Ryan-15.......based on a book published by the U.S. Department of Interior in 1964 titled 'Waterfowl Tomorrow', the history of corn and ducks and the Mississippi Flyway is going on 100 years since its' inception of providing supplemental feeding. Bottomland habitat cleared for agriculture gave no incentive for waterfowl to stay, so it didn't take long for hunters to figure out such. Corn was used to hold the birds that would otherwise fly south so, we will see if this is true this season. Hopefully, you will be going to a Flyway Federation meeting sometime this month or next, but in the meantime, if you want to learn more about the history dealing with waterfowl migration, buy a 'Waterfowl Tomorrow' book online. Amazon and ebay both have used ones for less than $20 w/ free shipping. A chapter titled 'The Cornfielders' is a great perspective on the past AND the future....
