I want to take my kids crabbing. I have a boat and don't mind traveling. I live in BR and was thinking about going to Bayou Lacombe and crabbing at the mouth of the lake or in the canal but I heard the crabs aren't really there. I was hoping some of you could give me ideas where to go. I have done really well at Grand Isle, but that is far but if I have to I will go there. Thanks in advance.

We have had a couple nice trips lately. On the first one we started out qith live shrimp as the preferred bait. Once we ran out we finished our limit with DOAs. We left them biting. A few days later went back and got 60 more. We ran out of shrimp again and they wanted nothing to do with plastic.

I let my son's friends borrow my Alumacraft 16 ft flat and they hit a stump pretty hard and put a large dent in the bottom and popped out a few rivets. I need to get it repaired and I live in Denham Springs. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone to repair it? Thanks for your help.

As a rule, will deer come into a field if cows are present? My son hunts a rye grass field and the cows are now in it. Just curious as to what everyone's experiences are?

This past Sunday was unreal. My son and I met Capt'n Kris Roberts at Dockside Marina and we headed for the trout and man did he put us on them. It was by far one of the best trips I have been on in a very long time. We were double up a good bit of the morning. If the rain hadn't run us off, there is no doubt we would have put our 75 in the box. We ended up with 44 and didn't have to measure one of them. If any of you need a great trip at a very affordable price, get in touch with him. He is very professional and patient. It is worth every penny.

I need a 4 wheeler mechanic in the Baton Rouge area that can replace a CV Boot on my front axle. Does anyone know of a good mechanic in the area that I won't have to take out a mortgage on my house just to get this replaced?

My son and I duck hunt in Monterey. My son is looking for somewhere to occasionally deer hunt around there. He is a Freshman at Louisiana College in Pineville and is will be very respectful of your land or club. I have no interest in deer hunting. If you have any land or club that would allow him to hunt a few times this season I will be happy to pay or trade duck hunts. Please call me at 225-933-2358 or email me if you have or know of anything in the area. Thank you very much.

I have a friend whose son shot a green wing teal this season and his dad promised to get it mounted. Well, the bird was shot up too bad to be mounted and now the son keeps asking about it. Does anyone out there have a mounted green wing teal that you want to get rid of or one in the freezer that he can get mounted. Thank you very much.

We have three families going to Grande Isle this summer, preferably June or July, and am looking for a large enough camp to hold 18-20 people. I have looked on some rental websites but wanted to try the La. Sportsman for recommendations. Any places we should avoid, ie bad experiences? Any places that were excellent? Also, we would prefer to be on a canal to dock our boats. Our next choice is the beach. But will entertain every recommendation. Thanks.

I am going to Portland, Orgeon next week for work and was wondering what are some 'Must See's and Do's' while I'm there. I have never been there before and will have some time in the evenings and weekend to look around. Also, if anyone has a duck hunting friend that wouldn't mind me tagging along, that would be great and I will be happy to swap a hunting trip or fishing trip down here. So, if any of you have been there before, post up. Thanks.

We have had a great first split. The best first split our blind has ever had. We hunted our pit 7 out of 8 days and killed 157 ducks. We had an average of 4 people in the blind. We only lost 4, but without my lab, we would have lost at least 40. Steel shot just don't kill. It just wounds and you have to chase the duck. For you that don't have a dog, I can't stress enough how much fun they are to watch work, not to mention your recovery rate goes way up.

November 28, 2011 at 3:20pm

We had the best opening weekend I have ever had. The ducks were everywhere. We had 5 hunters each day and we were limited out both days by 7:45. Each day we had a mixed bag of teal, greys, spoonies, mallards, pintail, and redheads which are very unusual. We were hunting south of Vidalia in a rice field.

Yes, you can run it but if you never have I would highly recommend getting to Breton Sound early and following boats out. There are some areas that if you veer off the main channel, you will have a very bad day. Don't attempt to run out there unless you are following another boat.

In my opinion, there is no way a V6 can handle a 23ft boat. I have a 24ft Bay Stealth and I have an F150 5.4 v8. It's not enough engine but I'm not going to buy a F250 just to pull the boat 20 times/yr. I will never have a truck without 4wheel drive again. It is a life saver for situations such as you are talking about.

A comment titled: I Agree in response to a report titled: Classifieds

I couldn't agree more. I have tried for a very long time to get La Sportsman to create a section exclusively for businesses to post ads of their products. I will never buy anything from a business that I have to scroll through a pic of every nut and bolt they sell. It's beyond aggravating.

A comment titled: Business Ads in response to a report titled: Classifieds

I can tell you that the business ads are way more aggrivating than the scammers. I know when a deal is too good to be true, but to have to go through 57 ads from .... is a major pain. Please, please put a tab somewhere that these businesses can put all the classified ads they want to and if I need one of their services or products, I will click on the tab and go look at what they have to offer. Some of the ones I'm referring to are Big-Bucks-Trucks, Catch Dat Too, Bayou Auto Sales, Moby Marine, GeauxBassBuckNDuck, Boardwalk Motors, etc. I probably left out a few as well. There should be a page or something for businesses that want to list their complete inventories, but the classifieds should be for individuals with one or two things to sale. I notice that other businesses have ads that you can click on, maybe these businesses should do the same. BTW, thanks for a great site.

A comment titled: Out of State in response to a report titled: Buying a boat from Out of State

I bought a boat from my paw in law a few years ago from Ms. It was a nightmare getting the paperwork done. I don't really remember the particulars, except for the fact that I swore I would never buy another boat from out of state. It's not like a car, where you only deal with one state agency. You have to deal with DWLF and DMV. You already sound like you have issues with the deal, I would steer clear. Just my .02 BTW, if you do this, get your best tennis shoes on, because you will have to jump through many hoops.

All of the expenses mentioned are legitimate, but don't forget liability insurance that the farmers carry. That can't be cheap. Also, you may have to do like I did, go in with three other people. It isn't perfect, but we make it work (except for one of the guys that won't ever wear a face mask, you know who you are).

I think what he is referring to is something that is extremely aggrivating and seems like an issue that is easily rectified. I believe he is referring to when you look at the classifieds and have to scroll through pages of complete inventories from businesses. It's off of Hwy 11. Coming from Slidell, immediately before you get to Lake P, take a left. Follow that road all the way around and you will run right into Dockside. Ask for Capt. Kris. He's very knowledgeable and does charters for a very reasonable price. You won't be disappointed.

A comment titled: Thank You in response to a report titled: Want ads

Andy, Thank you for your reply and I stand corrected. I am glad they are paying advertisement fees. I still would like to see some type of sticky or somewhere the merchants can post their inventory if ever I want to look for a particular item. I just don't think clogging up the classified section is the place for them to put their entire inventory. Again, thanks for the reply.

A comment titled: Address the Issue in response to a report titled: Want ads

Will someone at Louisiana Sportsman please comment on this situation? In my opinion it is out of hand. It takes scolling through at least one page if not more to get through the car and gun dealers that I'm pretty sure don't pay any advertisement fees. While you're at it, add Louques Firearms to the list. Mods, I know you read each post, please address. Thank you.

A comment titled: Trained Dog in response to a report titled: Awesome First Split

I am sorry if I mislead anyone, I didn't train my dog. He was trained by Kelly Scott from Prairieville. He is an excellent trainer. I was just stressing the points that it is awesome to watch a trained dog work and your wonton waste goes way down. I know that the 'Experts' say that ducks eat so much lead shot that they were dying at alarming rates and had to go to steel to stop the madness, but in my humble opinion and experience, I have lost way more ducks since steel shot was mandated than I did when lead shot was legal.
