook on it to get the few I caught in the boat. Tough fishing.

I’m on False River right now chasing bass and just wondering if anyone has ever hunted ducks here. Is it legal? Reason I’m asking, I’m covered up with tree ducks on the south end around the island, they must be nesting back here. It seems like one could shoot steel shot on this south end and not hit any dwellings if you set up a blind where you would fire toward the East or south. Well anyway just wondering and let me get back to the fish.

Just heard something about having to get a HIP certificate online this season. Anyone know about this? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

The bass are chasing Shad in the cypress cove canal on the north end. White spinner bait with gold blades produces fish early and late in the day. During the day with the sun out, head to the Chenal canal and use a grape worm wacky rigged with no weight. At night the booyah red ant spinner bait is still putting fish in the boat. Good fishing.

June 01 at 12:36pm

From dusk until the sun comes up, a wacky rigged grape worm under the docks is catching bass. After the sun comes up, head for the canals on the south end with a sexy Shad crankbait. Good fishing.

I’m going to try Saturday morning for my three. Hoping to cook them down with a few onions and eat over rice. Anyone else chasing squirrels this weekend?

April 28 at 6:16am

The rapala x rap in clown color seems to be the money bait for bass once the sun is out. After dark the black buzz bait around the lighted docks is producing. The bass are chasing Shad late in the afternoon in the cypress cove canal on the north end and can be caught on white spinner baits or white flukes, but the fish are small. Good fishing.

April 25 at 6:45am

Bass biting wacky rigged grape colored plastic worms under docks late in the afternoon and chartreuse or fire tiger crankbaits in the South end canals during the morning hours. Striper bite starting to pick up in deep water around the lighthouse canal using dead shrimp on the bottom.

Any reports on the primitive weapon season in tunica? I haven't heard of any kills.

Just wanting to hear some reports (good or bad) on deer hunting during the Thanksgiving weekend. I spent the long weekend chasing ducks and now thinking I should have been chasing deer.

Opening morning and waiting on woodies in the swamp. Can't wait! Anyone else out this way? Hope we all see some birds, good luck.

I just bought my new duck gun, a Browning silver 3.5. I've shot some #2 steel through the factory chokes but have holes in patterns at 40 yards. Let me know what chokes and ammo work for ducks in your gun. I think I'm good for decoy range but need a 40+ yard choke tube and steel shotshell combo. Thanks.

Hey guys, I'm going to retire my old beat up 11-87 and buy a new duck gun. Please give me a few to check out and what you like about them. Thanks.

Anyone have a conservation hunt scheduled? I want to book a hunt if you know of a productive guide/area. Thanks.

Made a hunt Sunday morning in the Amite river swamp. Only got one Drake Woodie and only seen about 10 ducks total. Maybe next season....

I ain’t shot one teal. They weren’t anywhere around me this season, I heard lots of reports but the only teal I seen in range was before season while fishing.

My buddy has scouted pearl river wma this past week and spotted a few flocks. He said one flock had over 2 dozen Blue wings. Spanish lake in st Gabriel is holding some birds also.

I wonder how many splits?

A buddy called me this morning and told me to meet him at Spanish lake on the 12th. He has been seeing small flocks of blue wings there since after Laura passed. Must be from SW Louisiana?

Cool front scheduled for the 9th. Business should pick up then. I’m thinking the 17-20th will be the best of early teal. Good luck to all

Love those squealers, just wish the LDWF would let us at them during September teal season. They are long gone where I hunt in November.

Clear creek wma in Vernon parish is nice to hunt before rifle season. I’ve had good luck along the little redbank creek.

That’s the truth, squealers everywhere! I wish the powers that be would turn us loose on them during September teal season. It would be nice if we could target another duck besides teal.
